I have no idea if this is really true, but if so, it is very scary. The woman bought some flip-flops from Wal-Mart, wore them a few times, and now has bad chemical burns on her feet from them.

Working in the shoe industry, I have come across some individuals that are ultra-sensitive to any type of man made material. Some are so severe that they are even allergic to natural dyed products. Burning, itching, rashes, etc. These people have had to resort to wearing cotton socks with everything!

Oh my lanta!!!

And I love how Wal Mart told her to call China to complain.

I got rear ended by a Wal Mart truck(I was at a red light) last week. Sounds like dealing with their ins co is going to be fun....

That is really horrible. She must have been in so much pain. I wonder what the ultimate outcome will be.

How does she know that it was a chemical burn, and not an allergic reaction? I didn't read the whole thing, but I didn't see her mention anything anywhere about going to a doctor. I have an allergy to certain types of metal, and get a similar skin reaction from certain jewelry. I guess I don't see why Wal-Mart or the flip-flop company should be responsible for her allergies, and a chemical burn seems a little hard to believe to me, but I'm certainly not an expert. In those pictures it also looks like she had really been picking at the area, and that is probably why it appeared to get so much worse. Yuck. Leave it alone, or see a doctor for some steroid cream, and it probably would've cleared up in no time.

She did go to the doctor and he told her it was from the shoes. It's a burn not a rash. A rash would have spread beyond the straps of the shoes.

She could have been sensitive as Green1 mentioned but I think it would have been good customer service on Wal Marts part to take care of her.

There is something about her story that just not ring true to me.

For one thing ... she apparently lives in my area by virtue of her holding an Orlando Sentinel newspaper to verify her date. If
WFTV had heard of this story and verified it, it would have been all over "If it bleeds, it leads Eyewitness news"! This is EXACTLY their kind of story.

I agree with a previous poster that it could be contact dermatitis and she either kept wearing the sandals or picked at the wound constantly (or possibly put something on it that made it worse). In any case, as much as I sympathize with the pain she was in, I'm not sure the flip-flops were totally to blame.
