We are thinking of heading to the Atlantis hotel in the Bahamas next June. Anyone been there? Did you like it? What did you do when you were there that you really enjoyed?
I have two kids ages 11 and 8. They are SO excited about the water park.
We are coming from California, so I'm used to traveling to Hawaii. I've been told that the Caribbean direction is much different from the Islands that I'm used to. We love the water and the sun and surf and are just looking to get away. There will probably be 5 or so families all going on the trip and we are all just looking to get all the info that we can.
I did look up a previous thread on the subject and Gracie was planning a trip. If you read this Gracie what is your review???!!! Hope your trip was a good one for you.
Thanks everyone for any input!

We've been a couple of times nad have taken the boys as well. They LOVED it. I'm sure the other thread has pretty specific stuff, hopefully more up to date since I've been there.
Don't forget to bring your money though . . . $$$$$$.
keep your peepers open - we saw Willie Nelson, Cameron Diaz, and the Margaritavillee guy there.

Jimmy Buffet. I remembered the name as soon as I hit submit.
I swear, my memory lately is terrible! Is that a menopause thing??? Good grief.

We loved Atlantis by day. We loved the pools, the water slides, the bazaar in downtown, the jet skis, the massage by the pool, etc. We did it all. We had our then-13 year old DD with us.
At night there is absolutely nothing to do but gamble or sit in a lounge and drink. They have a movie theater that they show the same movie for a week. So if you've seen it once that's it. Same with their comedy shows. They have a family-friendly comedy show early and an adult version (same comedian) later on. But this is the same guy for a week. So again, if you've been to the show once, it's been there and done that.
They have a "club" thing for teens in the evening and DD went a couple nights but she wasn't really comfortable being by herself and not really into striking up conversations with other kids. So it really came down to DH wanting to gamble, DD not being allowed in the casino and so he would be by himself gambling or DD would be by herself in the room.
It's just not a balanced place for families. If DD had a friend with her or another sibling, that might have been different since she would have had someone to hang with and DH and I could have hung together.
And the food is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

and then my travel agent talked us into a wonderful Princess cruise. We have 4 kids 6-20 and we all had a FABULOUS time! I would love to go on one with a group, but even with just us it as the best vacation we've ever had. So maybe think twice? :)

You can also take a cruise with a stop over to Atlantis!!!! Friends did that and loved it. Buy tickets to visit Atlantis before you get off the cruise ship or they will be sold out, they (Atlantis) limits the number of cruise visitors each day! )
By the way, my sister went to Hawaii and Atlantis and said she Atlantis was much prettier! Who knew! Good luck, Debralynn :)
