My DBF and I booked Flights and made reservations to Tortola for March 2008. Has anyone been there? Shaun was there in the mid 80's. I've never been.
I was just interested in places to check out etc, while we are there.
Thanks Ahead,
Beth

Hi,
My husband and I and two other couples rented boats in Tortola two times. We had a great time. Cane Garden Bay had a very nice beach and interesting bars. Many of the other BVI are very close by and you can take a ferry to the other islands. You should not miss the Baths at Virgin Gorda. The islands are very hilly and driving is crazy! Food is expensive both in restaurants and stores. Booze is cheap in the stores. Goats, chickens, cows and other animals run freely on the islands. The people are very friendly and I always felt safe.
If you will be cooking I would suggest you bring some of your food. I am not sure about meat ( if it is allowed in BVI). We took things like coffee, mayo, tuna, and crystal light. I remember buying a bottle of vodka for $2.00 and paying $ 5.75 of a small bottle of cranberry juice.
Enjoy your trip

Spent some time in Tortola about 10 years ago. What a beautiful place. Kalnajane has provided great information, I don't recall any specific names to pass on to you.
Tortolla is gorgeous - you must get up to the mountains and look down at the water below. The cruise ships will look like toys. It really does look like this:

I had to laugh to see a Deloitte and Touche in the town. DH's DB and SIL were employed by that firm at the time. We came home and told them they could have a vacation home in Tortola and write it off!:D
Beth, if you see our buddy JoeEd, tell him we said HI and thanks again for the soursop! ;)
HAVE A GREAT TIME!
Found great pictures and information about the island on this site:
