This incident, which took place in NYC, east side, I think, took place maybe 20 or 25 years ago. An actress, someone of note, killed a man with a flower pot that fell from her window sill. This was referred to in a crime novel I'm reading. I remember it vividly, but I can't remember who it was and it's driving me nuts. I did a google search with no luck.
Anyone else old enough to remember the incident and who it was?

I couldn't find any real life stories, but did see this movie reference for Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hush%E2%80%A6_Hush,_Sweet_Charlotte).
That evening, Charlotte awakens. She hears talk and laughter coming from the patio below as she walks out on the terrace. It is Miriam and Dr. Bayliss drinking cocktails and discussing with satisfaction how they have faked his death by giving Charlotte a gun loaded with blanks, driven Charlotte insane and will get her money when Miriam has her committed. Charlotte is suddenly filled with wrath and shoves a large, heavy flower pot from the edge of the balcony. They look up and scream just before it strikes and kills them.
Other than that, I came up empty too!

It's good to know that the old mind isn't gone yet because it came to me in the car just a while ago coming back from the supermarket. The novel version threw me because what they said was a flowerpot was actually a dumbell that killed a tourist from Detroit that was used to weigh down a blowing curtain. The actress was Arlene Francis ("whoooooooooooo???," they ask?) who was more of a Bway actress, but probably mostly known as NY celebrity and a panelist on "What's My Line?" She was also married to Martin Gabel. (Whoooooo, they ask???)
I then remembered that Francis had also been in a rain-caused car accident that killed the driver of the car she collided with and that a friend of mine, a truly hysterical fellow, who apprenticed with her in summer stock told me that when he said his morning prayers, he always added "Please don't let Arlene Francis kill anyone today." ;)

I think you're thinking of Wile E. Coyote dropping a flowerpot on the Roadrunner's head.

Boy, those rich folks. They could afford to hire some guy from Detroit just to weigh down a curtain? ;)
OTOH, the comment from your friend made me laugh so hard the woman in the next office asked me if I was okay. :p

LOL, that's what I get for sticking that tourist from Detroit in at the last minute and not proofing! Good catch!
There is a new series, a serial like "24", called "Kill Point" on Spike...you know, the cable channel for us rugged types. The hostage negotiator is played by Donnie Wahlberg and his character is obsessed with such errors. Most times any cop talks to him, he goes blanks and stares, then says "You know you just....." and tells them to go away because he's so disgusted with them. Good gimmick, but I wouldn't want to know him.

You laugh, but there is a direct take off on "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" called Run Run Sweet Roadrunner (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3404010865308426658). Sadly, there is no flowerpot. And sadder still, I watched it to make sure.

Hey! I'm seriously thinking about going to the Saturday Morning Cartoon Capers at the Ohio Theatre tomorrow morning to watch them on the big screen! ;) :D www..capa.com/columbus
