Is anyone interested in starting a supper club in the Burlington, Vermont area? I was in one in Austin, Texas that was very successful and a lot of fun. I'd love to get one going here.

Hello - I live in Charlotte and would love details on the club if you have started one - if not, I would be happy to be part of the start up team.

It seems like we have enough people now to get going. Do you want to plan our first meeting? Usually you do it in a resturant first so we can get to know each other and plan our first real cooking dinner. Shall we meet in Burlington? How about at NECI? (It seems appropriate to meet at the culinary institute's resturant). Let me know what everyone schedule is like and let's pick a date.

Let's go! I think NECI is a great choice...I was actually thinking along those lines already. For what it's worth, weekday evenings are a little tricky for me (long work days), but once we have some specific dates, it would be easier to pick. Maybe we should get together for lunch some Saturday or Sunday? What are otehr people's schedules like?

Weekends seem the best option for most. How does Saturday March 10 at noon sound at NECI?

Jennifer is the only who has confirmed that March 10th works. Let me know if this is good for the rest of you and I will make a reservation for us.

Thanks, Dana

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply: if you'll let me join after the 19th that would be great, but don't worry if it's a problem.

Hi Dana - Just wondering how many you have confirmed for Saturday, March 10?

Hi Dana........hopefully you will check here since I can't get you to see my email replies, but the 31st is so far a clear day for us!
Is anyone else having a difficult time replying to Dana's e-mails? What server do you use?

I sent everyone and email, but just in case you are having a hard time getting my emails, I am reposting here. I am just waiting to hear back from Cathy, Tammy and Angel to see if March 31st at noon works and then I will make a reservation at NECI and send out a confirmation email to all of you.
Looking forward to getting together.

Sorry I have been slow in getting back to everyone, but I was just waiting as long as I could to hopefully hear from all of you. If we meet this Saturday, we will be missing at least 2 people, possibly 3, and there are only 7 of us total. Do you want to try one more time to find a Saturday or Sunday when we can all meet?

Hey Dana!
If you could let me know the verdict asap, since my kids have events all day long and carpooling for them may or may not be an issue depending on whether or not I am away in the middle of the day or not!
Thanks!

Just to recap what we decided at lunch on Saturday:

First Cooking Meal will be May 13 at 5:00pm at Dana’s House (really Crystal’s house)
Directions to follow in a separate email
Menu:

Tammy – Split Pea Dip and Asian Peanut Dip
Crystal – Salad (I volunteered you for that)

Dana – Savory Onion Tart

Jennifer – Caramelized Onion Lasagna with Gorgonzola sauce

Cindy – Strawberry and Cream Cake

Everyone will bring all ingredients necessary to prepare their dish as well as chopping knifes, cutting boards, etc…As the host’s house may not have enough for everyone to be using at the same time. But we will assume Host has sauté pots, pans, roasting dishes, lasagna dishes, etc…

Cynthia D, Aimee and Cathy – If you are planning to come (which we hope you are), we still need someone to provide beverages and bread. Please let me know if you would be interested in making/bringing either of these. If none of you are coming then I will make sure that we have both.

At the May 13 dinner we will set the dates for the next 4-6 months.

It was great to meet everyone at lunch the other day. Sorry everyone couldn’t be there. Looking forward to cooking together in May.

Get ready to celebrate the Chinese New Year - that is the theme of our next gathering! There is a menu in the Jan/Feb 2002 issue on p. 80 called "New Year's Anew" - that is our inspiration. Our gathering is set for January 5, so wear your best kimono and select your dish!

The menu in Cl is as follows:
Chicken-Ginseng Soup
Vegetarian Delight - Dana
Orange-Ginger Shrimp Skewers - Jen
New Year's Dumpling Delight
Lion's Head Meatballs in Spicy Coconut Sauce - Susan
Longevity Noodles - Tammy
Steamed Fish with Ginger Wine Sauce
New Years Rice Cakes

I think we tentatively set this up at Jen's house, but if someone else would like to host it, go ahead!

Hope to see you all ringing in the Chinese New Year on January 5!

Hey all-

Some of you missed a great meal - we may have been a small group but we were **** good cooks (I highly recommend the meatballs from that menu - and not just because I made them). Hope the rest of you are feeling better or have recovered from your weekend adventures……..

Although there weren't many of us, we took it upon ourselves to make a plan for next time (and choose a next time that works for us…), so here's the pertinent info:

Date: February 23rd
Location: Ann's House (directions will follow separately)

Menu: A Hearty Winter Buffet inspired by the menu found in the same issue we just used (Jan/Feb 2002, Inspired Vegetarian, p 128) including, but not limited to the following:

Lemon Soy Aioli with vegetables
Beet & Goat Cheese Crostini - prepared by DANA
Wild Mushroom - Barley "Risotto" with Sage - prepared by ANN
Smothered Beans with Leeks & Collard Greens
Wine-Glazed Winter Vegetables - prepared by TAMMY
Watercress Salad with Fennel & Citrus
Apple-Cranberry Walnut Crisp - prepared by JEN

So - plenty of choices left, or choose something else from your repertoire that fits in with our theme (soup, bread, a vegetable side dish, or another dessert - never say "NO" to dessert is my motto).

Hope the date works for people - let us know!

Jen

Hey all-
When we were canceling the last dinner (due to that nasty snowstorm), Tammy and I discussed using the Academy Awards menu in the newest issue (which I have to admit that I have not read yet) - and having the dinner on the night of the Academy Awards. Which is March 23rd. (Which, I might add, will be in the beginning rounds of March Madness…so I might be a little distracted…or we could use NCAA basketball as our theme………OK, OK, just kidding).

Anyway, I promised to send an email out and am just now getting around to doing so (thankfully, the Academy Awards are later in March), and I've managed to lose Cathy's email address - so will one of you please forward this to her (sorry, Cathy!). What do you all think?

The menu is as follows:
Well, look at that - there IS a basketball menu!!! However, upon skimming this article, I think that the Oscar menu is better (p. 136, March 2003)
Pickled Shrimp
Mushroom Ravioli w/ Lemon-Caper Mayonnaise
Cold Poached Salmon w/ Fennel-Pepper Relish
Asparagus w/ Black Pepper, Bacon, and Goat Cheese Sauce
Citrus Couscous Salad
Raspberry-Almond Torte w/ Chocolate Ganache
What do you all think? Date? Theme? Location - Ann, are you still up for hosting?

Also, did I miss anyone besides Cathy - or are we just smaller again?

Comments, please!

Jen
