I'm going in 2 hours to get my first tattoo. Yay! I've been wanting to do it for years and my only worry is the pain. I hope I'm not too much of a wuss :o

Good for you! I didn't find either of mine painful but I think that may depend on where you stick it and your pain level.
What are you getting?

Okay - you can't tell us you're getting a tattoo and not tell us where or of what!!! Fess up....

Well kudos to you, I'm too much of a wuss to try and get one! I haev zero pain tolerance! I would like to get one on my foot someday. Please tell us more info on yours. Is there a special meaning behind your picture? Please share. Thanks, Wuss (Debralynn) :)

I have two - one on my lower back (I found out this weekend what it's referred as, when placed there  ) and one on the inside of my right ankle. Neither hurt too badly, and I don't have an incredibly high tolerance of pain. I'm planning out a third as we speak......
You'll do fine, Suzy! Hope we get to see what/where it is! :D

I have to discourage getting a tattoo on the foot. I have two, and tons of people tried to talk me out of it. I didn't care, I wanted them. And sure enough, all those people were right. Unless you can go barefoot for two weeks after you get it, so the color can set, you will lose the color in the tattoo almost right away. The rubbing against your shoes/socks during the healing process just fades the color like you wouldn't believe. I have a tat around my ankle that I got in 1995 that has never been touched up and the colors are still as vibrant as the day I got it. The two on my foot I got in 2004, one has been touched up once already, and they are both very faded. The one that has never been touched up has virtually no color left at all. :(
I too am a wuss when it comes to pain, and getting a tattoo, IMO, hurts like hell. :o

Tramp Stamp? It doesn't count if you ride your own! ;) :D
I've got one too.

Eva, a large part of that is probably because of where yours are--ankles and feet are bony, not much padding (feet especially) so tattoos are going to hurt much more there. I have one on my shoulderblade, which hurt a bit but not much, and one on my hip, which didn't hurt at all (LOTS more padding!) :D
I agree, what are you getting and where???

Suzy -
I am so proud of you, my birthday buddy! I can't wait for you to tell us all about it. I have often thought I'd like a tattoo, but referring to myself as a wuss when it comes to pain is an enormous understatement.

OK, less than an hour to go.
DH and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary tomorrow. At first I wanted his name written in a pretty caligraphy-type script on my ring finger (as I'm too chunky to wear my wedding ring anymore :( :o ). When I met with the tattoo guy he said those ones on your fingers/hands wear off after only a few years and to make it that small I would be better off just doing DH's initials.
So, I chucked that idea and instead I'm getting both his name, my name and our wedding date written around my left wrist in Elvish. I know, totally geeky, and I spent HOURS researching tolkein language websites. Some people are really into that!!! I found translations for our names, but didn't want to go overboard and figured nobody would be able to read it anyway ;)
I have it saved in a Word document and my DS helped me download the elvish fonts so I'm not sure I could post it here. I'll email it to whomever is interested.
The font I'm getting is the one on this website: http://www.thehutt.de/tolkien/fonts.html
about the 22nd one down called "Tengwar Annatar"
but I also loved the one called "Hobbiton brushed"

Good point. I also have one on my hip that hurt a lot less than thes on my feet/ankles. Quite a bit more padding helps. :D

I am officially inked.
I would describe it as being scratched by a cat for 10 minutes straight. Not pleasant, but not as bad as I thought it would be, so I guess I didn't wuss out after all!
Anyway, if I can get a picture I'll post later :)

I got a "celtic" tattoo on my inner right wrist for my 40th birthday 3 years ago. Yeah, it hurt (DH says he's finally got the feeling back in his hand :D ). I was told by a friend who has many that tattooing is addictive; he's right cause now I want another one.
I found out this weekend what it's referred as, when placed there
I was thinking about getting a tattoo on my lower back, that is until I heard DH refer to one as "a$$ horns" So much for that idea. :o
