View Full Version : WDC area club needs new members!
We have been meeting for about six months now and would like to find a few new members to join us. Right now we have six people. We generally do a Sunday afternoon dinner (around 2pm). The hostess picks the menu and makes the entree and we all bring sides, appetizers and dessert. It's been a lot of fun trying new dishes and getting to know each other.
We are all in the Washington metro area - from Alexandria, the district and Wheaton.
Anyone interested, pls respond to this post.
Thanks!
Louise

I believe that both the NOVA and NOVA/DC groups are still accepting new members. The main difference is meeting times. Of course, there is no reason you can't belong to both. The NOVA group generally meets weeknights and the NOVA/DC group Sunday afternoons.
I will send an email to anyone who wants info. Please make sure you make your email address available in your profile. You can always email me at chamerli@gmu.edu.

I am relocating to DC in mid-September and would love to join your group. I am currently in a Supper Club in Dallas and we have a great time. It's such a good way to meet new people too. Please send me all the details and I'll put your next dinner on my calendar.

So glad to see new faces that are interested. Although there were two groups, the DC/Nova group has dissipated and the NOVA group is really full right now (we have 17 members).
I would like to help start a new DC group, as I don't think there currently is one. Why don't we plan on meeting somewhere in a couple of months (October, maybe)and hope that we can find another few people who are interested.
I will save your names and email addresses and we can stay in touch. Please feel free to email me anytime.

How many people do you think would make sense? I probably have about 3 friends that would definately be interested as well. Once we get a good number of people with interest perhaps we should meet somewhere for coffee/drinks/dinner etc and come up with a gameplan. What do you think?
amcleod
08-14-2001, 12:51 PM
Hmmm....the number of people is a good question. Most likely, not every member will make every meeting, but we have to be prepared for the event that everyone did.
I would think 10 or so would work best, but I am open to anything.
I think that meeting for coffee/drinks/dinner/whatever would be a great start. Maybe after Labor Day to maximize attendance?
cheers!

My boyfriend & I would be interested in developing a NOVA group of young people (we are around 25 years) who enjoy cooking a variety of ethnic cuisines (Asian, European & South/Central American). We are located in Herndon & are willing to lead coordinating the group activities & hosting regularly in our home.
We invite current participants in other DC area groups & any lurkers out there to contact me (alana@vespers.net) with your interest.
Since this is new, we will arrange for an initial meeting in a local restaurant sometime in September when there is adequate interest.
Good eats all!

Hi there. Wow there has been a lot of interest!
I wanted to post that some of us got a new DC group together, and we are at what we feel is a good number of people, so we are not accepting any more members at this point (even though we haven't met yet). I believe most people who posted on here got an email from me or Marisa70 or Susan PC with the details of our meeting in the past few days or last week.
If you didn't get the email, we truly apologize! I hope you can understand that none of us wants to cook for 20+ people :) We also wanted you to know that we "closed off" our group so you won't expect to receive details about the club.
I certainly don't mean to sound rude and definitely don't want to disappoint anyone! I am sure with the September issue of CL there will be a lot more interested parties.
happy cooking!
ann
p.s. please email me at amcleod@gwsae.org with any gripes, questions, or what have you :p

If you didn't make it into the "first" group, perhaps you could start up another thread and call it WDC Club #2, then WDC Club #3 and so on -- this way, people won't be reading through old information.
I'm sure there will be enough people to start up a second group in the next couple of days -- as people finish looking through their current issue of CL, they'll be stopping by the message boards looking for a club to join.
Just an idea,
Sherri :D

Wow! Looks like we've all been reading our magazines this week and getting inspired! I, too, would be interested in helping to set up another club in the metro area. I'm in Montgomery County. I like the idea of Sunday afternoons as the apparently now-defunct DC club had, but am open to other possibilities as well.

hi lindsay
i arrived here only a month ago from the San Francisco Bay Area. i've had a long standing interest in low fat/fat free cooking and am delighted by this chance to get a club going. you may have already heard back from Emily and David Gee, but if not, here is their message to me. i've replied that i'm game for the first meeting. i think if you write to them directly, it might be the fastest way. they seem organized and i've taken the liberty of referring everyone to them, as we seem to be certain of an initial meeting through them.
hope to see you there!
regards
Janice

This is the message:
Hi Janice:
My wife, Emily, and I are forming a new supper club in Northern Virginia. We live in Reston and are hoping to find a group of interested people in the NoVA area or DC. Our goal is to explore gourmet low-fat/fat free dishes. You're welcome to participate in our first meeting which we are organizing for the second or third weekend in Sepetmber. E-mail us back if you have any interest.

I'm a member of a Cooking Light Supper Club that is one year old now. We have room for 2 or 3 new members (currently have 5 active members) who live in Maryland, preferably in Montgomery County or northern Prince George's County. Our get-togethers are once/month on Sundays, early evenings; spouses/SOs do not participate. If you are interested in joining us, please contact me at: daiziesforme@yahoo.com
Thanks!
Recently moved to the DC area (Arlington) and would love to participate in a supper club! Please let me know if there is availability in existing groups or if anyone is interested in starting one with me. Prefer groups with a veggie, non-red meat focus.
Looking forward to good food, great conversation, and new acquaintances!

Hi all,
I am wondering what is going on with the formation of new clubs in the area. As I mentioned on another thread my group is full but I continue to receive inquiries and have kept a list of names of interested people.
I know that at least one small group has formed, but if anyone is still interested in forming a group, I would be happy to help in getting it started.
Please feel free to post to this thread or email me privately (chamerli@gmu.edu) and tell me what clubs have been formed and whether anyone is still looking for a group.
Cheers,
Catharine
