We just bought a house with stained toilet bowls, one had a rusty ring and an older one had dark grayish-bluish stains. The guy at the hardware store recommended Ring-B-Gone and it completely removed the stains in about 2 minutes. It must be potent stuff, there were warnings on the bottle to wear goggles and use rubber gloves, not to leave it on the stains for more than a minute or two, then repeat if needed. For people with the kind of water that leaves stains no matter what, this could be the answer. The directions say not to use it on colored toilets.

I'm glad it worked and you are still breathing to talk about it.;) Must be some strong stuff which is needed for really difficult stains. Good job!

Did you notice, if it was safe for septic tanks?

Does it work on showers and sinks? or just toilets?

I've had stubborn toliet bowl stains too. I found the pumice stone worked very very well, fairly quickly, with no fumes.

Ring-B-Gone label says it contains ammonium biflouride. I noticed NO fumes at all. Apparently it can burn your skin though, therefore the rubber gloves. All it says to use it for is toilet bowl stains, and says not to let it come in contact with glass. I have used pumice sticks before, but thought they might be a little scratchy on the porcelain surface. It does say not to use it for regular household cleaning, but only occasionally for maintenance. Nothing was said about septic tanks, but you could either ask at the hardware store or maybe google for a website of the manufacturer.

Ditto. It's great on toilets and enameled tubs. :)
