It seems like most of the comforters I buy for our king size bed don't come down too far on the sides, if at all. I hate that. I want it to come down the left/right sides to cover the side of the mattress so you then just see the wood part (sleigh bed style). Anyone know a good source for larger King size comforters? I think Pottery Barn are among the largest I've bought so far, but so expensive...

I know what you mean!

I bought a Duvet from Target and it comes down on the sides very nicely. The quilt inside is quite a bit smaller, but it looks fine if I smooth it out nicely.

Only problem is that the smaller comforter really slides around inside. I finally got around to buying some comforter clips to hold it in place and I'm anxious to try them out. In fact, I think I'll go put them in place now.

Hope you are able to find what you're looking for, but maybe a Duvet would be the answer if you can't?

Some of the Lands End comforters have an "oversized" choice in Queen and King that are a few inches bigger in each direction. I have seen a wide variation in specifications (I have been shopping for a new king comforter also), so you have to know what dimensions you want and look for something that fits that.

Second the Land's End recommendation. Also, I think California King is a larger size. You might look for that as well. Or anything designed for "Pillow top" mattresses as they tend to be taller mattresses.

The only reason I have stayed away from duvet covers is the reason you just mentioned ... I hate the way the comforters slide around inside. I haven't heard of/seen comforter clips though - would be interested in hearing how they work out.

Thanks for the Lands End reco - will check them out.

Well, they are in place, so now we'll have to see if they stay that way..........

Man, struggling with a king-sized comforter is quite a workout! Making beds is not my favorite activity anyway, but pulling and tugging all that heavy bedding - sheesh!

My DH gets very frustrated if he has to put the comforter cover on. He wants us to find some VERY long zippers (like for a sleeping bag) so that more than one end of the cover opens up. I think it would work just as well with buttons, though, like are along the bottom. That's not really high up on my list of things to do, but maybe one of these days I will get around to it.

I had the same problem, and just lived with it.

But last year, I bought new bedding and unknowingly ended up buying one something that covered the sides. It was a quilt - Linens N Things brand. Not sure if it applies to all of their comforters, but you might want to take a look.

I have comforter clips and really like them! As far as getting the comforter inside, I've found that if I lie the comforter on the bed then the cover on top but inside out (and this is when I put the top clips on) then reach up inside the cover and grab the top corners of the cover and comforter and flip the cover right side out and over the comforter then all I need to do is wiggle it down the comforter, put the bottom clips on and close it up. It may work better on a king size to have two of you to grab the corners.

Have an over-sized king-size duvet and no clips to attach it to the cover and have never had a problem with it sliding down or around or anywhere else. It just barely comes down to cover the sides of the mattress but then our mattress is fairly thick. The only other suggestion would be to sew together 2 California Twins and then make a duvet cover.

Just a mini update in case anyone else had the same quilt-not-big-enough-although-says-King-size problem. I got a King size quilt from Target (their brand) recently as a gift, and surprisingly enough, it totally covers the left and right sides.
