Is anyone interested in starting a supper club in Vancouver? I am new to the area and would love to meet other people who love to cook and have fun! Respond if you are interested.

Hi,

I may be interested now that my kids are getting a little bigger.

I know there has been a few posts trying to get something going in Vancouver but nothing every materializes.

I live in Burnaby (the metrotown area).

Count me in. I'm new-ish to the area too (8 months) and I'd love to meet new people with at least one similar interest. I can help out with any kind of organizational work that is needed to get this thing flying too.

I live close to downtown.

Well, it looks like there is some interest!

Would you be interested in including SO?

I think it sounds fun!!

I think SO's would be fine. If there aren't that many people, we may even "need" them.

An SO is a significant other, husband boyfirend.

If we could get one or two more it would be good.

You know the old expression the more the merrier.

Just a point of interest,

Why do you use/like cooking light?

Firstly, I really enjoy the format of the magazine, I was a reader far before I was a cooker.

We also have just shifted to eating more fruits and vegetables and more healthy food, cooking light has been great to provide us with great recipes and new inspirations.

Great question...it may do well in the "general food" section too. But I'll answer it here.

First, I should say that CL is my most used cooking magazine, but I don't always use it "to the letter", that is sometimes I'll use the full flavour cheese or what have you and not the half fat/no fat. BUT, if I was in a cooking club, I wouldn't do such things, so don't start thinking of blackballing me http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I didn't become a subscriber of cooking light until about 2 years ago, I didn't start using it until about 1 1/2 years ago...I made a decision that if I was going to get so many cooking magazines I had to use at least one recipe a month from each or cancel my subscription. I found that CL has helped me keep this "vow" the easiest, and it's no longer something I make myself do, but something I look forward to doing.

In a dream world, I would use this magazine to lose weight and become more fit/healthy, but it takes time to "retrain" yourself as to what a "serving" is (sometimes "Serves 4 serves 2 or 3 in my house). This is one of my goals though.

Final thought, I find I enjoy using the magazine more since I "found" this board in January. I like participating in the reviews of recipes.

This is all off the top of my head...given a couple of hours, I'm sure I could come up with some more.

Hi Everyone!

Sorry, I have not responded to your replies. I am away right now on the East Coast visiting family and friends. I will be away for at least another month. However, if you want to go ahead and meet and get things started - I think that would be a great idea. Keep me posted.

Have Fun!

well,

it looks like there is definitely enthusiasm here in beautiful BC for a supper club. I dont know whether the beginning of the summer with everyone starting holidays is a fair time to get the ball rolling?

I guess first we must figure out who is still interested in joining and then decide on a format. I know for myself I would like to have something for DH and I to do once a month that is our own without the kids. I think we've been out together twice in the last year. I unfortunately don't have the time to organize, I am lucky if I get time to visit the BB 15 minutes every other day. Some weeks are better then others.

I would love to see something going here..

Terri
