At the top of each forum is the announcement of the changes that have been made to the bulletin boards to help speed up and improve download.

Especially to those of you who have had problems in the past, please provide feedback as to whether or not you are seeing any changes or improvements.

Thanks!

Maelynn - I have to thank you guys for being so receptive to us users http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Your effort has not gone unnoticed.

I am pretty happy with most of the changes as I have observed them, however I have noticed one thing that seems inconvenient to me.

When I open a thread that has been divided into pages, I find it strange that it opens to PAGE 1, rather than page 2 or 3 where all of the new postings are. Usually I'm trying to keep up with what's new on a thread, rather than starting from the beginning.

Is this just me being picky? Or does it make sense for more people than just me?

Is it possible to fix?

lorilei - great point. You aren't being picky and I can reverse the order pretty easily.

This will need some thinking. If you think of reading the posts in reverse order, if the thread has 2 pages worth of posts and you enter viewing the most recent posts, then the original post is at the end of page 2. So in order to find out what the thread is about - if the subject line isn't descriptive enough - is to read the original post at the end.

I've also set the number of posts per page at 35 - and most threads fall under that limit.

Hmmmmmmm. Comments on this anyone?

Thanks.

Maelynn

Kim, I love your jalopeno suggestion!

The board seems to load quite a bit faster on my computer with these changes. The only problem I've noticed is that the Cheese 101 thread was cut off for me. (I am using a very, very low memory machine - I'm too ashamed to say how low.)

Would it be possible to reverse the order of the posts only after a thread has been looked at once? Or could you always have the first post at the top of the page -- maybe with a lightly colored background to separate it and indicate that it is the initial post?

KateH- those are good suggestions but also happen to be much more complicated to program.
At this point, the speed, and actual ABILITY to view the board is the highest priority. The way it is right now, the most recent posts are just a click away (by going to the bottom and clicking the last page number). Previously, when we had a thread of 70 messages, we would have to scroll and scroll and scroll, so now you just scroll once and click once. It's a trade-off I guess.

I'll keep watch over the next week or two and see how people are reacting, if it's too hard to use or not.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Maelynn,

I actually only just noticed that there is an option to click to page 2 in the upper left corner.

This seems handy enough. Forget my earlier suggestions. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I haven't had much of a problem but thought I'd make a suggestion for the red dot - hot about a jalopeno?
