View Full Version : Topic Search
Since I was on vacation when you enacted some of these changes, I'm still trying to get the hang of things. With this new format, I'm a little confused as to how to search a topic. The most I'm able to figure out is that I now have to press Control + F and type in the subject or keyword I want for every single page. Is that correct or is there an easier way? (I hope)
Ideally, it would be nice to be able to type in a key word like you do for the recipe search, but I'm sure that involves much too complicated mechanics.

I want to make sure I'm clear on what you're asking. Do you mean search one particular thread for a specific word? Or do you mean search one particular board (i.e. Great Food Board) for a specific word?
If you mean you want to search the "Favorite Appetizers" thread for the word "chicken" then yes, the only way to do it is to use your browser's FIND function to look for that word on the page. Did you do this another way before?
But if you mean you want to search the entire Great Food board for the word "appetizer" then you can do so by clicking the "Search" link near the top right hand side of the page. (It's little so you may need to look for it). This allows you to search a specific board for a specific word, you can search the entire text of the board or just the subject line, search by username or by date...

Am I embarrassed! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif As one of the first people to cross over from the old to the new (I was Lisa D's "eyes" when the new boards weren't showing up initially) I NEVER noticed that little "search" for the whole board. What a relief!
But, now I wonder... is it so small that people haven't noticed? Perhaps that might explain double postings by new users as well as those who seem to have no idea that the archives exist. Maybe the FAQs need a little refining (or the link simply might need to be slightly larger?) I'm just throwing out thoughts here...
Anyway. Thanks much. That sure makes life eaiser!
