I am mixing some chile powders to make my own chile blend and need a container to keep it in. Can't decide what might be best to keep it fresh and not leak the fragrance so to say.

I am making a good bit - maybe a quart or so as I had to mail order the chile, I made it worth my while. I am thinking a glass jar might be best.

What is your experience?

I store my spices/mixes in mason jars--quart, pint, half pint, there are sizes for everything.

A dozen jars costs about $8, or singles are often available at yard sales or thrift shops.

The lids are airtight.

If you have a FoodSaver, maybe a mason jar with a sealed lid?

For things like that (that may leave stains of smells in plastic) I use canning jars also. I have them handy, but I have seen single quarts at craft stores like Hobby Lobby and possibly Michael's. You can buy them in lots of 6 or `2 at most grocery stores. They are seasonal items at some stores (summer for all sizes, but the quarts show up for the holidays too since many people make and gift mixes). No reason you couldn't use a recycled jar if you have one of a good size with a mouth open enough for getting the mix in and out easily.
