I read rave review after rave review and decided to try it. Because of all the raves and the appeal of the flat rate shipping box, I ordered a box full. We have only tried 2 or 3 bags and my son hasn't liked them. I'm disappointed because the kernels pop so small (that I can live with) and about half of them don't pop.

We usually pop on the stovetop and have much beter results with both Orville and the store brand. Anything I should try differently? Is this normal with this popcorn? Should I just expect a low popping rate?

I love love love my popcorn! I have the yellow and white baby kernels and I pop on the stove in my whirly popper and have no problem with unpopped ones. Do you use oil when you pop? I use just barely enough to cover the bottom and then pop 1/3 C of kernels and it's perfect.

Did you order any of the regular size kernel popcorn (is there regular and the small, I can't remember?).

Not all kernels are small, but those are the ones I prefer. I've had trouble getting them all to pop in the microwave, but not on the stovetop. If you're only getting half to pop something's not right.

The first ones we popped were the smaller kernels --one of the ladyfinger types. The last one was a blue. The first one popped more, but smaller. The blue only half popped -- both with oil.

I bought 3 bags of Amish popcorn, two small kernals and one large. I like them all but prefer the large kernal. I cook on top of my gas stove with oil and have not had any problems with unpopped kernals. Usually have only 6-8 unpopped kernals when finished. I use 1/3 cup corn with enough oil to coat a thin layer on the bottom of the saucepan (1-2 tbsp) and consantly shake the pan as the kernals pop on a medium heat.

Weird that is happening. I was going to say maybe you got a bad bag, but all of them??

How much are you using? I also have the Whirly-Popper and use 1/2 corn to 2 tbs oil. Last batch had maybe 10 old maids. We really like the purple and the extra large yellow. Haven't tried the blue but found the ladyfinger tasty but don't really care for the tiny popped kernels.

If you're not using a whirly-popper are you preheating the oil? Heavier pots would require it, IMHO.

I'm not using a whirly pop -- I couldn't convince myself it was necessary and I can get it locally if we decide to try one. I use a large pot and enough oil to cover the bottom -- my guess would be 2-3 T, and then enough corn to cover that -- about 1/2 cup. I haven't measured either in years, but I've done the same thing with the other brands I've bought. I was wondering if I got some old corn. This blue one is much worse -- and on both batches out of this bag.

Then I'd contact the company. They seem truly concerned with customer satisfaction. A man had contacted me about my order and was very eager to set things right.

I made the medium yellow today and it was much better. I made it in a different pot -- the same one I had used on my old electric cooktop. I used a different pot the last few times (an All-Clad or a Cuisinart Multiply) because the handles don't get as hot as the heavier ones on those pots. I wonder if good pots don't make good poppers. I didn't toss the last of the blue yet, so I will have to try that in the same pot and see what happens.

Anyone tried the caramel glaze? I bought one of those also, but we haven't tried it yet.

I use Jolly Pop from the grocery store in my All-Clad pots and haven't had a problem.

Do you all measure your popcorn and oil each time you make it? :o

So I can't blame the All-Clad. That's not all bad. ;)

I just eyeball the oil, but do measure out the kernels.

Oh my gosh. I haven't made popcorn on the stove in so long I can't remember the last time. I don't know if my kids have ever even had it. They probably wouldn't like it because they've only known the microwave stuff. But now I'm jonesin' for some good old fashioned popcorn like I used to have with my Nana.

I have to go to the store. . .
