I live in Alabama, but I'm only a couple of hours from Atlanta -- would anyone be up for a 2-state klatch? Or only Atlanteans? Whaddya think?:D

Since the Houston group had so much fun, I'd be up for it. I'm not really Atlanta either, but general vicinity.

Kay,

I was just thinking that the folks in Texas and Boston get to have all the fun. I'd love it.

I too was envious of people in other cities, thinking Atlanta would never have a klatch. Good for you for starting this, Kay (and here you're not even an Atlanta resident, but we'll make you one on a temporary/honoray basis!). I'd be interested...

Now, the real test will be to see if you can get Aggie or others to fly in for the klatch. ;) No, I have no plans to be in Atlanta any time soon.

Ahem....and instead of a 2-state klatch....how about potentially adding in a third state!!!!!! I'm less than 2 hours from Atlanta (as long as it's NORTH of Atlanta and not on the south side.) Depending on the date/time, I would be interested.

I think there are several other BBers in the upstate. Maybe others will speak up as well.

CherylSo, Maybe we could meet in mid-town and eat near the aquarium? Or any other suggestions? I'm somewhat familiar with the Cumming area and some other north suburbs -- but I'd be coming from the south, myself! Any suggestions?:D

Hi jlsmt! How's Clemson?!?! Did you get to go to the CU/Fl. State game this past Monday evening??

I know the Cumming area....but I know Alpharetta better. I'm pretty good finding my way with anything that is east of I-75 and north of the I-285 loop. It would be a pretty long way to go to the south side of the loop.

Eva and Terri (and weeone) are absolutely encouraged to attend. :D

There are so many great places in Midtown and also several new places near the Aquarium. Are we talking nighttime, daytime? There was a thread awhile ago about the Dekalb Farmer's Market - they have a great cafeteria with all kinds of exotic food, but they don't serve alcohol which could be a HUGE drawback!! :D I possibly could offer up my house (I live in NE Atlanta, right by Spaghetti Junction (I-85/I-285 intersection) which is a very central location) if you don't mind a little dog hair! (I promise I would clean up before!!). Depends what everyone wants to do. I'm open.

Please don't make special plans to be near the Aquarium because of me! :o The chances we would be able to come are slim, particularly if you guys are talking soon. I'm always hopeful, but it would probably be a long shot.

Unless Terri is for sure coming, then we would HAVE to be there. ;) :D

Hi, Melman...and others! Clemson is great --- hot, but great. This humidity is quite the change from the dryness of Montana!

The north/northeast part of Atlanta would probably work best for me as well.

I PROMISE! This is not typical!!! We do have high humidity, but this extreme heat and no rain whatsoever is extremely unusual. Most years, we POSSIBLY hit a day or so that may go to high 90s....day in and day out of 100+ was horrible. I'm so ready for fall to arrive. You'll LOVE the fall weather (if it ever gets here!!!!!!!) It's been so dry, lots of leaves are already dropping. I hope you get to see some awesome color.

Depending on when it is and if I can get a good deal on a flight....I think it's a long drive....I'll want to come, but we'll just have to see. It would be really fun though!

North or NE Atlanta is fine with me, too -- it's about 3 hours, depending on the traffic, for me, but that's no biggie! I'd rather do daytime, but, if alcohol is involved, probably night would be better -- I can bunk at a friend's house in Cumming!;) Dog hair is no problem for me -- but that'd mean bringing food... I'm totally open, so y'all decide!;)

I'll offer up my house too. We have a pretty big deck that would accomodate everyone, so if it's a nice fall afternoon/evening, we could stay outdoors. DH volunteers to be the grill-meister. I'm closer to the Alpharetta area though, so I'm a little further north than cocoa'smom.

When does everyone have in mind to get together? Are we talking about the next month of so? If we're talking about October, unfortunately, the only weekend I would have totally open would be the weekend of 10/5. But, whatever the majority can do would be fine. I might be able to rearrange some things. I'd be glad to host if the dates work out or khrm's would be fine, too. She's closer to Cumming for LakeMartinGal (who started the idea). I think it would be fun for everyone that can to bring food - that's what we all have in common, after all. But again, I'm open to whatever is decided.

I'm open to what everyone decides too...it sounds like fun however we end up doing it!

As for available weekends, I'm assuming we'd want a Saturday, for the out-of-towners who need to travel. I'm open Oct. 20 and 27, and November 10 and 17 (although that's the Saturday right before Thanksgiving). After that, it gets murkier because of the start of the holiday season.

Although it's a long way off, we may even need to think about planning for January or February.

Or would you all rather do a cookie exchange? I would offer up my house if people would like to do that. I live about 5 minutes from 285 & 400 split.

I personally would prefer a Sunday afternoon.

All of those ideas sound good to me! Don't worry about being close for me -- anywhere in North Atlanta is about 3 hours from here. My grocery store is 40 minutes away, so I'm used to travelling!:p :D As far as I know, I'm good from now until Thanksgiving, though I do think the Saturday before Thanksgiving may be a little hectic for all with families visiting! I've always wanted to do a cookie exchange....

I have hosted three cookie exchanges since I moved here and I have vowed never to do it again unless I do it with foodies. I spent a ton of time working on my cookies and then people brought nobake cookies. I'd love to do a cookie exchange with all of you.

So, how does October 5th sound for everyone? I could have some cookies made by then, if anyone else is interested in an exchange... or maybe we should do that another time? What would y'all like to do?

:D :D hollysmom is right! Klatches are really fun and exciting to meet fellow "foodies". Enjoy your time together and don't worry about the time. If I had the time off from work and the $$, I would attend them all.:)

October 5th would be okay with me, but I couldn't host that day. Too much family stuff going on that weekend. A cookie exchange would also be okay, but maybe Cheryl was thinking of doing that more around the holidays? I don't know that I want that many cookies around before all the candy comes in from Halloween! :D

I could do October 5th, but I'm not much of a cookie baker! Love to eat them :D I'll bet I could stretch my repertoire, though, and come up with something foodie-worthy. Or, I could volunteer to provide drinks. cchhbb, you mentioned you could host a cookie swap - does this date work for you? If not, my house should be fine for a cookie swap or potluck or whatever everyone decides. I guess the first step would be to see how many people can meet that day or to come up with a date that the majority can attend.

I can only do Saturday or Sunday. October 5 is a Friday?

A cookie exchange sounds like a fun idea. I've never participated in one before. I would probably rather do this closer to the holidays, however.

I was thinking the cookie exchange would be around the holidays. I didn't know if people wanted to get together before then.

October 6 will not work for me. Our church has a children's event that day that we attend.

October 6th won't work for me, either. Our Dog Park is holding it's 2nd anniversary party, and I've been on the committee since the very beginning.

I'm up for a get-together on another weekend, or a cookie exchange closer to the holidays.

Home Chef

The 5th could work if I move a couple of things. I'm also up for a cookie exchange later on, closer to the holidays, but not too close.
Cookies are not my strength, but I think I could do some and if I decide to practice, my husband's co-workers win out.

Ooops, I meant October 6th (Saturday). Looks like it may not work for some. I could also do Sun Oct. 7 (would have to leave by 5:30 to take DS to baseball - DH out of town that weekend). I agree, a cookie exchange is more of a "holiday" thing. How do any of these get-together's get going? Its so hard to pick a date!! Anyway....I could meet Sat 10/6 or Sun 10/7 or later in November or next year!!

Melman
09-12-2007, 06:15 PM
I MAY be able to make an early November trip, but October is nearly impossible. Because of my really incredibly busy time between now and the beginning of December, I'm stepping away from picking a date. If you guys stumble into one I can make, I'll come down. Otherwise, I REALLY love the idea of early next year. :D I'll have a much better chance at committing to a date if it falls after Christmas.

LakeMartinGal
09-13-2007, 12:57 PM
Ok, so who knows how to do a poll? Sounds like November would be better -- I don't have the Gladiators hockey schedule, yet, but we'll be in Atlanta for some of the games -- to be determined.... I'm really free any time! ;) (I have no life... )
