Maelynn, I thought the hotel provided transporation from the Airport and also to your facility within five miles...?

I also thought that the hotel provided transportation from the airport? That certainly would be nice.

Looks great! I hope a grannie won't be a hindrance cuz I'd love to be part of it if I can work it out.
Did we misunderstand the free transportation within 5 mile radius... and the free breakfast ? Those are considerations in figuring the total costs. Hope we can get clarification. Thanks

The hotel does offer a shuttle to anywhere within 5 miles. However, with the # of people we are expecting, I just don't know how reliable that arrangement will be for everyone. Not that I am suggesting you all go out and rent cars, but it is really up to you. There will probably be one evening of "free time" for you to explore Birmingham. OR you can just stay in the hotel for the free cocktail reception and dinner at Ruth's Chris??? So you may, or may not want a car. There's also the option of taxi cabs.
At this point, I just can't promise transportation back and forth from the hotel. It's unfortunately out of my control. The hotel also doesn't offer "reserving" the shuttle for events like this. I'll work on 'em a little more though and let you know.
As far as the breakfast, it IS free.

We are planning to drive down from Indianapolis...so will have a car available for carpooling as well!
I'm sure that enough of us will drive and will be able to shuttle the flyers around if needed. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I'm very excited about this! I can't wait to taste test and check out the kitchen and drink Sex on the Beach with everyone! Yippee!

Crystal-
I live in Austin and considering this trip. Do ya'll have room for one more? When are ya'll planning to leave? Maybe we can caravan? I might also look into flight cost to cut down on my time.

Hi Everyone,
I'm planning on making the trip but don't know anyone else from Cleveland, Ohio that is going. I need a roommate for the weekend. Anyone else traveling alone who wants to share?

Diane and Kim,
We would definitely have room for another BBer! Right now it's just my husband and I that are planning on going. I'm trying to convince another friend from Austin to go, too. I checked on some airfares to Birmingham, and they were around $300, which is too much for DH and me. We thought about leaving early (very early) Thursday and driving straight through (we figured about 14 to 15 hours), then driving back all day Sunday. Just one idea.

crystal, I found $200 airfare from Houston. Have you looked into going to Houston first or separately?
You could always drive to Houston, park your car at my house and we could all go to the airport together. just a thought...I can fit 3 cars in my driveway (I live in a cul-de-sac and have a small driveway) if anyone else wants to drive to Houston and fly out.
I can also fit 3 other bodies in my car, too.

Thanks Kim! I didn't know this new BB was here. Oh, this is going to fun and I can't wait. I will be flying alone from Boston...unless anyone else from my area is going we could fly together. I am also still checking into airline tickets online. I am sure that once we get there we can all meet somewhere in the hotel so that we can plan on all going together to CL. We should all have some sort of name tag or something so that we can recognize each other. What do you think? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Oh, and Kim...keep up the good work http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

My wife is a member and has been looking forward to this trip ever since it was first mentioned. I was intrigued also, to the point of signing on as a member, and plan on joining her and attending the events with her. I hope other SO's will do the same, should be a lot of fun. By the way I teach martial arts and would be glad to hold an introductory class if there is enough interest and time and facilities permit.

martial arts sounds good to me. I know my hubby would be interested in that - if I can tear him away from the golf course!

I called the Embassy Suites for
a reservation today (the toll free
number and the direct line). They
will have the block room rate set
up on their computer so that
reservations can be made by
Friday. They also said they
would call me back and confirm
by Friday.
