My DH & I will be heading to Myrtle Beach this Monday for a week. Woooohoooo. We are celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary. We will use any excuse to go to Myrtle Beach. My DH will be doing the usual golf thing and I am looking to explore some new areas. If anyone is familiar with the area can you give me some MUST SEE ideas, shows, parks, wine tours. We have been to the Broadway on the Beach and the Barefoot Landing already. We like those areas very much, but are looking for other "must sees" that we might be missing. Thanks. Debralynn :)

If you are looking for a good mid-day eaterie, I would like to suggest the River City Cafe, on the beach at Surfside Beach, just south of Myrtle Beach.

We have never had a bad meal there. It's a cool place.

This link lists a lot of fun things to do while you are there. http://www.funbeaches.com/to_do.html

there are lots of womens specialty shops in North MB and then there is the Tangiers utlet Mall up there.

Hope that you have lots of fun!

Brookgreen Gardens is a great place to visit, the grounds are beautiful and there are sculptures scattered all around the property. There is also a boat tour of the old rice paddys.

Georgetown is about a half an hour south and they have several nice little shops and restaurants along the waterfront, and there are a couple old plantations that give tours near the town too.

Ripley's Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach is a good rainy day activity, and it has a tube you walk through where the sharks swim right over your head.

Hard Rock Park is in the middle of construction and the first roller coaster is finished. It is just of Hwy 501, where Waccamaw Pottery used to be. They are offering free "backstage tours" of the site and and they highlight what attractions are being built.

I second jmaries recommendation of the River City Cafe. Great burgers and the onion rings are huge. It's very casual, just picnic tables and the waiter brings you a big bowl of roasted peanuts in the shell, which everyone just throws on the floor when they're done. Fun place.

City Bar is on 17 business and is a nice nightspot. They offer tapas, or "little plates", and cool cocktails.

The show at the Carolina Opry features "All That", the clogging group that was in the semi-finals of last years' America's Got Talent. They are awesome.

I think next week is the Italian- Irish Festival on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. One end of the street is all the Irish booths, food and crafts, etc, with a stage featuring Irish bands and the other end of the street is all Italian food and crafts, and the stage features Italian bands. If you go, have the potato leek chowder at Pat & Mikes Restaurant booth. Delicious!!

Hope this helps, and if you have any questions, I live here, so ask away. :)

Thanks jmarie and joan for the ideas. Great ideas !!!! I am printing them now. I understand the new Hardrock Park will open in the spring. We like to visit every spring and fall. We will keep the park in mind for the spring trip. My hope is to relocate to MB within the next 3 years. How long have you been living there Joan? Any residential areas you would recommend to go to or stay away from?? Thanks/ Debralynn

Debralynn,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I actually live just north of Myrtle Beach, in Calabash NC. I lived for awhile in Myrtle Beach while our house was being built, and I work in Myrtle Beach. The area I live in is nice and quiet and has a gorgeous, non commercial beach, Sunset Beach, compared to Myrtle, but it is so close to everything there. I moved down here a little over a year ago from NH, and it is very different. Housing is less expensive, but the hurricane insurance is prohibitive. Hwy 17 divides whether you would pay hurricane insurance or not, so be sure to look into that. Being a resort area, food is extremely expensive to me, and not anywhere near as varied selection as I am used to. I don't know if you have children in school, but the school systems are rated very poorly. Football is overwhelmingly THE main focus for activities for all ages in the fall. Wages are very very low compared to the Northeast, and since it is a resort area, that is the primary source of jobs. Long hours, weekends, holidays. But the weather is awesome!!! I love my home, and the new neighborhood I live in, and I walk the beach almost every day. The people are friendly, and lots of Northerners here as well. Please PM me for more specific info.

Hi folks, Just wanted to let you know we had an excellent time in MB. Brookgreen Gardens was amazing! We took all of the tours and even went back the second day for a few more hours. Saw lots of alligators too.
Spent the day at Huntingdon Beach State Park, the water couldn't have been any warmer!!! Just beautiful.
Great lunch at River City Cafe, the Murrells Inlet location. Great burgers, and those onion rings, we had a good laugh. My husband had 2 and I had 2. LOL They were the biggest onion rings I had even seen.
Went to Ledgends and saw impersonators: Cher, Elvis, Temptations, Garth, great show! Lots of fun.
Went to Little River and had dinner on the Inter-coastal at Crab Catchers. We sat on the roof top deck at the chair rail and loved it. The food and service were exceptional.
Played golf at Ellington at Wachesaw Plantation. Good game!
Went to the Bonefish Grill for the first time. Would go back again.
Wished we stayed longer!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for all of your suggestions.
