Let's say you wiped out and bruised your leg pretty badly. Is there a difference in the injury if instead of the normal pain you feel when putting pressure on the bruise, it feels like you're being stabbed with a red-hot knife? The surface of the skin is numb, but all below feels like it's being rent in twain. Is that weird?

My mom is here today and she's been a nurse for 30+ years. Yes, that is a problem. Go see someone!

Can't say for sure what it is, we'd need to know more details. Better be safe than sorry!

Where did you fall?
Gravel imbedded maybe?
Sounds like some nerve issues and maybe a hairline fracture....
But I am not a doctor...just watch too many doc shows :p

Hope it is nothing serious and you feel better soon.
I hope it wasn't your knee! :(

Actually, it was both knees, but the right one is far more damaged. I tripped coming over the threshold at the front door, so I fell on the linoleum in the front hall. I fell into a hands and knees position, with my knees hitting just before my hands. And I'm a big girl, so my knees were quite unhappily surprised.

My left knee bruised up some, but the right one! In truth, there's not much of an actual hematoma, but the damage is all over the mid-to right-hand side of my leg, almost from knee to ankle. The landing spot is where it feels like a hot knife when I press it...and the rest of that part of the leg is numb. The weirdest thing is that when I press the landing spot, I feel a pull over to the right. This is like no injury I have ever had before. And of course, since I'm diabetic, any injury is compounded.

I'll make an appt with my doc first thing Monday, rest assured!

Susan, I fell x-c skiing once and landed on my knee injuring a nerve. I couldn't even wear pantyhose or pants due to the nerve pain. It was horrible. I worked for ortho docs for years.....I'm glad you are going in (especially since you are a diabetic). Good luck and keep us posted! Sue

You may have a compression fracture on your knee cap, though linolium is a relatively soft flooring. Were you running, or is the lino over a cement, not sub-floor?

Sadly, I was walking and tripped over the threshold. It's lino over cement. My kneecap itself doesn't really hurt...it's the area right below it. A while ago I had to kneel for just a few seconds and thought the muscle was going to rip right in two! I felt a pull from the center of the under-knee area all the way to the side of my leg. Owie!!

Hi - sorry to hear about your injury. Just wanted to mention that for the first 48 hours or so you should be icing the injury to prevent inflammation. Check with you doctor of course - but icing is usually a good idea for the first day or two after an injury. Good luck.
