Every fall/winter I struggle with shoes to wear with jeans and dress pants. In the summer I live in Birk sandals and I hate this time of year. Where I work is ultra-casual (jeans & sweatshirts permitted) but I try to dress nicer most of the time. I need casual shoes to wear with jeans & pants that I can also run the kids to daycare, PreK etc before going to work.
Can I wear these shoes (in black) with these pants?

And what about these boots with this jumper?

And finally, I've had these Nine West boots for year and love them (they need a good polishing), they are so comfortable but can I get away with the square toe?

I'm no fashionista, but I would say yes to the first two.
As for the squared toe, I say wear what you like. As far as I know, the squared toe isn't "in" right now, but I prefer it over the pointy shoes myself and I tend to wear what I like rather than worry about what's "in". After all, it will only be another year or two before all the pointy toes are totally out and square will be back in.
As much as I prefer warmer weather, I'm so looking forward to leaving summer clothes behind - I love fall/winter clothing!

I like your selections. I do think the jumper would look better with a chunky cardigan to match the style of the boot.
I also wouldn't pair the bottom boots with anything too feminine looking. I think those boots need an outfit with a lot of structure. I wish I had a pair of boots like that. I'm getting tired of everything being so pointy toed.

Good point - I would agree.

Anything specific, ie. pictures?
I was planning on wearing it with a turtleneck, thoughts?
I've been wearing the square toed black boots under my black & grey dress pants because I haven't owned any other shoes to wear with dress pants. :o

I was in Steinmart on Friday and saw quite a few shoes that had square toes. That style could be on the way back in again.

I went shoe shopping last week ( DSW had double reward points! :D ) and there were lots of square toes...so I think they're back again.

This is bit on the expensive side, but this is the type of cardigan I was thinking of.

I think Lands End has a few in a lighterweight ,cheaper style.

Melman & Terri - You're right, the square toes are everywhere! I went shoe gazing this morning and saw them all over the place.
I bought these shoes (in black) instead of the black ones in my first post:

Not very sexy but at least its a heel that I can comfortably walk and chase the kids around in the morning.
The brown boots from my first post are out, hated them in the store. Plus I realize I don't want brown with that jumper anyway.
I'm in love with brown boots only because a saleslady at BR this weekend had on a pair of just below the knee BR pants that I own with a burnt orange turtleneck and flat brown boots and I thougt she looked great. But of course the only time I'd wear the boots would be with those pants. And today I was in love with the 3" heeled boots over the flat boots but didn't buy either since I know how impractical the 3" ones are!:o

I didn't like any of the shoes in your first post! Sorry! But I do like the one's your purchased today! A very classic look,IMO, that you can wear with pants or a jumper.
Good luck with the boot search!

It's me again! I bought these shoes but have a question regarding nylons, socks, etc. What do you wear with these and the other ones I posted? Black, nude, ivory, nylons, trouser socks, what?!?

I usually use the little footies, in nude for my mary janes. On super cold days I would probably choose boots instead but if you're wearing black or dark pants I'd wear black trouser socks, if you're wearing them with khakis I'd wear nude. If it really is cold you could go with tights as well, then you get an extra layer on your legs but I'd do tights long before nylons.

UGH!!!
I've been wearing the black shoes from a few posts back around the house, chasing the kids with no problem. Wore them out for the 1st time today and my feet are killing me!
I ran morning errands, took DD to PreK and walked from the parking lot to office and I have a red blister on my right heel and my the tops of both the pinky toes are red and irritated!
How do you all do it?!?

Well, honestly, it always takes my feet awhile to build up calluses to resist the pain. You might try some moleskin the next time you wear them. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you. :(

Sue,
They are Softspots from JC Penney http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/Products.aspx?DeptID=9452&CatID=29536&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=124adcd&ProdSeq=9&Cat=dress&Dep=SHOES&PCat=Women%27s+COMFORT&PCatID=28656&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=19&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0&RefPageName=CategoryAll%252Easpx&RefCatID=28656&RefDeptID=9452&Page=2&CmCatId=9452|28656|29536

Thanks, Sarah! I think I'll pop over there this weekend & see if they have them in the store! I was so afraid they were going to be: A) super expensive or B) from a store that we don't have here in the shopping boonies!
They look so comfy! I just can't wear high heels anymore,,, they kill my knees.

I would have never guessed those were JCPenney shoes. And they are on sale and come in wide!!! Now I'm kicking myself for deleting a JCPenney email the other day with a free shipping link. Here's a code for $10 off a $50 purchase though: WP3413MSM

Sue,
Double check the link I posted because some of the Softspot shoes from JCP were online exclusives and not available in the stores.

Candace - The other Softspots that I ended up buying are so comfortable, I'm kicking myself for not wearing those today instead of the Naturalizers I have on.
Moleskin: Do you put the sticky part on your skin or on the shoe?

Will do, thanks! Otherwise, I'll try the online coupon I got the other day... I think it's the same one Candace posted.

Sarah, thanks for this thread! :) I had the exact same questions as you - I'm having a hard time finding appropriate shoes for fall skirts/dresses and dress pants.
Which of the shoes were the ones you said were really comfortable? I wasn't sure if it was the first ones in your first post or one of the others. They have the softspot shoes at zappos, but much more expensive.

Joanne - These are the ones I love! They also have a similar style with a skinner heel that I really want too but can't justify right now.:D I ordered my from Pegasus Shoes; about $10 cheaper than zappos, good return policy and I found an on-line coupon for free S/H but it took 5 days (I wasn't in a hurry).

They are Naturalizers that I got from DSW. Unfortunately they were the "problem shoes", wonderful in the house on the carpet but awful in the real world.:(

I think the heel height might be culprit on those shoes. I think they're cute too but for a day of hard errand running and child chasing on pavement (or on the concrete floors that they have in most stores) I would have chosen something with a lower profile. Don't throw them away yet, just know what they're capable of. :D
