I will be in Denver soon for a conference ... what are some must see sites? I will have one free day. Thanks.

Well, are you looking to do more outdoors type stuff or museums and such? Will you have a car or need to use public transit? Any special interests?

Hi,
I won't have a car, and I'll be staying downtown. So, I guess I am looking for things to do downtown - museums, shopping, etc. Thanks.

The Denver Art Museum recently (in the last year or so) opened an expansion and I've yet to get there at all but hear good things about it. Downtown Denver has a walking mall called the 16th Street Mall that has some shopping on it but it's mostly your typical mall shops.
There are a couple of good breweries in the area including Wynkoop Brewery and Rock Bottom Brewery which are both locally owned. Colorado has a high number of breweries and we are proud of them so if you like beer you should definitely head to one. Larimer Square also has some shopping and restaurants including Corridor 44, Rioja and Samba Room. Corridor 44 is the place where the martini and champagne flight pics from birthday were taken if you saw those.
There are a number of nice parks to enjoy and the Riverfront Area is right on South Platte river. If the water is decent you might catch people on kayaks playing in the park there. We also have a botanical gardens, natural history museum and zoo. Actually, Mcgeiger is doing an externship at the zoo for the next 3 weeks so hopefully she'll check in with more info on that.
I'll keep thinking and let you know what else might work.

If you do go to the 16th Street Mall, be sure to make it to the Tattered Cover, on Wynkoop Street. It is only a block or so off the mall. It is a locally owned bookstore. If you love browsing in bookstores make sure to go there. :)

I doubt your day off is a Sunday, but if so, can you say BRONCO GAME (if they're home)???
Sorry - I couldn't resist. I'm a huge fan.

If you like history, the Molly Brown museum might interest you too.

Lara, I haven't made it to the new location of Tattered Cover and didn't realize that's where it is. Good to know. When I would come visit my grandparents as a child we always made a stop at Tattered Cover and I would spend hours in front of the shelves with Babysitters Club and then Nancy Drew books trying to decide which ones to get. I was always allowed around 4 or 5 books. Thanks for bringing back a sweet memory! :)

If you're interested in Molly Brown, you might also want to head to the Museum of Nature & Science for the Titanic exhibit. We went last week and loved it. You have to have a ticket for the exhibit, so you may want to buy it in advance, as it is a timed entry event.
Also, isn't the "new" tattered cover on Colfax, east of downtown? Although, I do like the one by Wynkoop. :-)

Actually, the new location of the TC is somewhere on Colfax - I thought it was the Cherry Creek one that moved, not the LoDo one??
Here is TC's website. (http://www.tatteredcover.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp?page=74413&s=storeinfo&) This shows the location of the LoDo TC, which is at the end of the 16th Street Mall. For some reason, I was thinking it was a block off of the mall.

I have never been to the CC one, but the one in LoDo is wonderful. Has such a neat feeling about it.
