I liked the old standby, "What to Expect When You're Expecting," and I also found "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" to be good too.

Babycenter.com has a weekly enewsletter too.

Although it's been awhile for me ;) , I recall that the What to Expect books were a standout. Congratulations!! Don't get overwhelmed by the blizzard of child info (is this your 1st?). For me, the magazine subscriptions (to Child, etc.) were a total waste of time. You're smart to limit your info a little bit.

I also recommend What to Eat when You're Expecting. :)

Surely the BB doesn't know before DH does . . . ?

Or, how are you going to tell him the happy news? :)

I have this one book marked at amazon from a trusted source on the internet but I'm not expecting yet and really haven't looked at it in too much detail. BUT, it looks really good!

Congratulations!

I'd second the "What to Expect" series but they can also be quite alarming! I had what I would call a more laid-back approach to my pregnancy than most of my friends, though.

I'd jump onto the pregnancy thread here, too. LOTS of useful information in that group (I'm a graduate of the original TTC threads and now the PG thread - DD is 2.5)

Congratulations! The main reference book I used for my pregnancy was the Mayo Clinic guide:

Congratulations! "The Natural Pregnancy Book" is also a great book for a pregnant woman. It offers nurturing exercises, herbs, rituals, and nutritional advice for the pregnant woman, in addition to discussing alternative childbirth methods and natural childbirth. You can look up

For my first pregnancy, I bought a lot of books. For my second time around, this is the only one I still look at:

http://www.amazon.com/Pregnancy-Bible-Complete-Guide-Parenthood/dp/155297796X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-0050280-8188439?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190804885&sr=8-1

I love the pictures, and the information is clear and accessible. The Girlfriend's Guide was entertaining, but I suspect that in real life the author and I wouldn't have a single thing in common, so I found myself a little impatient with it at times. :) My husband enjoyed it, too. What to Expect I found overly didactic and guilt-inducing.

When you're a bit farther along, I highly recommend Baby Bargains.

Veschke and I are on the same page - I found myself very annoyed with parts of the Girlfriend's Guide. It was all just very foreign to my experience. I also found What to Expect to be not as helpful as some other books; I think it's just become such a standard that everyone gets it no matter what.

I really liked With You and Your Baby All the Way by Jeri Colonnero --
http://www.amazon.com/You-Your-Baby-All-Way/dp/0923521437/ref=sr_1_10/104-6143504-2765509?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190828521&sr=8-10 She was matter of fact and gave a good level of detail. This is the one I took with me to the hospital.

With my second pregnancy, I had one that was a week by week guide to pregnancy. It was great. I found What to expect when expecting to be not for me.

Congratulations! I found out a year ago this week that I was pregnant, and DD is now almost 4 months old.:) Time flies!

Just an fyi--My dr.'s office gave me a copy of Your Pregnancy Week by Week (approximate title) at my first prenatal appt., so I was really glad I had not already bought a copy. You may want to call to ask your dr. if they give you anything. So I owned that book and just checked others out at the library. I loved the week-by-week format. DH and I would read it together every Friday night to see how the little one was progressing. My Mom gave me The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy and it was a really fun read, but I agree with others' assessment that it's not the most practical.
