I was sorting through some papers on Saturday, and I came across an envelope from our old mortgage company that had somehow been misplaced when it arrived, and was never opened. I was quite surprised to open it and find a check for $450.00. The problem is that the check was sent in November 2006, and it says "void after 180 days". Does anyone know if there is any way around this? To complicate matters, our mortgage company is different now from the one that issued the check. I tried calling the one that the sent the check, but they say I have to call the new company, and they are closed until tomorrow. Am I going to be out of luck? :(

When I have had a check that I lost or didn't cash, I have been able to call the company and have it reissued. So I would think you would be able to get it reissued.

I'm pretty sure that the new company will have to reissue the check, but that shouldn't be a problem. They just took over the servicing of your loan. I would think that they have to refund any money that's due you.

When I worked for a title company people would call after going through files and opening letters w/ checks from years past. We, of course, reissued the checks. That's why I always open mail even though it looks like junk.

I did that with a healtcare reimbursement check. It got lost when we moved and I found it several months later. I asked the company to re-issue the check. They promptly sent a new one.
