Have any groups combined any other activities with cooking (and EATING!) in their supper club group? Some ideas that have been expressed are investing, and crafts (perhaps for a ladies only group). Do any groups play cards after they eat? Please let us know!

Hi, we just had our first meeting last night, but I am going to suggest at our first dinner that we do a rating and discussion. I have made up some rating cards so everyone can rate the dish we make...then tally the ratings and come up with an overall consensus. I think it will be a good conversation as we get to know each other a little more. Anyway, has your group been meeting long? How is it set up, do you cook or go potluck? You could do some kind of trivia game, if there is one out there on food or wine, that would be a conversation starter.

I don't belong to a supper club, but when I belonged to a book group we combined it with a supper club in a way. Each person would bring a dish (the person whose house it was at would provide the main dish). Maybe a neat flip on that would be to have a supper/book club.

Laura,
Our Supper Group has been meeting monthly since June. So far, all of our activities and plans have been food related. We did have a swim party/dinner in the summer and a Halloween Party in October. In December, we had a Progressive Dinner and traveled from house to house to enjoy everyone's Christmas decorations. We are planning a special Dinner in February for Valentine's Day.
Other future plans: In the summer we are renting a covered patio boat at a nearby lake. The boat is equipped with a BBQ and ice chests. We plan on cruising around all day and feasting on outdoor CL recipes. We are also going to rent out a B&B this spring that is actually a replica of a medevial castle. The innkeeper is going to let us take over her kitchen and we are going to cook our dinner there. (I think we will let HER make breakfast, though.) It is a gorgeous property and we will rent out the entire castle for the night. One last idea we had, was having our husbands plan and cook the dinner one month... That should be quite amusing! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
We will be looking forward to hearing ideas from other CL Supper Groups!

Hi All,
I've looked at the excahnge messages from the Cincinatti club that has offered some ideas. Our group in Seacoast MA/NH/ME has been meetin since August and have had lots of fun. We have gone hiking together and brought "trail" food. We are having a Mardi Gras theme dinner this month (I'm a trnsplanted New Orleanian) and plan to do a pottery painting night at a local pottery store and will bring foods that you would take to a part/picnic. Hope this gives some ideas of different things to do. The castle thing sounds fabulous! Angie

Farmer's Market:
Our group thought about going to a local farmers market, buying fresh produce, and seeing what we come up with. this would be like the "Dueling Chef's" show on tv.
