Hi everyone! I have neglected this board for a while and just noticed that there were no posts on our first dinner so I thought I'd be the first to share.
We had a total of 6 people and everyone brought a prepared item. Our hostess decided on an Italian theme. However, we met on Feb. 22nd before the March issue came out so we did not get to try any of those dishes. We had the Sun-dried Tomato Tapenade with Crostini from the Dec. 2000 issue and a sun-dried tomato dip from the BB and both were excellent. For our soup course we had Cioppiono(sp?) which was not from CL but was fairly light and very good. We also had a mixed greens salad with a light vinaigrette, also very tasty. For our main course we had Eggplant with Tomato and Mushroom Sauce(CL recipe but I forget which one) and Vegetable Lasagna (CL J/F 2001). Both of these were also wonderful but I really love eggplant and thought this dish was fantastic! And for dessert I made the Italian Cream Cake. Considering it was the first time I made this I thought it was an excellent light cake. In fact my twins are turning one this weekend and I am making this as one of the cakes for the party.
Every one in the group likes wine so we had several bottles on the table to try. I had a Shiraz by Black Opal and really enjoyed it.
The first supper went very well even though we are just getting to know one another. Everyone was extremely nice and we have our next meeting planned for March 25th. I'm looking forward to getting to know the people in our group better and eating more great food and trying more great wines!

Heather,

Thanks for the report! Our group is considering an Italian theme for our April dinner so I was very interested in your menu choices.

Good luck with your new group!

Heather,

Thanks for reporting on the second Cincinnati group! As a member of the first Cincinnati group, I'm glad to hear the second one is up and going strong. I'll be looking forward to reading future posts about your group and hearing how you're doing from Mary (the member we have in common). Here's to healthy cooking in Porkopolis!
