My company is taking us (employees and SOs) on a tour of Colorado's Wine Country this weekend and we are all very excited for it except for the 4 hour motor coach ride to get over the mountains. I'm pretty content with chatting and watching the aspens and enjoying the scenery without having to drive which is a rarity for me but we know with that long people will start get antsy. We will be stopping about half way for a rest stop.

Anyhow, my marketing director and I are trying to come up with some games or such that we can play on the bus for prizes along the way to pass the time. We'll have around 25 adults from about 24 years old to 55 years old with all different sorts of backgrounds. So, does anyone have any ideas?

What about trivia? You could hand out chips for correct answers and the people with the most could cash them in for prizes? My local wine shop has a wine trivia game, but I can't remember the name of it.

Seems like it would be hard/impossible to play board or card games on a bus, so games where people can yell out the answer might be easiest. Or you could hand out game sheets too.

When we were little, we used to play "auto bingo" when we were in the car with my grandparents. They had bingo cards with things like stop signs, cat, policeman, etc. in the spots and you would mark them off when you saw them. I don't think it would be hard to make your own.

Sounds like a fun trip - have a great time!

Personal Scavenger Hunt

Give each person on the bus a list of items commonly carried by both men and women in their pockets, purses or billfolds...such as handkerchiefs, pen, pencil, nail clippers, picture, stick of gum, piece of candy, key, etc. and have all people start at signal and see how many they have. First person to get all items correctly is winner. If a person tells you they have them all, game stops to check them. If they do NOT have all items, restart game. You may need to set a time limit if you don't have a winner in a reasonable time.
NO ONE CAN GET ANY ITEM FROM ANOTHER PERSON, items must be in your personal possession to count.

Have fun!

Mad Libs!!! I've yet to meet an adult who can resist them.

Hah! That could be really funny considering we're serving mimosas and bloody marys before boarding the bus.

Thanks for the ideas so far and keep 'em coming.

Old Navy did something like this last "Friday After Thanksgiving". They'd call out an object and the first person to pull that item off his/her person/wallet/purse won a small prize. It was a lot of fun and very challenging to do when you have an armload of deals in your hands!

I think many (most??) motor coach type-things have TV screens - so you could always play a good movie for those that don't "do" games.

my friends had a battle of the sexes CD that we listened to in the car once. it was really fun. one person keeps score and the CD asks questions to just men/women or both. first one with the right answer gets the point. i can try to find out where they got it if you're interested.

Ah, but this is supposed to be a team building sort of trip but I'll mention it.

SheRa, the battle of the sexes thing sound interesting, maybe I can find some sort of trivia cards or such.

Do you have time to ask all participants to send you a tidbit about themselves that very few, if any, people would know?

We do a company "Jeopardy" game each year at our holiday meeting, and it always goes over well. Our columns are generally our business units, but you could stratify however you want. We've had items such as "Who was a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader?" and "Who was the champion 6th grade speller?" We use a wall and tape up the categories/questions, but you could do it with posterboard and index cards.

This, of course, presumes you have the time to do all of this.

Robyn,
I don't have any suggestions but wanted to say what a great idea for team building-nice that your company is doing this. I like the wine trivia game idea.
Enjoy! It should be a beautiful trip this weekend. Sue
