I would like to get a magazine subscription for one of my friend's child. The girl is 4. I know there are quite a few magazines to choose from -- I noticed that Hightlights has a magazine geared to the younger set. I think it is new.

If you know about, any feedback would be great.

Here's some info (copies from web)
For ages 2 to 6, Highlights High Five encourages children's development while having fun time. Based on sound educational principles and widely accepted child-development theories, each issue brings a mix of read-aloud stories and age appropriate puzzles and activities.

Description
Highlights High Five is the newest offering from the publisher of the nation's #1 children's magazine, Highlights for Children. Like its older sibling publication, Highlights High Five is founded on the belief that children are the world's most important people, and helps set children firmly on the path to becoming curious, creative, caring, and confident individuals.

Thanks.

I was just looking at this for my 4-year-old! It looks like a lot of fun. I'm trying to choose between this and a National Geographic kids magazine that we liked a lot.

My 5 1/2 year old girl loves it - I think it'd be a perfect gift.

We've gotten Highlights High Five for a year and have been happy with it. My DD, who is now 6, is probably ready to move up to regular Highlights, but she really enjoys High Five. She loves to do the puzzles and activities.

Conversely, the current version of National Geographic Kids was a huge disappointment. The layout seems to have been designed by/for someone with serious attention deficit problems, and my girls find it hard to follow. It's also full of advertising, which surprised me. I don't remember any advertising in World magazine years ago. I know there's a new edition of National Geographic that has been developed for younger children. Maybe it's better. We've gotten subscription information in the mail, but I passed on it because I was so disappointed in the version for older kids.

I've never seen any kids magazines, except for Highlights from back in the day.

For those that are familiar with the mags out there, any preference? I know there is a Ladybug (I think), and can't recall the others.

I don't know which ones are geared to different age groups etc.

I'll admit the Highlights one caught my eye, since I loved, loved, loved the finding the hidden items on their pictures from the original one.

I think the little girl will get a kick out of getting her own mail too!

THANKS!

The weeone also gets Chirp magazine, which she loves as well. And, yes, a big part of her love for the magazines is that she gets her own MAIL!!!

My boys are a little younger, and like Wild Animal Baby and the National Geographic Little Kids.

My boys (ages 5 and 7) enjoy Your Big Backyard.

They also like Ranger Rick, but that's for a slightly older set. Magazines are a great gift!

We get Your Big Backyard and Highlights High Five for my kids (3 and 5) and both are great magazines.
