I have coarse, color-treated hair with a top layer that tends to be more kinky so I blow dry it straight every morning. I always use conditioner. But I have not had much luck with finding a conditioner that actually seems to make my hair feel soft and not dry. I may be expecting a miracle since my hair is coarse, but thought I would check to see if anybody has a conditioner that they really like for their coarse hair. TIA!

I use Biolage Smoothing Balm. I have color-treated, getting-curlier-by-the-day hair and while I use a regular conditioner in the shower I use the balm after towel drying (I don't blow dry my hair anymore).

I find that my conditioner doesn't matter as much as my leave-in products. I have colored my hair for 30 years, and it is naturally wavy-almost-curly, so it can be coarse and frizzy sometimes. I use Sebastian Potion 9 and Sebastian CURL (a silicone product) after washing and towel drying. They make a huge difference. With the problems you're describing, I think a silicone-based product before you blow dry would make a huge difference.

Do you deep condition? I have found that that makes a big difference for me. My hair is straight. I'm growing it out to donate and having a heck of a time keeping it from drying out. I have to deep condition regularly to keep the dryness at bay. I like K-Pak (from Joico) and Redken's CAT conditioner. Sometimes I'll even put the stuff in the ends of my hair and not rinse it out.
Good luck. I hate when my hair gets that dry, crunchy thing going on.

A trick that I learned while working in a spa/salon was to lightly dampen my hair, apply think conditioner, lightly warm with blow dryer and then sleep with it on. I don't do it often because I have very fine hair but it does help, especially in the winter when it's taking a beating on the ski slopes. I usually use my normal conditioner but for a really deep conditioning I use Aveda's Cherry Almond Bark.

I also reccomend Sebastian's "potion no 9". I, too have thick, curly hair. I only use the no 9 about once a week, though. The only thing I've found to get my tangles out is Pantene. Either "color-treatd" or "hydrating curls"

I recommend Biolage Ultra-Hydrating Balm.

Plus, it really helps when blowdrying a section of hair to switch to the "Cool" setting for the last 10-15 seconds. It will smooth the cuticle of the hair much more than just using "Hot" all the time.

Thanks for the recommendations! I do use a silicone gel in my hair too, and that helps. It just still feels so dry. :( If I let my hair dry naturally, and touch it, it doesn't feel soft - it feels like hay. I think I will try an intensive conditioner or try Robyn's suggestion this weekend.
