I'm not exactly sure how this happened, but DS (7) and I suddenly have reversed our musical tastes. I'll be happily singing along to Joe McDermott (a kick-butt local kids' musician) or They Might Be Giants "No!", and now I get this look:  and "Mom - can we PLEASE just listen to Bob Schneider? Or Wilco???"
Sheesh. I might have to have another pip-squeak just so I can sing along to Raffi again! :p

Cute! Your kid needs to teach my kid about good music. Every time we get in the car, my 2-year-old wants me to turn on the radio so he can hear "Big Girls Don't Cry" (Fergie). His other favorite is that Gwen Stefani/Akon song with the "woo hoo, wee hoo" refrain. DS can imitate it exactly, much to my delight.

Ok - well I do have to admit that he is also quite fond of the Black Eyed Peas. "Pump It" was a particular favorite for oh, about 2 YEARS! :o
It's so interesting to see what appeals to them - I find that he often likes the same songs I do, even though I don't necessarily listen to them any more than the other ones on the album. I wonder if musical tastes are genetic. Or maybe it's just that I have 7-year-old taste in music.

The weeone has always been a bit of a parrothead - put on some Jimmy Buffet and watch her jam out! Of course, she likes just about anything with a dance-able beat to it as well...and Hannah Montana...and the Jonas Brothers....the list goes on!
Oh, and I don't think that taste in music is genetic...mainly because she LOVES hip hop and I don't particularly care for it. It's funny to see a 5 year sing "1-2 Step" though!!!

Rob's current favs are Billy Joel and Simon & Garfunkle. Over and over and over. And over.

When our girls were little, they would sing along to Donna Summer's "Bad Girls" in their little chirpy voices...they loved the "hey, toot toot beep beep" parts!
Now, when I sing along to a remix...they'll say, "how do you know this song?"

This one made me laugh, and brought back some great memories...
When I was leading a youth group at my church (about 4-5 years ago), I had two pre-teenage girls who would only listen to Abba and the Beatles. Mind you they knew every word, to every song, for both artists... It really made road trips with them "interesting" to say the least.... How MANY times do I need to hear "Dancing Queen" with an out of tune singalong...
Definitely a good time of my life though - despite the out of tune, and time, singing. :-)

I think its great! I share an iTunes library with my 12 yo and he has funkified my workouts! It's been great. And his buddies think it's amazing I listen to Billy Talent.
My younger boys do still charmingly like my music too. But I am sure they'll get ahead of me soon enough.
