hi...i made a bet with a fellow foodie and we decided that the payment for the bet would be a surprise.

so if I lose the bet I have to get him something but i'm debating on what to get. He's on the west coast and I'm on the east coast, there are there are two local things I can think of:

- New England clam chowder from Legal Seafoods (they ship)
- Case of Sam Adams brews

but i'm trying to think of other things, and have come up with:

- gift box of various sea salts (napa style has great stuff)
- gourmet coffee (he's a coffee junkie)

but i need more options....i have a feeling this is something he and I are going to do alot now that we've started this little "eastcoast/westcoast" thing. heehee also, he works for a wealthy client and has access to alot of great stuff so I have to keep it original...

ideas???

Several types of Sam Adams is nationally available (at least it's available as far away as Texas), so I wouldn't do that - stick to something he can't get. Unless they make some specialty beers that are only available locally.

I don't know what your regional specialties are (Sam Adams is definitely widely available where I live) so I don't have any solid suggestions, but NapaStyle products (and retail stores) are pretty widespread, so I would probably look to farmers' markets or any great restaurant that produces products for retail sale.

it doesn't have to be something that he can't get himself...I'm just trying to think of things that would be nice to get.

yes he can get himself a case of sam adams but it's still a nice gift to give someone and it has the "boston" touch since i'm from boston.

does that make sense?

I guess in general, as a food what are things you would like to get as a gift?

an expensive bottle of aged balsamic, truffle salt or oil...etc.

Is he from the west coast or has he moved there. I live in Phoenix but I am form NYC so I always love to a New York item I can't out here. When friends send me things.
