I have a recipe that calls for red russian dressing and I haven't been able to find it at the supermarket.
Then I got to thinking - What is the difference between this and plain Russian Dressing?
Anyone have a recipe for Red Russian dressing?

Sometimes I'm glad I've hung on to some of my old cookbooks. :D Not T&T or anything, so I can't comment on the flavor.
If you are so inclined, here is a Russian Dressing recipe.
Russian Dressing
1/3 cup chili sauce (Probably like Heinz or similar)
2/3 cup mayo
3 1/2 tbsp chopped dill pickle
1/8 tsp dry mustard
1/8 tsp onion powder (I imagine even some finely minced fresh onion or shallot would work)
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and blend well. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.

I don't have a recipe per say but I make this Russian Dressing that my Dad always made.
In a pint size mason jar
finely diced garlic, shallots, horse reddish and dill pickle ( i grate them on a micro plane grated this days) 2-3 tablespoons ketchup 1/2 to 3/4 cups mayo the juice of 1/2 lemon and salt and pepper to taste. put on you lid and shake until combined.
Taste for seasoning adjust as needed

WIHBONE makes a Red Russian dressing. It is the only one that is truely red in color and, yes, it does taste a little like Catalina or Country French. (The people who name these things ought to talk to one another - it can be quite confusing). Unfortunately, the Red Russian dressing is not available in all geograpgic areas - who knows why! Also, it seems only certain chains carry it. I get it at Shop and Save when a blue moon rises in months with "r's" in them, but it is never available at Giant Eagal in Pittsburgh. Otherwise I have to drive from Pittsburgh to Erie to get it at Giant Eagal. I don't know what the story is but it is the same with several other products - Jello makes a wonderful custard pudding called "Americana" and there is a web site with litterly thousands of seekers for it since it disappeared from most grocery shelves a few years ago. Why did it disappear? Not because it was unpopular, obviously, but because you have to cook it for ten minutes and that didn't fit with some goof-ball marketing executive's vision of their product in metropolitan areas (no time to cook, must get Billy to Soccer practice and Betty to Ballet practice (or the other way around), then back into one of our SUVs to get to my appointment for a manny-pedi then hair-do, then on to the spa before heading home to order in Chinese or Thai!!!!!!! I buy it by the case from either "Amazon" or "Buy the Case" web sites. Try it for Red Russian Dressing.

Intrigued as I am only familiar with "pink" Russian dressing, I googled and found this thread on the Taste of Home forums.
What is mindboggling to me is that all of the discussion was to make that darn chicken recipe my aunts served in the 1950's -- the one that has you pour Russian dressing, Lipton onion soup mix and apricot preserves on chicken. :p Whenever I come across any kind of community cookbook that recipe is always there. FWIW, my aunts made it with the "pink" Russian dressing. :D
