View Full Version : Has anyone bought or sold a CAR on EBay?

I wrecked my car back in June - insurance totalled it, but was willing to give me pennies for it AND wouldn't give me sufficient time to find another car. The original car was completely driveable - with fairly light and easily repaired (with the right skill and tools) damage.

Found another similar car and have now put the wrecked one on eBay. Put a high resenve on it because I have no idea what it is worth due to the Salvage title. I have been completely honest about the car and its problems and have posted many pictures, but I worry that some buyer is going to come down here and have a problem with it, demand their money back and give me bad feedback.

Any experiences that you can relate to make me feel better?

I am sort of surprised what someone will pay for the salvage car when similar undamaged versions sell for maybe 30-50% more.

Thanks!

When someone buys a vehicle on ebay it is safest to put the payment in Escrow, then the buyer has a certain amount of time to look over the vehicle and decied if you were truthful about your advertisement. The escrow is released to the seller, when the buyer either approves or says no. If you are shipping the vehicle to some place, you the seller would pay to ship it back to you. It would be safest to say only local buyers or buyers who could come and get it apply.

I have sold three motorcycles, two antique trucks and another newer truck this way and I also bought my Mercedes Convert on ebay. I've never had to ship back a vehicle. I drove to Philly from Richmond to look over the Mercedes and drove it home.

Good Luck.

My BIL bought a car on ebay and had it shipped half way across the country. You get what you pay for, he thought he was getting a deal, the car had alot of wear and tear and needed everything including a new hood! He dumped alot of money into the car and sold it (not on ebay). Took a big loss for the car.

I did purchase my new car online directly from a dealer two hours away and they did all of the paper work over the phone and delivered the car to my door! I never saw the car in person until they pulled in my driveway. I would buy a car online again. Great great price, no local dealer could come close.

Good luck, Debralynn

Since the buyer wants to fly down and pick up the car - should I require him to use Paypal? Will he still have the EBay buyer protection if he pays cash when he gets here? This transaction is less than $2000, so the Escrow thing probably doesn't make that much sense. Paypal is going to take 3-4% depending if he sends the funds from Canada (where he is) or the US. Ouch - on top of the eBay fees and Second Chance Offer fees.

Still amazes me that he wants to come from Canada to pick up my car, but if he has already paid for it - more power to him.
