I'm supposed to drive to San Diego tomorrow...

...to see my brother's band play in Ocean Beach. He's hard to get a hold of (he's fine, but dead cell phone), so what do you guys think, is the weather bad enough that I should change my plans???

I just got off of the phone with a friend that lives in Down town San Diego. She said that it is pretty bad there now. The winds are blowing everything west. Towards the beach. They are on alert now for an evac. if needed.:eek:

I wouldn't go. The winds are really bad and driving through the desert you get bad sand storms and then you hit hilly parts which are hard when windy. Then once you get there, a lot of major roads are closed and they are evacuating many areas. The air is going to be smokey.

its sad this is happening again - they got hit really bad a few years ago.

I have been following the news closely to check on friends and family there, and I don't think you should go tomorrow. Some freeways have been closed, and officials are urging people to stay off the open freeways to accomodate the evacuees. The OB area is safe, but San Diego County is just somewhere I wouldn't want to travel to right now. (One of the fire officials has said that he thinks the fires won't stop until they hit the beach. :( )

Probably not a good idea to come here. Some roads are closed. People are being asked to stay off the roads if they don't need to be on them. Air quality is lousy. Just not a good time to visit if you don't have to.

I wouldn't go. Not only for your safety but the idea that contributing extra people to the situation which drains resources if something even more major happens.

Also. If he is already in San Diego, it's likely his cell phone is off and not dead as we are being asked not to use cell phones during this. It's possible his gig may get cancelled as well.

thanks all--I cancelled my hotel and heard from my brother, who is camping on a beach about 30miles north of SD and he said the beach is packed with people.
He also told me not to come.

Bummer! Hope everyone's well in that area...:(
