I am hosting a Halloween party this Saturday for 30-35 11-12 year olds (boys and girls), from 6-9 pm. I will have a chocolate fountain, chips, soda, etc. How many pizzas should I order? Any ideas for anything else to kind of fill in? As you can tell, the pizza is really the main deal and with decorating I really need to keep it SIMPLE. The fact that it is all junk doesn't really bother me in the least and I let all the parents know ahead of time that that's how it would be.
Thanks!

I would think one large pizza should feed 3 people so I would get 10. I would serve a dip with the chips. Have fun at the party

30-35 pre-teens? Can I just say you're a brave woman!
I would figure 2-3 slices per kid. I've noticed that different pizza places cut their pizza's differently, so call and see how many slices are in a pizza.. Have fun! :D

Before scrolling down to look at responses, I also estimated 10. Around here most of the pizza places will give you a deal when you order that many at a time. You can probably get all of them for around $50.

I'm thinking a large pizza is 16" and cut into 8 slices. If you figure 2-3 slices per kid, you need anywhere from 70-105 slices for 35 kids, so I agree with the other posters- 10-12 pizzas.
To fill in- maybe some bunches of grapes or other easy-to-eat fruit? (Or fruit for dipping in the chocolate fountain?)

I would buy 11 - just to make sure I had enough.
The girls won't eat in front of the boys, but the boys will eat more than their share.
I would have bowls of chips and cheetos.
Chocolate fountain for 35 preeteens? wow are you brave and cool mom.

ok so i totally err on the side of too much food, but i would probably get 15 pizzas. especially since you can freeze it or send it home with kids.

Are they thin or thick crust? My answer would massively depend on that--thick pizzas serve way more per pizza I would think.
My instinct is that you need more than 10 pizzas. I base this on several factors: A. it is better to have too much than too little when hosting parties--ALWAYS (at least this is true for me); B. I assume this party will have boys as well as girls--boys have no compunction about eating a lot (whereas as some of the girls might) C. these kids will be away from their parents and whatever health restrictions they are normally under and might eat even more because of that.
Also some of them might play sports--my brothers would have needed practically one pizza for each of them. Not saying you should plan that way, just saying some of the kids might need/want more than 2-3 slices. For thin crust I would get 15; for thick maybe 12...

I've found that with kids that age, they're so excited, running around, having fun, that sometimes they barely eat. I would figure 2 slices each (assuming a 16 inch large pizza cut into 8 slices). Some will only eat one, some will eat two, and I'm sure, not many at all will eat three. I think you'd totally be fine with 10 large pizzas.

Thanks for the help! It ended up being 28 kids and I ordered 7 pizzas and they ate 6. It did totally end up that they were so jacked up and running around that they were too excited to eat.
However, the chocolate fountain was a HUGE hit. They ate every single thing I put out for it and would have kept on going. I put a throwaway tablecloth under it and it was fine.
The party went well overall, except for a couple bad apples who were such hyper twits that it actually came close to ruining it for my son. We have decided that we are now all done with the "invite everyone to be nice" parties and it will strictly be "invite who you want" in the future. One of the high moments was the mom who brought her daughter on crutches to our "indoor/outdoor" party and complained that kids were running around outside as her daughter was on crutches. She then proceeds to tell me how her daughter is terrified of halloween costumes?! Hey, thanks for coming, really. I think a phone call ahead of time wouldn't have been remiss and this girl spent 90% of the evening huddled in my garage with the one girl who took pity on her and hung out with her so she wouldn't be alone.
Argh. Some parents have no sense, really.

Glad to hear the pizzas worked out perfectly and the party was a hit, aside from the few tools. It wouldn't be a party without at least one, right?
I was thinking of this thread the other night when DH & I ordered Domino's for dinner, and between just the two of us, polished off an entire large (albeit thin & crispy crust) pizza.

That does sound like a fun party, and I'm glad you ordered only 7. I would have overestimated for sure. We went out for pizza last night (thin crust), and DH and I polished off a large, and the kids (7 & 8) split a large and only had one slice left over!
