A lot of you have kept up with the medical issues of my youngest ds so I thought I'd share our good new with you. Late summer/early fall is his annual "look under the hood and kick the tires" physical appointment at the local rehab hospital, an appointment he dreads each year. This year was especially difficult because he feels that he's made all the progress that he's going to right now; he just wants to be normal; etc. As a mom I want to take advantage of every option during his high growth years to assure the best possible future for his physical health.

After a the usual battery of test (neurological, occupational, and orthopedic) the consensus is that he is at a slow phase of growth right now and that - if he continues his stretching routine - he will not have to be fitted for an orthopedic brace right now and no physical therapy is needed at this time. The doctors feel that we have done all we can for the time being, and now we wait for the next growth spurt and see what shakes out.

Rob is, of course, thrilled. :) And I'm happy too. So I thought I'd share with you all:) . :) Rob doesn't have to be a "patient" for at least a year.

Thanks everyone!

Debie

Oh, Debie, I can't tell you how happy that makes me! I'm going to PM you because I'd like to send something from Vicon for Rob. He is the model of what our company is trying to accomplish.

Go Rob! I'd send a pair of Underoos your way, but I suspect he's outgrown them. :)

That's awesome news, Debie. Give him a hug from me.

For those that might be confused, Rob frequently goes through some testing using the systems that the company that Colleency and I work for creates.

**snort** Sandy - he's boxers only now. :) Bless his heart. He often asks about you though. Which ought to freeze your heart in terror at what he may be plotting. :D

Robyn - I'll PM you back! You don't need to send anything though. He'd probably love the attention - the flirt. How cool Canice works there too!

I, too, am happy that you have good news to report. However, being a relatively new member I'm not aware of his medical issues. If you can share in a nutshell I'd appreciate it. He sounds like a great kid!

Rob had a stroke prior to birth, which led to a cerebral palsy diagnosis. He's 12 now, but he's been involved since age 1 in heavy amounts of physical and occupational therapy, as well as much orthopedic hardware (leg braces) and a couple of surgeries to lengthen heel cords.

You're so gracious :) Sending good news and non-patient vibes your way as well. Looking forward to celebrating with you!

Oops, Robyn - got the wrong name. Figures, doesn't it??

Well, given that he's all done with leg braces for awhile I couldn't leave well enough alone. :) He got his braces on his teeth rearranged and a new appliance installed the very next day. So - he's celebrating with chocolate shakes. :D

I have to torture him somehow.

Debie,
I am glad that Rob can just "be" for a while - that must feel great for all of you.

We've had fun making milkshakes out of leftover homemade ice cream lately - the ice cream tastes best the first night, and then we use the leftovers in great milkshakes. Strawberry...mmm.. Just thought I'd share that idea. (Mom of kids in orthodontia here...)

Thanks for sharing your joy. :)

Debie, That's fabulous!

Robyn called me this afternoon to tell me about the connection (I knew about your son, but I hadn't realized that Vicon was involved in the testing equipment) and your good news, and I hurried over here the first chance I got!

It must be such a relief for him to be away from all that for a while. It's hard enough being a kid without that.

Congratulations to you both!

:) :) Don't sweat it - I probably only talk about it once a year. Easy to miss!

Colleency - what a cool "connection", huh?
