On the theory that the only stupid question is the unasked question:
What do the envelopes mean in the first column of the thread listings? Sometimes they're orange, sometimes blue.... I can't find anywhere that tells me what they mean.

If you go to a forum such as "Great Food" and scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a legend for the thread icons.
