Four years ago, three days before Thanksgiving (that I was hosting) our fridge crapped out. We had to run out and buy one.

Then this weekend, our freezer turned into Gotham. It is bizarre how much ice is all over our food - even the ice. I think the temp is off, too. Coincidentally, before the freezer deal, our light that comes on when u open the door, decided to quit working. That controls the water spigot thingee. We sort of fixed that...

We checked the back. No obstructions, no hair.

So, sports fans, what is it and how much will it cost?

My guess is it's the condenser, not covered by warranty and it's going to be about $500.

Guesses anyone?

And if it is going to cost a lot more than that and we decide to get a new fridge, does anyone have a counter depth one that has water on the outside?

My guess is that it is going to cost whatever a new fridge costs. What a bummer :( .....guess Christmas is coming early this year to your house.

Joe just got a new fridge so you might take a look at his blog for info: http://desertculinary.blogspot.com/2007/10/woo-its-new-fridge-time-again.html

At the risk of jinxing myself, the fridge we bought when first one crapped out was a cheap $400 job that we keep in our garage. That thing is still going strong.

This Amana is a cabinet depth freezer on the bottom and we got it in 2003!!!!

will check blog

my 2002, freezer bottom, amana....also had the condenser crap out. luckily, it happened not long after the warranty expired (of course!!) and i fought like crazy and they covered it. it was going to be a fairly large amount...$800 (??). i'm sure i would have remembered had i had to pay for it. a couple of years later it had another big (?) problem, but the repairman offered that he could try something else (cleaning etc) which was $200 ish. days ago everything get all frosty...i was ready to go nuts, and then inexplicable, it started working perfect 24 hours later. in the meantime, i've been investigating replacements because i h-a-t-e this frig. what is it with appliances??!!

ok, i don't know if i answered your question, but i'm ready to scream jsut reading your post... and mine is finally working.

they're horrible, horrible, horrible. i hope something miraculous happens for you and your frig!!
