I'm really new at this forum thing, and it's great fun, but I feel like everyone knows everyone else. Did you guys have any introductions when you started posting on the board? Sorry, I'm not really up on my netiquette.

Emily,

Welcome! I'm fairly new as well, and I generally eavesdrop/read more than I post, but of course anyone is welcome to do either. I think there was an "Introduction" thread fairly recently: http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Forum1/HTML/001455.html

Emily-welcome! This board is a great place and you will probably soon feel like you are among old friends (or maybe that is just me-I am kinda geeky that way http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ). Anyway, my name is Susann-I have been a CL fan for about 5 years and a BB addict for less than a year. Live in Atlanta with my husband of almost 2 years who enjoys my fascination with cooking.

I suppose this is a little late, but the other introduction thread is 3 pages long, and I didn't think anyone would scroll through it anymore, so I'm starting a new one! I'm also a southern girl, but I just recently moved to Atlanta, and I live in the Dunwoody area. I feel like a baby on this board; I'm only 22 and I just graduated from college! I'm also a pretty avid runner, so if anyone wants to join me in exercise discussions, maybe I'll meet you sometime on the Health/Fitness board. I love this BB, and I've already become quite addicted; it's so much fun -- I have to tear myself away!

Susann,

Oh, that's so neat!

Hi, Emily, and welcome from one of the oldies on the board -- and I'm referring to my age! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Isn't this a wonderful place to hang out? If your addiction is like everyone else's, in less time than you can imagine you'll be a full-fledged member (which happens after you post 50 messages) and posting welcome messages to other newcomers. In fact, next thing you know, you'll be leaning back in your rocker and saying things like, "Yup, yup, I remember the olden days on the old CL Board. Lemme tell y'all young'uns about what it was like then...." http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Welcome, welcome,
Phoebe

Good to see another face here. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif It won't take long you will be addicted just like the rest of us. There are so many great cooks here to share and give advice. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif I join Ohioan in saying that I am another "oldie but goodie"...of course in age http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Hello to all - I've responded a few times and even posted once but wanted to say hello to my fellow Atlantans - I'm from Roswell. It's been alot of fun to keep up with this board, I've only been logging in for about a month but have really enjoyed all the posts. A friend of mine likes to refer to all of us as foodies. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hello and welcome,
I just couldn't resist saying hello to you southern folks. I lived in Atlanta for a year. I moved there with my husband and my 6wk old son(he's now 4)July of '96. That's right-a few weeks before the olympics began. My husband spent a year at Emory, and my second son was born in Atlanta(Northside Hospital). We moved when he was 6 weeks(he's now 3).Now the boys have a little sister. Hmmmm....there seems to be a pattern...3 states-3 kids....I think it's time to stop moving!!!!
Anyway, welcome and please shop at the Dekalb market for me. I love that place. I'm jealous.

Hi all, although a cooking light subscriber since 1994, I have just recently found the bulletin board. I live in Charlotte, NC, and my husband and I are "adventurous" eaters. I hoped that the bulletin board would help in finding the best meals, but I find that old saying "different strokes for different folks" is true. Some of the recipes are both liked and disliked.

Gosh-so many Atlantans! Karen W.-I will definitely think of you when I go to the farmers' market. The whole small world theme continues-both of my nieces (2 1/2 and 5) were born at Northside!

By the way, for all the Atlantans- (Atlantites???), a Whole Foods Market just opened in Sandy Springs-on Roswell Rd. close to 285. Just an FYI! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Oh my gosh, Whole Foods is such a fun store...I love it; it smells so good in there, and they have the greatest smoked salmon and produce. And it's the only place I've been able to find bagged "rustic arugula" which doesn't die on you in two days, and fresh figs! Mmmm...my favorite fruit.

Hello from Canada!
I'm new to the BB as well and since I'm one of those people who has to be in the mood to cook, I find it great for motivation. It feels like a relaxing cup of tea....

This seems like a good place to post my first message. I just recently found the BB (a direct internet connection makes a huge difference) and have been checking in every day to see what's new.

After looking back at the original introductions post and the various geographical meanderings, I might mention that I was born in Houston, raised in Virginia (plus 2 yrs in Michigan), went back to Dallas to go to college and live for the next 20 yrs, and have lived in Idaho for the last 13 yrs. Another goldie oldie.

It's been fun to start recognizing "voices." As I was reading various threads over the weekend, I was delighted to find someone else who "mind tasted" (A belated happy birthday to you, lorelei), and others who combine several different recipes or always make changes to a recipe and then try to remember what it was they did. I was also particularly interested in the postings on pregnancy cravings since my oldest daughter (whose name is also Emily) has just found out she's pregnant (first baby). So congratulations and much joy to you, MrsReber. I look forward to hearing how things are going with you and the baby.

It's wonderful to find such a warm and welcoming place filled with people who share my passion for food and cooking. Here's to many more hours of learning and sharing.

Sushibones- love the name! I feel so un-creative when I see some of these names! Thanks for the congratulations. My neice's name is Emily. Such a pretty name. There is another preggo lurking on the BB, she's a few weeks ahead of me so I'm counting on her for advice! This is baby number one. We need at least two.

Welcome everyone to the BB. I live in NJ (The Overpopulated State) and work full time in beautiful Newark, NJ (I'm being sarcastic, for those of you who have never seen Newark). Been married just over a year to my wonderfully sweet husband (disgusting, isn't it??) We are very very happy and we think kids will only make our lives more complete. We just bought some property (5 acres) in Drakes Branc VA (near Farmville and Keysville)- where we'd like to eventually move. It's so beautiful and peaceful there.

Okay all you Atlantans! I live in Tucker, go to the Farmer's Market often and now can't wait to try the Whole Food Market. Where is it exactly?

Susann
10-18-2000, 07:51 AM
Iqueen-the one that I am talking about is on Roswell Rd. Make a right off the exit (285). It is about 1/2 mile down on the left side of the road.

Since you are in Tucker, one that may be closer to you is on the intersection of Lavista and Clairmont (double check on this-I always confuse Lavista, Clairmont, and Briarcliff!!).

Have fun!

Although my name seems quite appropriate for a cooking BB, I came up with it when I was first on AOL and wanted something more distinctive than Susan27431 or somesuch. I was playing around with combinations of letters from my first, maiden, and last names, and discovered I could combine them to make a soundable name. Eureka!! I was quite pleased with myself. And still am, most of the time.

I wish you much joy in the adventure of raising children. I still have 2 at home--one 16 and one 14. I'm still tweaking the recipe. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Mrs R, you are making me giggle with your Newark comments! I am from New York City, and all of my NJ friends say similar things http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I'm a little late introducing myself. I'm from New York and a cooking fiend. I was married two months ago http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif to a wonderful man who is on a lowfat/no fat diet, and we spend a lot of time cooking food that tastes like it is bad for you. Our cats taste our creations and give their approval to most seafood dishes. I discovered these bulletin boards a few weeks ago and have become an addict very quickly. I've really enjoyed reading everyone's posts, and I hope that I've been helpful too!

Venus, I had a prior job in Newark in '92 and my father told me "if I had a choice of getting off the train in Newark or New York, I think I'd stay on!". It has improved some with the new Performing Arts Center, but it's still weird at times! I worked in midtown for about 4 1/2 years, but it was just too far. This takes 40 minutes off my commute each way- and much less stress too!

Sushibones, seems that the Susans are dominating this board! I am curious as to how many of us are out there! Must have something to do with the name, no?

Mrs.R --I can't imagine a 4 1/2 hour comute. It would drive me crazy. I live in the city because of that, sacrificing space and my big kitchen for convenience. I hope you get to move to VA soon. It sounds beautiful.

I need my trees and grass! Although NJ is running short on space nowadays. Yes, some days it could take me as long as 5 hours in total travel time. When it rains, you just know NJ Transit will have "signal problems" With all the technology today, you'd think they could fix that! It was half hour to the train, an hour on the train (provided I caught the express- and got a seat!) and then 20 minutes to the office on 6th ave. I usually walked it since I hate the subway. I resent the $1.50 fare and I find it too smelly and hot in the summer. I think I'll venture in to see a Christmas show this year and meet a former co-worker for lunch. The job that I had was just awful, too. I normally worked a 10 hour day (on top of the commute) and they wanted me to work about 14 hours a day- no exaggeration- and they were about to institute mandatory Saturdays. I had no choice but to leave there before I killed my boss. I am a much better person now - so much happier! And I even got better money here in Newark! Sorry to go on. The city isn't all bad, my dad lived there for many years and we did some fun things. He's in AZ now!

Just wanted to let you know there's ANOTHER Susan here. I'm currently living in Hamilton, Massachusetts, which is on the north shore -north of Boston. I'm originally from Arlington, Virginia. I think someone else in an earlier thread lived there too? I have traded the insanity of the DC area for a somewhat more laid back lifestyle in New England. I telecommute to my job, so all I have to do is walk downstairs! Sorry MrsReber!

Susan, a.k.a. slknight,

I live in Arlington, VA right now. DC is a hectic nightmare, but I choose to live in Arlington because I also work in Arlington and who wants to sit for hours on the beltway!! Mrs. Reber, one of my boyfriends friends from high school lives in Red Bank and commutes to downtown NYC everyday. He said he is on the train for two hours each way! I couldn't stand that!

Hi Everyone! Like Emily, I'm new also. It seems like everyone is from the east coast. I feel really isolated since I'm from Napa, California. I hope I am doing this all correct...please bear with me. I really enjoy getting my CL every month with so many great ideas. Hope to talk to you all soon, must get back to work, although, I can see I'll be checking in and out of this BB often!

Take care....Penny

Welcome to the board, Penny!
Oh my gosh, I'm welcoming someone now! Ohioan warned me of that...
Last spring my parents and sisters (not me, I was still in school and would have missed important "class" things. Woohoo! no more of those!) went to the Napa Valley for some spa thing when my dad was on business. They said it was so gorgeous. I wish I had been there! Don't feel isolated, I'm sure several of us will just pretend we're there!

pvavricka--

I'll bet there are more members on the BB from California than there are from Idaho! We can be the Northwest/West Coast contingent--all 2 of us.
Wait--we can add peggyg, also a recent junior member; she's from Ketchikan, AK. We can share stories about how beautiful our part of the country is, and how glad we are not to be in a big city (well, I am).

Hi there- I've just posted my second ever thread...(the first one was a month ago), as I am relatively new to the website (viewing for the last month!), and new to the mag (been a subsciber since July). And I absolutely love it. I am 30 years old, married 1 year (on this upcoming Monday!!), and live in Silver Spring, MD. I am excited because a new Fresh Fields just opened two blocks from my home, and I swear I vist at least twice a week if not more!!. I am also a big fan of wine - any thoughts of expanding the discussion on wine in the mag I wonder?

Thanks for starting the introduction thread! I don't feel as much as an outsider now :-)

Welcome Emily and all new folks...I've been here for a little while but don't post much because I can't post at work (darnit!). MrsReber, congratulations and hope all is going very well. I am from NJ originally (but the southern half, near Philly) and now live in Virginia Beach. I love this board. I've received great advices, noted some yummy-looking recipes, and just generally had some good belly laughs at some of the posts! Everyone's been wonderful...thank you all!

Cool...I'm a member! Guess I post more than I thought... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Great topic, Emily! I'm a newbie too--I've visited the CL web site a bunch ever since I discovered it, but just never noticed the "Talk" section until now. Glad I did!

I'm a newlywed too (1 year + a few mos.), and though my mom is a fantastic cook I was foolish in my younger years and didn't ever bother to follow in her footsteps. Now I've been bit by the cooking bug and am making up for lost time--I love all the great advice I've seen so far from everyone on this BB! Thank you and keep up the great postings!

Libby

P.S. Sorry, I'm not from Atlanta... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif I'm a midwestern girl (St. Louis). Any others from my neck of the woods?
