Since this board is full of addicts ... just how addicted are you? How much time do you spend on the board?
Tonight, my computer is slow, I've been over an hour and haven't made it through the first page! Help!!! I need to get some sleep!!

jd,
It's not just your computer that is s l o w!
I'm having the same problem. Well, now time to fess up...the CL BB is my first stop when I log on. I probably spend at least 30 min. checking out all the topics. Or, maybe I just think it's only 30 minutes! I suppose it depends on whether or not I reply. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Now, get some sleep!

Yikes! True confessions. Well...I usually log on to CL 3 times a day, before breakfast, at work and in the evening.

I must confess....and I find this funny! I AM addicted. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif For example, I just got home from my bartending job on Thurs eves and it is now -what 2 something am-! and I check the bb before I go to sleep. Yikes! I've found a group of people (thanks to my sister who introduced me to this board!)who love to prepare food as much as me. Hopefully I can wean myself to checking once a day or maybe a couple times a week! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif Although Kendra at our dinner club mentioned, sometimes now it's hard to keep current. But I'll try.
jd, thanks for the topic!!

One of these days I'll probably get fired for my CL addiction! I don't have a computer at home so I check it at work - usually in the morning (if I'm early) and lunch, and in the evening. I can't control myself!

I'm so addicted that the only way to keep me away from this board would be to put me in a jacket with long sleeves that tie in the back. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif I check the board when I first get to work, then after my first class of the day, then when I get back from class, then just before I go to my next class, then when I get back from it -- always assuming I don't have students dropping by my office, of course (although they've caught me reading messages on a few occasions) -- then when I get home while my dinner is cooking, and then again before I go to bed.

Oh, my goodness, this is serious. I refuse to go back over that and count how many check-ins the above comes to. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif

Obsessively, Phoebe

Valerie, you sound like me! I am usually on at work only. Once I get home, I am too tired and my computer at home is a bit slower! So I usually check first thing, at lunch, and if my afternoon is slow, I sneak back on! I am waiting for them to ban me from the internet!

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being hopelessly addicted, I'd be a 20!!!

I am ashamed by this obsession. I have never been involved in one of htese before - it is fabulous. It has given me a new motivation to cook ALOT!!! I pop in a few times a day...

I am a new addict and I am trying to get help! (Not really) I just wish I knew how to add all of those cute icons throughout my messages like Phoebe does. Can somebody teach me? I am getting ready to start a new job in a couple of weeks and I am afraid I won't be able to check you guys out as much then as I do now. However, we have decided to buy ourselves a home computer for Christmas so I may have to add you to evening routine after that.

Hi. Yes its addictive....but its sooooo good!

Being new to the BB has not stopped me from becoming addicted as well! I have a lot of time on my hands right now at work- so I find myself checking for new posts 4-5 times a day. Some days I even leave the BB open while I check out other sites- makes it easier to get back!

One thing for sure- you can tell when everybody goes to lunch- the number of posts triple!!

Oh, by the way, I sure would like to know how to get these great smilies in my text as well- have not been able to figure that one out yet.

I love this board! I often wonder what I did before I found out about it. I tend to check the BB everyday and often send a great amount of time looking at all the new topics.

Natasha
10-13-2000, 09:22 AM
Depends on the day. Some days (or weeks!) not at all or just once. On weekends I like to spend a bit more time on the board. On weekdays I like to see what s up early in the AM, and again in the evening. The evening is the most relaxed time for me. At most, I usually only check or read maybe 10-20% of the threads because there are sooooo many.

For smilies: when you post a reply, you will see the phrase "Smilies Legend" to the left of the box where you key in the reply. Just click on "Smilies Legend" to find out how to make all kinds of cute smilie icons. Sorry, Phoebe, hope you don't mind that I answered this for you. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hi, my name is Laura and I am a CL Bulletin Board addict. I log on about 4-5 times a day. The only good thing I can say is that I am on about 10 minutes each time so I figure an hour or so out of each day is not that bad. But personally, I blame all of you. If you weren't so darn helpful and amusing I wouldn't have this need for a fix! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I must confess that I too check the board at least 3 times a day. I figure it is a safe addiction thought, it keeps me off the streets and out of the bars. (ha ha)

I go through stages of addition. Was off the board for a while this summer 'cause they kept having some problems. But now I'm on all the time, 'cause I've finally found a bunch of people who love food and cooking as much as I do (and the board is working fairly well, although sometimes it takes a while for my replies to post). I wish I could have you all over for dinner! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif The board is getting super busy now - when you post something and it is not replied to right away, it just flies right down the list. I think that's a testiment to how many of us out there enjoy this board! Cheers, Kendra

I try and check at least once a day. Sometimes, in the evening when I board is slow, I even look at the archives!!! This is the first bulletin board I have ever been very active on, and I love hearing all your ideas, suggestions, and stories! I guess I'm hooked!

Connie
10-13-2000, 01:09 PM
I, too, am hooked! I have weaned myself a little, though. I used to check in when I got to work early, at lunch, and in the evening. Now it's usually only at lunch or in the evening. I'm trying to get to once or twice a week, but I'm not sure how that will work. This is the first board I've ever been on also, and I love it! But I'm finding that I don't have as much time to cook. I told my sister about this, but warned her about my addiction. She didn't listen! Sorry, Jeanne!

I would think the number of responses to this thread in such a short period of time would indicate how addicted we all are!!

All I can say is, it's a good thing that nobody at work can see my computer!! I have a job that comes and goes in spurts and during the down times, I love to check in and read the board. Addicted? You bet and proud of it too. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Like many of you... I am at work playing on the BB. So much for productivity.

I usually pop in 3-4 times during the day just to see what's new - it's such a busy board that if you don't you're bound to miss something. Then when I get home I usually spend 30-45 minutes of "quality" board reading/replying.

It's funny though, my favorite thing to do when I'm eating my breakfast is log on and see what I missed while I was sleeping!

Kerri
10-13-2000, 02:08 PM
I also check several times a day because I have a lot of small chunks of time at work. It makes it more of a challenge to eat right because all the food/recipes/comments people post make me soooooo hungry!!!!! Does anyone else have this problem?

BernK

I get very addicted to it when my boss is away, as he will be for the next five weeks. I just leave it running and reload every few minutes. When he is here I usually only get to it once a day.

Addicted? Who me? Does checking every 30 minutes and then getting very drepressed because nothing new has shown up sound like an addiction or maybe when the BB is not acting properly and I immidiately e-mail CL asking them to fix it ( last one suggested they find a better server-not too demanding, eh?). My kids have a day off today and this is the first chance I've had to get on and now I'm sure I missed something great! Addicted-not me!

Oh, I am another CL bboard-junkie! This is the best kind of addiction to have in my opinion! I've gleaned soooo much here in the way of tips and recipes. My family does benefit from my frequesnt trips to the bboard!

I hit the board every night when I get home from work. I check my mail and then go right to the board. If I have a night I have to miss I usually spend that much more time on it the next day. You have to admit, it's the best kind of addiction. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Karen W -

I'm with you! Do I think it's a problem that I log on first thing, go surfing for a few minutes, and then come back to see if I've missed anything? Do I have a problem if I read threads that I'm not really interested in? No, I don't have a problem! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

The people in my CL group are CONVINCED that I carry around a laptop constantly just to be informed - I talk up this BB that much!

Shirley

p.s. Angela - I've come out of the closet with my problem, where are you? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Surely I am not the only person who has this BB as their homepage! I don't even like to "waste" time going thru my list of favorites or links. I am not just an addict, I am a lazy addict.

Iqueen,

When you post a reply or topic look over to the left of where you print. It has something printed: Smiles Legend (it's underlined). Click on it and you'll see lots of options! Very fun!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif It tells you what to type and it'll show you what face you'll get!!

I almost forgot to ask you to check my question regarding your expertise on Italian cooking in my Cucina thread!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I'm pretty new too, but I am _completely_ addicted. I check it at work, since I'm in front of the computer all day and I check it all the time. Sometimes I just leave the window open and read it between phone calls http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Kendra, I think we would all have a great dinner party! Count me in!

My name is Andrea and I'm a BB-aholic! I check in at least 1 or 2 times a day, roughly 30 minutes at a time (perhaps more... I've never timed myself). I hate to miss more than a day or two because postings fly so quickly, there's a lot of catching up to do. Though the catching up part is just as enjoyable! It still amazes me how quickly people respond. Everyone is so helpful, too.

Hey, I just made Member status! Yeah! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I love the board, my husband watches TV at night and I get on my laptop and check out the CL board. It's my favorite site. Wouldn't we all be good in a CL commercial?

Pat

I am totally addicted. I do not work outside the home, and most days I check the board each morning before I begin my day's activities. However, some days this is not practical and I keep trying to find time all day to check out the BB.

I also travel with my husband on business trips; and if he is gone several days at a time and I cannot get computer access, I go into withdrawal. When we return, the first chance I get I spend hours catching up on what was posted while I was gone.

This is a very informative and helpful site for someone who loves to cook, loves to look at pictures of food, loves to eat, well--just anything to do with food.

The "How addicted are you?" Poll was posted right around when I first discovered the board, but I just went back and read the whole thing, and couldn't stop laughing! I have to say, I quite fit in the bunch! My boyfriend thought it was ridiculous that I made member within about 5 days (no kidding) because I visited the board so often http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif . The funniest one, though, was that food girl made CL her home page...she's not the only one! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif I figured it was pointless to log on each time and go to Yahoo! when the only site I wanted to visit was this one, so I just set it as the default! But I have to agree, it's the best kind of obsession, no?

emilycat--

Thanks for bringing this thread up again. It was first posted 2 days before I joined the board, and so I missed the entire thing. Of course that gave me 2 weeks to find out just how addicted I am: first thing in the morning (well, first thing is the paper and coffee; then after I have walked the dog and taken the kids to school, I take a few--or more--minutes before I start to get ready for work to check in. I'm in the Pacific time zone, so there's usually a number of posts even early in the morning). I don't read at work because I don't have anywhere near enough will power to take just a few minutes to look. The bb is the first thing I want to look at when I get home, and at least once more before I go to bed--just to keep up, you know. My biggest problem is that my husband's computer is the one with the direct internet connection, so I have to work around his addiction to flying airplanes on the computer.

Although I haven't made the bb my home page, I did move it to the top of the favorites list so I don't have to scroll down at all. It's so nice to chat with like-minded people, even though I tend to lurk more than chat. I really like reading about what everyone is cooking and what they liked and how they changed the recipe. I spent the weekend going back and forth between the computer, the Complete CL Cookbook, and a stack of back issues of CL, before deciding on making the creamy chicken casserole for dinner last night (my husband really liked it), and making a list of recipes to try in the next week or so. I have kalamata olives and feta cheese in the icebox after making the Greek Couscous last week (wonderful even leftover cold for lunch), so was looking for something to use those (pizza and/or shrimp look like good bets).

Then, having exhausted the current bb, it occurred to me that on slow days when nothing much is coming in I could just go back to the beginning of the archives and do a page at a time to get a quick fix.

So, like the rest of you, I really don't have a problem, do I? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I am totally addicted! I love it here and must say I am here most of the day - this is the best place - you are all so helpful and knowledgeable. Have visited a couple of other sites but don't hold a candle to you 'guys' - I've even (when I wake up in the middle of the night) come down here and turn this thing on to see what has happened since I went to bed! I just love it, love it, etc.! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
