OK. Sorry to seem remedial here, but how do I search for 2 words together in previous posts.
The example I need to search for is 'Green Bean Casserole' so that I can try to find a healhy-ish version of my husband's Thanksgiving favorite. I feel like I've seen something on here but I don't want every recipe with these three words divided up.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Megan

So Gumbeaux, care to share your amazing searching skills with those of us that are "search impaired"? I just did a search for those three words (green bean casserole) and came up with pages and pages of results that included all of those words together and individually. How did you search and make it come up with the threads that only had those three words together

It's much easier when you go to the advanced search, enter in green bean casserole in the search box, and use the pull down menu to select Titles only.

This is one reason why I love it when people write the recipe name in their titles when they are reviewing a recipe - I can never find those recipes that are buried in the weekly menu or muffin threads, for example. :(

I agree! I don't like it when threads are titled "Great recipe to share" or some such because I use the titles only search a lot as well. In addition, that's why it's important to spell a title correctly. In this case if someone wrote "greene bean casserole" it wouldn't come up.

Another search tip is if you're searching for a word that is only three letters (which is too short for the search function) or for something that may appear as a plural use an * to make a wild card. So if I'm looking for apple pie I would search for "apple pie*" (no need to quote in the search though) or if I'm looking for chocolate chip cookies it may be listed as cookie or cookies so I'll search for "chocolate chip cookie*"

HTH :)

I did what leightx said in her post (http://community.cookinglight.com/showpost.php?p=1298580&postcount=4).

This is a very good point.

Thanks! I didn't know you could do that. I too wish there was a way to search for those recipes that are buried within a thread. At the moment it is a case of get 'em while you see 'em, because you might not find the recipe later on. All I can say is thank goodness for the recipe import button on MC and my ever growing cookbook in MC called "Recipes to Try" :D

You can search within threads: just select "show results as posts".

And I second the appreciation for clearly titled threads. "ISO: Game hens with pomegranate glaze" is more helpful for later searches than "I used to have a recipe..."

Canice, I understand that you can choose "show results as posts". What I meant, and I am sorry if this wasn't clear, was that I want to see only posts that mention green bean casserole. I do not want to see any that mention green, bean, or casserole separately. I think that this has been discussed many times before but the fact is that the search function isn't going to change any time soon. It was mentioned before that to make the search function here more user friendly they would have to incorporate the "Boolean" system. By doing so we would be able to enter a search for green and bean and casserole and get only those posts that have the entire combination of these words.

Don't get me wrong, I love this place and I am grateful for its existence, but the search function sometimes drives me mad :D

Another way to search is to use Google's advanced feature (click "advanced search" beside the basic google search box). Set your parameters to

1. Find results "with the exact phrase" and type in green bean casserole

2. In the Domain section, limit results to "Only return results from the site or domain" and then type or paste in the web address you want to search, such as:
community.cookinglight.com

Google works so much better. :)

Works like a charm! Thanks PamN. I did try a google search before but I entered cooking light.com rather than community.cookinglight.com and it didn' work so well.
