I would like to add some more storage to a small walk-in closet. Basically to store some extra pantry goods, some dishes etc that I don't use often.

I was thinking of getting one of those metal "book shelves" similar to the ones that the sell at the Container Store, or perhaps shelves. I do like the idea of a free standing piece since no problem moving.

Ironically, I was just reading in the paper (the "Ask Martha" part), and one of the quesotions was regarding vinyl-coated wire shelves that the person said was beginning to smell. And, Martha said it was outgassing, and ventilation might help.

Any suggestions on what to buy and where would be great.

Thanks,

I have seen this one recently at Costco. It is $69.99.

They have these shelves for closets that I love. you put in 1 horizontal post near the top of the closet. and then hang vertical posts off of it that are also screwed into the wall.

The shelves have brackets that attach into the vertical posts. you can move them around however you want. That is what I did in my library closet. It works really well. And holds a lot of weight really well. Plus every shelf can be as tall or as short as I want it.

I think it is called Closetmaid.

ETA: You find them in the closet organization part of Lowe's or in the garage organization. I actually like the garage better. because they are black instead of white and I am not a fan of white.

Lowe's, Home Depot, and Target (among others) sell ClosetMaid. Target has a smaller selection, and you don't have the option of custom-cut sizes, etc. but they have some basic units. Some require that you screw a track system into the wall, others are more tension rod-type installations. Target also has some ClosetMaid and their brand freestanding units. The home improvement stores also sell more upscale units similar to California Closets.
