Friedman Paul Erhardt, better known as Chef Tell, one of the very first celebrity chefs (and he really was a chef, becoming a Master Chef before age 30) has died at the very young age of 63.
He became famous in the 70's and 80's and was quite a character. In fact, his wife insists that he was the inspiration for the Muppets' Swedish Chef. :)

I have seen him many times in person, most inspiring person. So sad to hear of his demise.

How sad...he was a wonderful man...When we lived in PA, Bryan and I had the pleasure of eating at his restaurant, The Manor House, along the Delaware River...it was on Easter, and he came over to chat with us...one of those memorable dinners you never forget.

:( Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. He was young.

I still make a chicken dish DW and I saw him make on some local TV show here in San Diego. Wish I could recall the name of the show.
ETA: It was called PM Magazine. Google is my friend. ;)

Chef Tell was the first chef I ever watched on a regular basis (and it was on PM Magazine). I can still hear his signoff in his thick german accent, "Bye now, I'll see you."
