Personally, I'm fascinated at the triumvirate of Zsa Zsa Gabor, Mickey Rooney, and Elizabeth Taylor. Between all of them, there are 25 marriages ...

But this is beside the point. Here are the current 2007 standings:

Thanks for posting who we got points for.....I was pretty sure I was still at zero and couldn't remember who I had picked that would give me 21 points!

Did Norman Mailer get mentioned? He died on November 10.

Nope. His name would have fit in between Nicole Richie and OJ Simpson. Both newsworthy, but not dead.

I don't suppose anyone had Ira Levin?

Nope. Surrounding entries would be Ingmar Bergman and JD Salinger. Were you hoping you could leave me as one of the few remaining zeroes?

My goal is to be the only one left at the end with zero. I think I should win something for that.;)

Thank you for the update! I thought of our Pool when Norman Mailer died the other day.

So is there any interest in doing another pool for 2008?

If so, I'll throw out one suggestion for a possible change to the rules, and the group can think/discuss. I do a death pool on another board and the points are 120 minus age at death. That allows for people who are over 100 (like Brooke Astor) to be listed and still generate some points. Just a thought.

I'd be interested in participating! '07 was my first year in the pool.

The above change sounds OK to me; it doesn't change anything except allow you to get points for people over 100, which I think is fine.

Although I don't know exactly how you could do it, and it would make calculations more complicated -- it would be interesting to weight the points depending on how many people had a specific person on their list. For example, if only two participants had someone on their list, they would get more points than if twenty participants had that person on their list. But it would definitely increase the complexity for the point-keeper.

But, sure, I'd like to participate.

Mike, the "originality" concept of a list appeals to me too, but as someone who's been keeping score, I'd suggest the idea of PMing the list to a list keeper instead of adding a weighted-points system.

Subtracting an age from 120 instead of 100 is an easy change. I'd say that it makes things easier, but you know, I've been holding out for some news on Fidel Castro, because I thought THAT was an easy call ...

BTW, I have the current totals for the year -- I'll post them on a new thread that calls for participants for the upcoming year, too.

I still maintain that he IS dead, we're just being kept in the dark about it. I thought for sure that if no one else, HE would put me on the board for 2007. No such luck.

I am in for 2008, and I'm fine with the 120-points change but don't really care for the idea of the "weighted" points system based on how many people do or don't have a person on their list. I just don't think it's necessary. Plus, if we were to implement that, the lists would have to be kept private until the game officially starts.

DH says anyone who makes my 2008 list should be thrilled, because they know they'll live at least one more year.

I wasn't really thinking about the privacy of a list. (I actually don't think I looked at anyone else's list when I came up with mine.) What I was thinking was: suppose someone decided to be really "out there" and put someone like -- no, I'm not going to name someone or there'll probably be flaming! -- one of the young teen celebrities on their list. Someone that no one else would "waste" one of their 20 people on. It would be interesting to have that "outlandish" guess weighted more than, say, Fidel Castro.

But it would greatly increase the complexity of the score-keeping. And since I'm happy with someone else doing the score keeping, let's leave it the way it is! ;)

These were on my 2007 list that some might consider to be "out there", not because I thought I'd get more points, just due to their lifestyle.

Mary-Kate Olsen
Keith Urban
Nicole Richie
Linday Lohan

p.s. i also had anna nicole smith :o

Yeah, those were some of the ones I was thinking about in my post, AzAnne, but I decided not to name them! ;)
