View Full Version : Just wondering who you all are out there in bullitin board land...

I thought this might be fun. You know how in chat rooms they always do the "age/sex" introductions - why don't we do that here with your real name, your city & state.
It's funny, I have "mental" pictures of everyone based on their screen names (As I'm sure you all do with as much time as we spend together)and I was just wondering who you really are. The profiles are so limited.
Anyway, I'll start. Maybe you'll find someone on the board who is literally right next door!

Thanks in advance!!!!

As you can probably tell by my screen name that the first "Carolyn" has already been used. HeeHee. I love this board and I have been eavesdropping for a few days, without posting, but it does not take long to get involved. You people are great!!! It is nice to share a little more personal information with everyone.
My name is Cheryl (my name was taken for the bb so, I borrowed the dog's). I am 42, have been married for 4 years and have a 2yr old son. I am a System Analyst and live in South Windsor, CT.

Hi all http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I'm relatively new to the BB...nice to meet you all!
My name is Michelle. I'm 30 (31 next month), married for 1 & 1/2 years to a wonderful guy (he just built me a house http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif), and I live in Bellevue, WA (East of Seattle). We have two cats, Latte' and Buster, and are planning to have a baby next year. I'm a Business Systems Analyst with a medical device manufacturer...until next year when they close our office down. I plan to take a year off to be a full time mommy.
Cheryl...I went vegetarian at the beginning of the year & I don't even miss the meat...definitely don't miss touching it to cook it...ick http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif My husband has been really open to all of my cooking experimentation, too. One of my favorite cookbooks is Garden Cuisine by Paul Wenner (the inventor of the Gardenburger). I have some great recipes from this book and others. I'd be happy to share with you via email if you're interested.
Lana...great to see another Washington girl on the BB! Do you ever go to the PCC markets in the area? They have lots of organic foods and the one near me in Issaquah has a great atmosphere. I've taken a couple of cooking classes there and loved it!

Hi, everyone! I'm Phoebe. Pleased to meetcha. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
I'm 58 years old (59 next month, and I could swear I was just 33 last week!) Unmarried, with a 12-year old Himalayan cat, CoCo.
I live in Columbus, Ohio. (Hi, Mary Lou! I zipped by you in the store today, but you were busy and I was rushing.) I'm originally from New York City (Bronx), by way of all over the place in the Air Force -- Wyoming, Mississippi, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, Texas, etc. -- and a three-year teaching stop in Baton Rouge, LA.
College professor, English, mostly medieval and Renaissance literature (Shakespeare and those guys). I've also been an editor and database developer.
I've been a vegetarian for about a year, but I've always loved "healthy" food, especially vegetables and fruits, beans and grains. That's why I like magazines like CL.
And finally... I shouldn't even be posting this, since I have a gazillion papers still to grade this weekend, but like everyone else here, I'm addicted to this BB. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Cheers, Phoebe
I'm Louise, 39. I live in just outside of Washington DC in Virginia. I'm a freelance writer/editor - a new career after playing the rat race in the corporate world. I'm single, two cats, have been subscribing to CL since 1993 and still have all the magazines (I know - I should get the Annual Cookbooks!). Nice to meet everyone!

Good Morning from another Susan!
Great idea! I have been receiving Cooking Light magazines for about 10 years and a reader but not participator of this bb and the two previous boards. It took me a long time to start to post replies but I finally did! I am 45 (oh no, when did that happen?). My wonderful husband of 10 years and I now live in Reading PA, northwest of Philadelphia. Teaching for my 24th year and still loving it! Was a vegetarian for over ten years but when we were commuting to and from work 2-2 1/2 hours a day, I found that I wasn't eating properly at all! When you leave at 5:30 AM and return home after 7:00 PM, it is hard to plan/execute meals (thank you George Foreman Grill!). Now, I eat one small token meat/protein a day. Wish that I could go back, but maybe some day soon... It is great meeting all of you, thanks for sharing!
Sue(Mamsue) The ferret is TOO FUNNY! And cute!

That explains why you're all much more savvy at handling computers .

This is such a great bunch. Thanks for all the help you've given me with cooking ideas and computer tips .

Hi I'm Sandy, 48 yrs old (for a bit longer!)
I'm from Toledo, Ohio. Lived here all my life, but have traveled quite a bit. Divorced and living with my sweet little one and a half year old puppy, Bailey (parti color Cocker), clown dog. I am a great fan of the arts, love to read, love to travel, love to cook, love to eat, and wish I had more time for all of the above. I must add that I have learned so much from this board that it has not only greatly improved how I cook, but the diversity of what I cook.

My husband is at work so I finally have some quality uninterupted time for the BB.
Since I was the one who started this thread, I thought I would share some of your virtual identies (as they exist in my head). Some of them are pretty funny now that I know who you really are.
Others of you I have have misc. chit chat.
Kentgirl - I always picture you as colleen, from Survivor, running around with her superhero cape. The thought process here.. Kent to Clark Kent to superman to Collen playing superman.
Kwormann - My best friend lives in The Woodlands. I've been there once. What a nice area. Whenever I see your posts, I always think of my 8th or 9th grade science project when I had earthworms live in clear geletin. Since that is all they ate they inturn became clear - you could see all of their insides!
Joyce - my husband is a police officer and retires in 8 years. We are planning to retire to NC, probably mid-state somewhere. I hope to start regular vacationing there so we can get a feel for the state and narrow down an area. Glad to hear you like it.
Bijoux22 - who would have guessed your real name wa Cheryl. I always see you wearing a cute little french hat while you are at the computer.
Colleen - WOW, another person from upstate NY. I was beginning to think I was all alone. How long ago were you at IC?
SClementson - yeah! someone else not planning kids. I don't know about you but I'm having way to much fun to grow up and be forced to be responsible.
Mamasue - you are always Aunt Jemima to me. Must be my growing up in Mississippi that Mamasue makes me think of that. I must say though - you are a totally hip Aunt Jemima. I just love your posts and your graphics! I also had a cat named Kitty Kitty.
Karen from VA - I've been meaning to thank you for your help with the Almond Crusted Pork Tenderloin & Conserve. It turned out great - totally impressed my mother! Did your Conserve have kind of a bite to it? Would that have come from the regular ginger? That would be the only thing I change next time. Hooray for you waling/running 6 miles a day - you should talk to my mom - maybe you could inspire her.
Ginny177 - you go girl http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Sneezles - I think you are my husbands perfect soul mate - you have horses, cows a bull AND you own a beer joint. We live 1 mile from Route 13 on a dead end street and so far I have lived through turkeys and now chickens in the back yard. I think he was a farmer in a previous life. All he keeps saying is that when we nmove to NC in 8 years he wants to buy 100 acres and get a bunch of farm animals. Let's all sing together "Green acres is the place to be.. farm living is the life for me... (haha)
SandyDee - I always picture the cast from Grease when ever I see your posts and usually start humming Greased Lightening.
Thanks for letting me share.

Christine: Your "takes" and comments to everyone are interesting and appreciated. Funny how we form pictures in our minds. To answer your question, my conserve had a bit of a pleasant tang to it, but I wouldn't call it a bite. I would think maybe you should double check the amounts you used of white WINE vinegar (which I think is more mellow than just plain white vinegar). Also, check the amount of red pepper that you used. I don't think the ground ginger(if you used the correct amount) would produce a "bite". I'm glad your mom was impressed.

OK, I hope it's still not too late to introduce myself. I'm Karen, 36 y.o., from Brookfield, CT (formerly lived in Atlanta, GA, Pittsburgh, PA, Madison, WI, and born/raised in Milwaukee, WI). I have been happily married for almost 6 years (next month) to a wonderful hubby who would rather eat veggies than meat(we're not vegetarians, though) and loves when I experiment on him!
We have 3 beautiful children-2 boys, ages 4 and 3, and a little girl(the princess!)-15 months. Currently, I stay at home with the kids(just stopped nursing the princess last month.) I may eventually go back to work part time(who knows??). I'm an anesthesiologist. I can't remember when I started getting CL ?'96 or '97, but just discovered the BB over the summer. Now I'm a full fledged addict. I got my mother hooked on the magazine, too. But she's still in the dark ages-has no computer to access the BB.
Anyway I love to eat tasty, healthy foods, and cooking can be very relaxing for me when the kids give me the time! Or I just let them help me. That's always a treatment(oh, I mean treat, of course!!!). Now if I can only get them to eat all these nice things!
Oh well, kids will be kids!
Nice meeting everyone,
Karen

I am another 36 year old Karen from Houston.I am a stay-at-home mom for now. I have been addicted to the BB for about 4-5 months now, and a CL subscriber since '97. I am married with two kids, 9 and 2. My mom is a CL fan and a BB reader. HI, Mom! Any other Mother/daughter teams out there? We often will call each other quoting issues and pages numbers. I love this BB, it is so much fun, and everyone is so helpful, and kind(unlike many other BB's) Nice to put real names with usner names we all know.

I posted Friday, before going home from work, and am just now reading my post. I apparently left out a few key and important words. What i meant to say was if noone on this fabulous board had the answer to a question Miss Stacy could help. Sorry for how it sounds, not at all like I intended.

I'm Gail...49...from Bethlehem, PA...the Christmas City...born and raised and still living there...Married to a wonderful man from Western Australia...my 22-year-old son Greg lives and works in Miami, FLA...my 10-year-old step-son lives in Australia...
Reading this board when I come home late from the hospital is my stress reliever!!!

Gabby - Bethlehem, PA!!!! I went to school at Lehigh and lived there while my husband earned his undergraduate and graduate degree there. Not native Pennsylvanians, but we still consider it home! I'd love to get back to the Lehigh Valley some day! Have you ever been to Hack's? A little greasy spoon joint with the BEST French toast and home-fried potatoes. Well, I could go on and on waxing nostalgic...
I'm a stay-at-home-mom to two boys, 6 and 3. I currently live in Angola, Indiana, but have lived sort of all over - a native New Yorker who has also lived in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas. Our goal is to get back toward the East Coast because that is where our hearts are. Having been out west for 7 years now, I miss the beach and mountains - even a few good hills would be nice!! I enjoy cooking, gardening, and tinkering on the computer.
Nice to "meet" everyone!

Hi, I'm Dorothy. I'm 50, married 27 yrs, have one daughter who will turn 21 this month--she's a college student. We've lived in Miami Beach for 9 yrs. We're originally from St. Louis but have lived in Illinois, Maine & California.
To Penny & Ann: hang in there with those teenagers. They do come back to you. Our daughter actually requests our presence at a local gathering place on Friday nights & even invites her friends to join us. (Could it be that she actually thinks her parents are cool?)

I forgot to mention the two pigs my 16 yr old is raising for his FFA project-tried to convince him to name one Arnold but he failed to see the humor in it...guess Green Acres isn't on anymore!
We had two chickens and they were a mess so I gave them away to a friend's mother who has them in a pen so they don't lay eggs everywhere anymore. We also have 15 guinea hens but they moved to the next neighbors because they didn't like the dogs-they come to visit once in awhile but never stay for long!

Great topic! My name is Liane and I'm 33 and married for the last year and a half to the original couch potato (hates to try anything new!). Originally from New Jersey, we have been in sunny Florida for the past four years and love it. I love to bake and try new things (mostly on the weekends). We've got a houseful of pets - a golden retriever and two cats but no kids...yet. I'm mostly a spectator to the BB but love to read the posts and get great new recipes.

Emily, congrats on qualifying for the marathon.
My name is Elizabeth (Most of my friends call me Liz) and I am 27 and live in Austin, Tx. I have a degree in interior design and work as a design consultant for a large homebuilder. I'm single, but have been dating my boyfriend for 2 1/2 years. He likes it when I cook for him, rare that it is. I prefer to read the recipes more than cook them. Mostly because I'm too tired to cook after work and my kitchen is so tiny is makes me crazy to cook elaborate things in it.
I have been a CL subscriber since May of 99. I haven't posted too much here (I think I might be up to post #40 now), but I love to read everyone's reviews and thoughts on the various recipes. Everyone is so helpful and it's nice to know that I'm not the only one that doesn't know what/how to cook things.
My sister also likes to cook, so I gave her a subscription to CL for Christmas last year. She in turn gave one to my mom for Mother's Day.
Hey...count me in as an Ustate NY'er ! The town I am orginally from (and where my Mom still lives is about 33 miles south ( towards Owego) from Ithaca !! I used to work at one of the community banks on the Commons !! !!

My dream someday is to live 6 months of the year somewhere around Ithaca and the other 6 months somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Carting a troop of pets back and forth along with me.

Hey everyone, as you can tell, my name is
sherry.
I am 27 (28 in a few weeks)
Married to a great husband and dad to our two boys 2 and 8 mo.
I have subscribed to CL 3-4 yrs, but bought miscellaneous issues starting in 1994
I love to cook, or maybe it is just the collection of recipes I love best, because there seem to be more than I can ever make!
Live in KC
Have a cute basset hound that eats all my cooking disasters.
Love to participate on the BB and have only been on since Late summer. I can't believe I never noticed it before.
Anyway, hello and thanks to all of you for your great enthusiam and motivation to keep cooking!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Well, I'm yet another Susan on this board! I live in central PA (State College) and have been married 6 years now. We have a 4 1/2 year old daughter, 2 big fat basset hounds, and a guinea pig that joined the family this summer.
I work part time in communications at PSU, and also do consulting work for my old company. I really got into cooking when my daughter was old enough to have "real" food. I decided it was time to get domestic! So now I love to cook and have been getting CL for a little over 3 years.

I am almost 29 on 12/30--another tax write off!! I have subsribed for about a year I guess and surfed this BB for maybe 9 months but don't post much..the computer was at my sisters house but now it's here...it's dangerous! Not married, no SO, no pets pretty boring, huh? Job hunting for that dream job...might be test driving boats for a living soon!!

11-12-2000, 05:25 PM
Hi,
My name is Melina. I'm not married, I live in Beverly Hills, California and I'm originally from New York. More specifically from the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn. Are there any Brooklynites out there? I long to hear Brooklynese again. I've been living in California for about twenty-five years, and I still get sooo homesick. I love to cook and to have big, mostly casual dinners. I am the family "Aunt" to whom all the family comes to eat. We're Italian and there's usually one in every family. I learned it from my Aunt and I love the position!

Wow, so many responses here, all very interesting. My name is Susan and some of you probably know me from the pregnancy posts. I have been married to my wonderful and exceptionally cute husband, Kyle, for one year and almost two months. We are almost three months pregnant and just heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time on Friday morning (our first baby). I will be 31 on Thanksgiving Day. We have two dogs and one cat.
Melina- my whole family is from Brooklyn! My grandmother passed away in September and I was there for three days- not very happy circumstances, but there is nothing like a Brooklyn Italian bakery- where else can you get all those great cookies and cannolis? And where else can you get an egg cream? It's funny, the folks here in NJ don't even know what an egg cream is. Let us not forget the awesome bagels and pizza! We ate dinner one night at a very good Italian place - my grandmother was in Mamonidies nursing home for a few years so we used to go to this great bakery nearby. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. When we were younger, we'd visit my grandmother and we'd walk about 20 blocks with her to do her shopping- stopping at the butcher, the pet store, the fish store. They have a store for everything! My mom still misses it there. She grew up in Brooklyn and my parents didn't move to NJ with us until 1973.
As for NH- my dad lived in Hollis for 11 years. He owned a printing shop in Nashua and my little half brother and sister attended school there. They just moved to Scotsdale AZ about a year and a half ago. So beautiful in NH, though. I sure will miss his house there!

Hi! My name is Susan too...no, just kidding. It's Kristi. I'm 31 married for 5 1/2 years to an awesome man and we have two boys--or monkeys as we call them, an almost five year old and 16 month old. We just moved to Rhode Island from NH. I really like Rhode Island but we had lived in NH our whole lives, so it's hard. I am an identical twin, my husband is a fraternal twin. I have always liked to cook. As a young, single "chick", I always cooked for my roommates (they would do dishes!)I find cooking very relaxing. I am a projects manager for a really small consulting firm here in RI and I just trained for and completed my first (and probably last!) marathon in Dublin for the Leukemia Society's Team in Training. I really enjoy running and weight lifting when I find time. I am also planning on running in the Thanksgiving Day 5 miler in Concord, NH that is mentioned in one of the CL stories this month. I love to read fiction, write and have a shameful addiction to Buffy the Vampire Slayer on tv...yes, I KNOW how it makes me sound! I have been on the boards since sometime this summer and really enjoy hearing the reviews of recipes and count on this bunch to help me figure out those dilemmas that seem to occur in every kitchen....

I am more of a baker than a cook, but I'm working on it.
This is SO COOL!! Rachelle, the website was wonderful, as I was thinking it would be great if we all had pictures to go with the names. Your daughter is just beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Hi Everyone!
After a 3-day weekend without a computer, this is a great way to start a new work week!
My name is Wendy, and am a native Southern Californian. I just turned 41 last week although there are days that I feel no older than 15!
I am single and have a wonderful boyfriend named Mark who lives on his sailboat. We met for the first time when I was 15 and he was 17. We both liked each other back then but didn't think that the other was interested.
About 2 years ago we met again at a party and 6 months later we got together and have been together for 1 1/2 years. Sometimes it is worth the wait! I have no children but I have a 3 year old cockatiel named Cordelia who is child enough for me.
I work in personnel (Information & Computer Science dept)at a local university and make arrangements for our many visiting scholars. I get to meet people from all over the world, but I have been having fantasies about becoming a caterer!
I have only been subscribing to CL since May and have been on the bb since August. I found you all when I was looking for a dinner club and have been hooked ever since.
This is a great thread as it helps to put more of an identity behind the posts!
Have a great week!
Wendy
Awesome Idea! I'm Beverly, 35, married with no kids and none planned. Those of us who don't plan for kids do seem alone sometimes, it's nice to know there are others out there. Currently live in Northern Virginia, before that was San Diego, before that Naples Italy, before that, here in VA before that, Hawaii, met hubby in Key West Florida. Hubby is Marine and I was Navy. I'm a starving artist who may go back to school for BA or MA in art history if we sit still long enough. Currently painting fun stuff in the house and planning this year's christmas card.

Hi. My name is Gaye. I live in Columbia, SC where I am a part-time grant writer for a university and also a freelance writer. I have been married for 15 years to a great guy and have two sons, 12 and 7. I have been receiving CL for about 16 months (a fabulous gift from my sister!) but only discovered the bulletin boards a few weeks ago. I only wish I had more time to browse through the recipes and messages that are posted.
I finally got a chance to read though this wonderful thread. It's neat to hear more about all of you out there!
I'm 39 (almost ready to hit the big 40!) and live in Iowa after moving here from near Indy. I'm married and have three daughters, 8, 6 and 8 months (too bad your 3 sons aren't a bit younger Sneezles!). We have a wonderful golden retriever and multiple fish. I'm a nurse but work very part-time and spend the rest of my time playing with my little ones (or hanging out on this board!). I've subscribed to CL for hmmm...maybe 5 years? Found this BB in Sept. Now, as are many of us, totally hooked!!!!
Hello everyone! I love the fact that there are so many pet owners on this board!
I'm Julie, 29, live in Montreal. I'm a nurse and have 2 awesome cats, Saffron and Hunter.
Nice to meet you all!

Hi, I'm Barbara (surprise). I'm 43 years old, married 17 years, with a 13-year-old daughter (like you who've previously posted with teenagers, the older she gets, the dumber I get). Also have two guinea pigs, Brownie and Reeses (like the peanut butter cups, she's black and caramel-colored). I'm a medical writer at a pharmaceutical company; live in Verona, NJ. Gabbyh and lindrusso, I went to Lafayette College in the Lehigh Valley. Jodi, I was born in Whippany (Morris County); my brother lives in the DC area. MrsReber, my husband (born and raised in NJ) loves egg creams and makes them regularly. Nice to meet you all! I've subscribed to CL from 1987, with some breaks in between. Finally figured out you actually had to cook the recipes, not just read them.

Christine--I'll just echo all the other posts and say what a bright idea this was! I've loved reading about all of you CL "poster children"... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Here's the scoop on me-
-My name is Libby
-I live in St. Louis, MO (I haven't seen any other BB members who live here yet, but maybe there are more of you out there...)
-I'm 29 years old
-Married a little over a year to Todd, the love of my life--the cutest, wittiest, smartest, most musically talented man I know (OK I'm a little biased)
-No kids yet, but we're practicing http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
-1 step-dog, Seal--a beautiful miniature American Eskimo who has absolutely endeared herself to me
-I work as an account executive at an advertising & sales promotion agency--a totally fun & creative environment
-Am a novice cook (decided to learn when I got married) but thanks to CL and all of you, am getting better every day!
-Oh, and of course... my favorite athletic activity is inline skating! Have done some races but after getting married (to a non-skater, his only downside) am going back to less competitive skating. Can't give up my 5 wheelers, though!
Thanks again to all of you for making me feel so welcome and at home on this BB!

I've been watching this all day and love this post! My name is Heather, I'm 39 I've lived in the Atlanta area for 15 years and was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area. I've subscribed to Gourmet for about 20 years and have been newly reintroduced to Cooking Light in the last two. I am married (12 years this Oct) to a taxidermist and have two cats and a dog, Scooter, Oscar and Chipper (the sweetest dog in the world).
YIPEEE!! This is now the longest running thread on the board http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Still wish we could post pictures, but it is great that we can all know a little more about each other.BTW, I have a parakeet named TQ. I didn't want anyone to think I was petless!!haha

What a great idea! I too am just checking everything out after a three day weekend.
As for me, my name is (obviously) Valerie. I am 28 years old and live in Arlington, VA (seems like there are a few DC area people around the BB). I have two cats - Dakota and Crazy Horse (don't even ask!). I have been dating the most wonderful man (Jeff) for a little over a year and a half. I am originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan (little known DC statistic - 70 percent of the people who live here are not from here!). I work in public relations for the airline industry (please don't beat me up when you read that!). I used to be vegetarian, but began eating fish and poultry about six months ago. I could go on and on...but, it's somebody else's turn!

Wow! I miss one day of perusing the BB and it takes me 10 minutes to catch up on this one thread http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Emilycat - I'm guessing your coz has a bit of $$$...on Lake WA isn't a cheap area. We're not close to the water, nor do we have a view of it...we actually have a nice view of the chia-car (yes, a stationwagon with grass all over it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif) next door. We live a hot second off of I-90 and love the location. My husband wants to build another house soon, farther north...I told him to have fun, I'm not moving for about 20 years http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

mommywannabe,
I love your area...I almost went to school at U of W; but Carolina won out because it was closer. I absolutely want to live in the Pacific Northwest one day...I just think it's one of the greatest parts of the country.
About my cousin...have you ever been to any of the Anthony's restaurants? I went to one of the openings, I think one is called Pier 66? And Chinook's and Confetti's? Yeah, those are all his. Hmm...too bad I don't have any of those entrepreneurial genes. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

This has been so much fun to read about everybody. I'm going to print all your profiles, keep them by my computer, and refer to them often. I'll probably end up pasting them in Word and alphabetizing them. I have this "oganizing" compulsion. Just love to organize things.
Christine, I hooted with laughter when I read about how you pictured me as Colleen from Survivor. When my son was little, Superman was his favorite character. Always ran around the house with his red cape. He's 21 now and still runs around with his red cape (just kidding)!
As I read through these posts, I was hoping to find somebody from Utah or New Jersey. Why? Utah, because I was born there. And New Jersey, because my son goes to college at Princeton. Other than Liane, who was originally from New Jersey, didn't find one person from either of those two places. But I was glad to find many people who live in my neck of the woods - Washington! I just love the Pacific Northwest.
Nice to meet you all!!

Wow! I also come back to my trusty 'puter after a few days off and find a 95 post thread! I sure have enjoyed reading what everyone has written, it's funny how we've all got pictures in our heads of what everyone looks like... wonder if any of us are right???
Anyway... I'm Kim - Kelly is my last name. Much as I hate to admit this, it was a typo that there wasn't a space between the two!
My husband and I are both native Californians - currently living in San Diego. I'm a stay at home mom to two kids, 4 and 1. We have two cats... similar to someone who posted in another post (for the life of me I can't remember who!), one is 22 lbs and my other one is 6 lbs! They both seem to eat the same amount, but man, when the big one jumps on the bed it feels like an earthquake. We lost our loving Golden Retriever a while back and just haven't been able to replace her. When the kids get older I think we will get another. (Somehow toys everywhere and a new puppy don't seem to mix!)
I have to say how much I enjoy coming to this board. Everyone has been so nice and helpful! Wish we could all meet for a nice long cup of coffee or something! Hmmmm... maybe a Cooking Light BB vacation spot???? We'll call it a seminar or something official like that! Thanks again everyone!

Hi everyone - This is an awesome thread!
My name is <ahem> Sandy. Sorry to state the obvious! I'm 37 years old and have been married to my wonderful husband for 13 years. He is awesome - if I cook dinner, he takes total control over clean up duty, even going as far as chasing everyone out of the kitchen while he goes to work. I thank his mother every time I talk to her for raising such a good boy!!
We have (by choice) no children, but we share our home in Michigan with our two labs, Abbie (chocolate) and Bailey (yellow) (as in Irish Cream). I enjoy cooking, baking, crafts, wine, travelling, and feeding birds in our backyard. Oh - and of course, this bulletin board! I can't remember how long I've been subscribing - probably about 5 years now.
Hi Again,
Well I really kind of confused this computer.
I put in a post about me, you know height, wight and age, all that kind of thing. And then I remembered I forgot to put in something about our Dog. So I went to edit my message and couldn't find it, so I clicked on the back key a few times and came back to my original message.
Well that was just fine, now I could add what I wanted and no one would know that I forgot something.
Well, I then clicked on "Submit Now" smileing as I did that, and WOW. There was now 2 messages from me.
So Now i'm editing this one. I couldn't delete the entire message so I had to delete the words and add these words. I hope this works to replace the 1st message otherwise all you fine people will see my original message, my original message with the Dog information, and then my original message with all this added to it.
Some day I'm going to read the instruction book that came with this computer.

Hi everyone,
I am sure you will be shocked to learn my name is...Jessica. I am 29 and live in St. Paul, Minn. (a Chicago native) with my husband--we have been married one year and have no children. I write full-time from home and waste WAY too much time on this Website, although I just started posting recently.
Hi,
This sure has been interesting to read the posts all of you put in, so that we can all get to know each other a little bit better.
As you already know my name is Ed, and I feel from my posts on the recipe threads that many of you know a bit about me already, but I'll participate here and tell you a little about me.
I'm married to Sharon and we're retired. We have three Daughters aged, lets see, right now they're 43, 42, & 34. It took me a little while to put the ages in because I had to use a calculator to figure it out. It has always been a problem for me to keep the kids' ages straight, when I was to just list them like that, because it changes quite regularly about 3 times a year.
Sharon and I have 8 Grandchildren, they range in age from 21 to 3, I won't even attempt to figure out just how old every one of them is right now, because I do know that in December there's 2 birthdays and then they all start to change ages again.
I will see 5 of them on Thanksgiving here at the house, along with my Daughters and their Husbands of course. (They couldn't have gotten better Husbands, even if I had been able to pick them out for the Girls.)
Our grandchildren are very fortunate because both Sharon's and My mother are still alive and kicking, (and they'll be here on Thanksgiving too,) so our Grandchildren have had some real quality times with their Great Grandparents, the older grandkids knew their Great Grandfathers too.
We'll have a housefull on that Thursday, that's for sure. And yes I'll be doing some cooking. Using the grill for some of it. (I hope the weather is good on Thanksgiving.)
We live in Minnesota and so do 2 of our Daughters and their families and one Daughter and her family live in Texas.
We manage to stay busy with our hobbies, volunteering, and other interests.
One last thing I'd like to add is I have a Dog. She's a great Dog too. Her name is Katie.
When I semi-retired I wanted to get a Dog and Sharon felt I should wait until I fully retired. Well, our youngest girl called up one day about two months after I semi-retired and said: "You and Mom have to come to our house for supper Friday night."
I thought that was a good idea but I asked "why?" Well she said, Jeffrey's Pediatrician has this Dog and they can't spend enough time with it and I mentioned you to them, and the Pediatrician and her family are coming for supper and if you pass inspection you'll get the Dog.
Well Sharon and I did pass inspection and we came home with Katie. And I sure am glad we did.
People sometimes ask me what kind of a Dog is that? Well, I say, She's kind of like me--a mixture--She's a Labrodale, half Lab and half Airdale. Now I'm not a Labrodale I'm half German & half Swedish so I guess I could be called a "Swedeman." I used to kid my Dad that he wanted to be a Swede so bad he had to marry one.
Well that's about it.

No, my name isn't Melman....it's Melanie. "Melman" was a nickname given to me by one of my son's friends last year. It's sort of a combination of my first and last names.
I'm 43 years old officially. Unofficially, if someone asks, I usually blurt out 36 or 37. ;-) (I figure if they have to ask, then I can be creative!)
I live in upstate South Carolina with my 17-year-old son <GASP!> and my 12-year-old golder retriever.
I stumbled across CL about 2 years ago and IMMEDIATELY picked it as my favorite magazine! Found the bulletin board this past summer and can't get enough of it!!

Hello!
My real name is Lisa. I am a registered dietitian in Knoxville, TN. When I worked in the hospital my patients refered to me as "that little food girl". I am 32, but up until about 2 years ago I looked about 15. Now it seems that I am aging at an alarming rate!
I now work at an outpatient cancer center. I paint as a hobby and small side-job. I have artwork hanging at a few restaurants in town. Painting and cooking are my right-brain activities to balance out my left-brain job.
I love to cook. I started buying cooking light years ago when my dear husband and I gave up eating out for lent.
I have two dauchunds - Flash and Scully (as in agent Dana Scully). I have a wonderful husband, we have been married for 6 1/2 years. No kids. I noticed that many BB'ers are kid-free by choice. It makes me feel better!! I am sooooo tired of the "you are being selfish" guilt trip.
I was so excited to see other Team in Training bikers!! I did the Lake Tahoe Century in June and I am going to do the Tuscon ride in May. The Tahoe ride was one the greatest days of my life.
This is a good time to throw in that I am terrible at spelling and grammar. Please forgive me! I slept through those classes!

food girl,
I'm afaid I'm also one of those little girls who will look 16 until she starts getting wrinkles! Recently, a guy in my gym told his friend that I was cute, and she asked me how old I was, shocked that he would be hitting on a girl who couldn't be more than 14! I just laughed and told her I was 22. I get it all the time, so it really doesn't bother me anymore.
Are your dachshunds long or short hairs? We have an adorable miniature long-hair named Abby; I love her so much, sometimes I go home to see my family with the primary reason being to see my dog! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Hello everyone,
It's really been great listening to all of your stories--I guess it's my turn. I'm Jodi and I live in Raleigh/Durham, though I grew up in South Florida. My husband and I moved here for grad/law school 7 years ago and never left! We have a lab, Loki, who is 85 pounds and still thinks he's a lap dog. We frequently go hiking at Eno River (local state park), and camping in the mountains. No kids yet, but we're practicing too http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif. Well, I guess I should say that I just turned 29 (ouch), but must look younger since I got ID'd a couple of years ago in Florida for lottery tickets!
I've been a subscriber to CL for 3 years, but only really started actually making the recipes since I started Weight Watchers in March...so far, I've lost 35 pounds--YIPEE!!
What a great idea for a thread http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hi everyone,
My real name is Terri-Lynn, but I have always gone by Terri (which was already used when I registered). I am 33, I find it hard to remember my age. When I turned 30 I went through some kind of denial and I truly cant remember how old I am, now I just reply that I am 30 something or early 30's. I have been married for 6 years to my wonderful husband Dave and we have 2 children a 2 1/2 year old and a 5 1/2 month old. I am currently a stay at home mom on maternity leave facing the big decision of whether or not to return to work.
We live in Beautiful British Columbia in Canada we have been here 5 years, we were originally from the prairies Winnipeg (referred to as Winterpeg) we love living on the West Coast with the oceans, greenary and mountains. It still takes my breath away!
This has been such a treat getting to know all of you fine bunch of people. The people that talk about the bad things on the internet have obviously never visited the BB. Which I am totally addicted to since the summer, I just wish I had more time.
Thank you for always sharing your wonderful ideas, you are a great group of people.

OK...I guess I should post too. I've enjoyed reading about everyone so much!
My name is Beth. I'm 25 years old. I live in downtown Indianapolis with my SO, the greatest guy ever who loves all my cooking.(We are planning to get married within the next year.) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
I am a part-time law student (at night)and work as an analyst during the day, so I keep very busy!
I used to have a cat, Lucy, but I gave her to my mom so she wouldn't be lonely when her dog died. No pets or children currently, but plan to have both in the distant future (maybe 3-5 years?)
I love cooking light and have been addicted to this BB since I found it over the summer. Alot of times, I'll make something that one of you posted and my SO will ask where I got the recipe. I say something like...'a friend gave it to me' or 'Gail, Lori, whomever says its really good.' He always says 'is that a real person or one of your internet people?' http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif
Anyway, I'm glad to 'know' all of you!

11-14-2000, 02:08 PM
Hello. I usually don't post much, I just read, but this week I have just felt the need to share so here I am.
I'm Kerri. Will be 25 at the end of this month. I work in a research lab in Dallas and have 2 degrees in microbiology. Just got married at the end of Sept to a guy who loves to eat, but nothing to show for it. That is kind of frustrating to me, and my hips! I love to cook. I grew up in a family of snobs. By snobs I mean there were just some things that did not end up on our dinner table (ie, boxed mashed potatoes, premade stuffing, no fast food). We cooked instead! I got cooking light as a gift for xmas last year. My friend was trying to get this other magazine for me, but for some reason, it wouldn't work. I suggested cooking light instead because my mom gets in and seems to like it. I think it was the best present ever. Been using the bulletin board since around May. Its been fun.
Oh yeah, and spelling isn't my strong suit. Consider yourselves warned.

Whew! What fun! Thought I would add a little 'left coast' representation:
I am Chris from California--the Monterey Peninsula area on CA's central coast. I'm 51, married to dh for almost a quarter of a century. We have two sons, 19 & 23, who are living away from home at college, but still reside in a big way in our checkbooks! After the boys moved out, I got a golden retriever! I am a computer technician for a telephone company----shhh! I have to speak softly 'cause I'm on my lunch break right now ;->!!!
I've been a CL fan for a number of years and it has been enjoyable to learn to cook new things for just the two of us (instead of the huge carbo feasts of the teen football player days!) I especially love to bake and I love to read everyone's reviews of current and past recipes....I usually whip up those rave reviews right away!!
Thanks to everyone for making this such an enjoyable, delicious place to visit!

MrsReber, I can't believe I missed you and BarbaraL. I guess my brain was looking for "New Jersey" not NJ.
My son is a junior at Princeton, and my husband and I are really looking forward to visiting him there (probably when he graduates), but hopefully sooner.
Since he's so close to you, maybe you can stop by and check on him sometime and bring him one of your delicious homemade goodies!

Hi everyone! I hate being redundant but what a great idea!! I have really enjoyed reading everyone's bio.
I am 29 (knocking on the 30 door) and single. I cook as much as I can but this tends to be hard for one. I therefore have lots of dinner parties!
I am a professor of Physical Therapy in Cincinnati, Ohio, no pets and no kids. I find it very hard to take care of myself let alone dependents http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I spend as much time as I can on this BB as it is the most informative and friendliest I have found.
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Greta, good luck on your move! You're halfway between NYC and the end of Long Island? Anywhere near Port Jefferson Station? Had really good friends that lived there up until a year ago -- nice area (though we did get sick of the LIE (Long Island Expressway) going to see them!)
Kentgirl, Mrs. Reber's right -- alot of New Jersey's very pretty. The Turnpike goes through the worst areas, and that's all that seen by many people who are passing through! Princeton's lovely; best of luck to your son!

Hi!
I have been eavesdropping on this board for a while and thought it was about time I posted.
I am also a Susan. (It's not SUCH a common name. Must be a food thing.)
Married 6 years. No kids. One dog.
I've lived in Cajun country and the midwest, and recently relocated to Tampa, FL. The weather is beautiful and I love it!
I've subscribed to Cooking Light since 1997, and use it for most of my cooking. I cook almost every night, although sometimes we eat really late because I like to take my time.
I've really enjoyed reading about everyone. What a nice group of people!

There is no way I am going to be the last to post!
Hi to all!! My name is Diane (41 years young this past August and feeling like I'm in my 20's!). My son and I (he's almost 22 yrs old...wait, how did that happen http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif ??) live in Southern California, Costa Mesa to be exact. Born in Chicago and raised in Joliet, IL and also lived in Houston for 5 years. I love it here but as I've said before, wish I could afford it! I have no other family here in Ca. Parents and brothers still live in Joliet and my sister just moved from Joliet to Charlotte, NC (haven't seen her in about 10 years, sad to say, but am hoping to get to NC SOON).
We are probably the last family on earth that FINALLY got a home computer and get on the Internet (just about 2 months ago)! Yeah!
Received CL subscription in Dec, 1998 as a Christmas gift and have been enjoying it ever since. I was so glad to find this BB. All the reviews, tips, 'talks', support, etc. have been very friendly and helpful. I posted before that I have made some of the CL recipes I normally would not have tried because of the raves on the BB (and everyone was right about the dishes). My son even likes the food I make from CL recipes (maybe that's why I can't get him to move out http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ?).
I've been working at the same company 16 years now. Mind you the name has changed (with being sold, mergers, etc) about 5-6 times. When I first started with this company and found out people had been there for 5, 10, 15 years I thought how could anyone stay at one job THAT long?...now look at me!
Oh, BTW, we have no animals. Besides my son being enough to handle, I was traumatized by a Chihuahua as a child. Now don't laugh, it's almost true! I'm actually more afraid of little dogs than big ones. OK, I confess, I honestly changed my walking route because of a tiny, furry, white dog! Maybe I need therapy!!
Well, I need to get back to the BB since it so fast moving I'm sure I missed a ton of important information already! Thanks to all of you for your friendliness and advice. I appreciate everyone's input.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
Diane
Hello to everyone! I'm Jean, just turned 51 years old. What fun I've had reading through all the bios these past several days. I thought it was too late to add on but...here goes.
I'm married to a very wonderful DH since 1992 (2nd for both) but have known eachother since 1984. Together we have 5 children, (all are out on their own and seem to be doing just fine) Andy 31, Andy 30 and Marc, Scott and Heidi 29. I love them all and consider them MINE. We have 4 of the most perfect grandchildren Jordan 10, Chance 6, Ryan 9, Shelbi 3 and another about to appear (due date Nov 17)...the grandchildren are more perfect than the children.
We live in Wichita, Kansas and both love to travel. My husband has his private pilots license so we TRY to get away as much as possible but, we both work so that isn't easy.
Since it is just the two of us to cook for I do like the CL recipes that can be prepared and then frozen. I will admit we probably go out to eat too much.
I've subscribed to CL since 1994 and just found this BB last summer. I am addicted.
Again, it is great to meet you all.
Jean
Ed,
Where in MN are you from? We LOVE MN and go fishing up there often, near Alexandria

i am 30 years old, single, and i just moved from manhattan to long island this week. i am on the north shore of long island--about 1/2 way from nyc to the tip of the island.
aside from leaving the city, i also left my job. i used to work for a mutual fund family. i decided to make a major career change!! finance just didn't fulfill me...
i started cooking when i lived in charlottesville virginia. my friends there couldn't believe it when i became ms. chef! i received my first subscription to cl as a gift and have been hooked ever since!!
i also am hooked on the bulletin boards--but, since i left my job my visits are must less frequent.
nice to meet all of you!
OK, I'll finally jump in...the past several days I haven't had time to read this whole thread but now I have!
My name is Jen (as you may have guessed http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif), I'm 25 (will be 26 on Christmas Eve!), and I live in beautiful Vancouver, BC (another Pacific Northwesterner...although it's Southwest to us canucks!). I've been married for about 4 1/2 years to my incredibly wonderful husband, Jeff. No kids yet...probably not for awhile, but we're definitely hoping someday. I work for a biotechnology company as a molecular biologist and also enjoy doing computer stuff (no, not just reading the bb's!). Jeff & I are both big music people - he has a degree in classical voice, and I sing too (not the same league though)...that was one of the things that originally drew us together. We met in high school and were very close friends, both dating others, until our 2nd yr of university when the sparks flew! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif I really enjoy spending time here (too much time, definitely!) and learning so many new things from everyone. Thanks for sharing!
Oh, I meant to post our web page address too http://www.xenz.com/cabralda ... we obviously have WAY too much time on our hands!!

Wow! I cannot believe how big this post is! This board has grown so much since I started using it a few months before they got the new bb software, and I think it is truly wonderful. I have never had a question that went unanswered with this group.
My name is Laura. I'm 23. I live in Chapel Hill, NC, but am originally from Barnwell, SC. My husband, Greg, is in his third year of medical school at UNC. I am in my second year of law school at UNC. We have been married for 3 and a half years. No kids yet, but we want them in the future. For now, our two wonderful cats keep us busy and happy enough! They are each around a year old and are already starting to get really fat. Visit them at www.geocities.com/laurahboyd/petcentral.html (http://www.geocities.com/laurahboyd/petcentral.html) !

Hi, everyone!
Terri-Lynn, we must be biologically in-sync somehow - my sons are 2 1/2 years and 5 1/2 months old! This board has become my "just-for-Mommy" time every day. And if you don't read every day, you can't keep up with the deluge of posts here. My, how we've grown!
Okay, my stats - 29 yrs old, at-home mom, very happily married 5 years, living in and native of the Denver area, no pets (and son is allergic to dander anyway). I was surprised to see only one other post from Colorado. We've got a CL cooking group going via this board, so I know there are more of us Coloradans out there - where are you guys?
Nice to meet everyone!

Hi everyone!
It's taken me two days to meet all of you! I live in N. Attleboro, MA, which is in MA but very close to the RI border. Providence is a great city with many wonderful restaurants and of course, Boston is less than an hour away. So, we think it's a great place to live. My husband and I have been married for 12 years and have two boys (Jacob 10 and Alex 7.) I'm originally from a suburb of Detroit, but have been in the Northeast since I went to college in '79. OK, I'll be 40 on my next birthday. But, from what I have read lately, it should be a great time in my life.
I became addicted to the BB when I was really slow at work this summer. Also, we began a dinner group around the same time. We have a great group and have had a lot of fun!
Just this week I was downsized from my company, which I think is a good thing. It sort of makes me go out and find a job (marketing communications) that I will enjoy more. So, in the meantime, I'm going to play with my new MC software, shop, cook, and really enjoy the holidays!
I love hearing all of the reviews of recipes and sharing our knowledge!
Lauren
Oh, I forgot to mention that we have a Beagle named "Patches", two fish and a hermit crab!

Hi Andi,
You asked:
Ed,
Where in MN are you from? We LOVE MN and go fishing up there often, near Alexandria
Well, I'm very familiar with the Alexandria area and all the vacation land in Northern and Central Minnesota. And you picked a fine spot for a summer vacation.
Right now we're waiting for it to be cold enough to make ice on the lakes so we can go ice fishing. My Father-In-Law used to like to be on the ice on Thanksgiving Day every year, Some times it was kind of thin and sometimes it was still water, but he would really be smiling if he could be the first guy out on the ice on Thanksgiving Day.
Those old guys used to love to haul a fish out through the ice.
We at one time lived in the Brainerd Lakes area of Minnesota, you may know of it. Sharon and I have been very fortunate in that we have always been able to live in smaller communities and in the vacation lands of both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
When I was going to semi-retire We moved away from the Brainerd Lakes area and moved back to our Home town because it was an hour closer to our children, and because I like it here. We are still in vacation land with lots of lakes and all that around us, and plenty of tourists to smile at on the roads and in the stores.
The Tourist season here is year around with Snow Mobiling and Skiing and Ice Fishing. There are many families who prefer a winter vacation to a summer vacation. There are even some hearty souls who like to Winter Camp. One of My Sons-In Law does that, but I never could see the attraction, I should point out he does this with his buddies--so far he hasn't convinced my Daughter and Grand Sons of just how much fun it is to camp out in a tent in sub zero temperatures.
I have always preferred to be in Rural Minnesota and preferrably not in a town, but my wife prefers to live in town, so for this last move I agreed to buy a place in town.
But I'm lucky enough to have a really large double lot, about a half acre, with a shop out back. And I can be on the water or in the woods in about 15 minutes from the house.
Our town is placed in East Central Minnesota where the Prairie ends and the Forest area of Minnesota begins. It is a town of about 3000 people. Living in a town this size is just right for a guy like me, because if I ever forget what I'm doing all I need to do is ask around and there are plenty of people who will tell me what I'm supposed to be doing. Now in a city where nobody knows your business, it's hard to get advise like that.
We have a Cross Country Ski Race here every February, called the Vasaloppet, The town fills up with Skiers from all over the world to ski in the race and the population of the town grows tremendously for that week end, it's always the second Sunday in February.
The race is patterened after the Vasaloppet Ski Race in Sweden, where our sister town is at; Mora Sweden.
If you would like to see more about this area, and The Mora Vasaloppet just click on this site: http://www.vasaloppet.org/index.html
Well sorry to ramble on so long about this area. But as they say around here if you're a good child and do all the right things and grow to become a good adult and live a clean and wholesome life someday you might be lucky enough to live in Mora, Minnesota.

WOW! I was going through the BB and noticed the 134 post to this topic. So here I am!
My name is Diane McGaugh (sound like McGaw)
I am 33 years old and just got married this past April. Both myself and my husband (Keith) are from famous Waco, Tx and we live in Austin, Tx. We have both lived here for about 7 years and love it. However, we just met a few years ago. I work for the state as a Budget Analyst (hoping to quit after this coming summer) and Keith works for an electronic distributor (too high tech for me to explain much more). We are currently building a house and hopefully it will be finish around April 2001. We have a wonderful, beautiful Golden Retreiver named Buddy that I got last Christmas. He is my shadow the second I get home from work. I have already bought him so much christmas stuff on the internet.
I just got started with CL and have always bought them at the grocery store but now I subscribe and have been a BB user for about 2 months. This is probably my 3rd post! I am a baby at this. I usually read the BB daily during my short 30 minute lunch break. I feel like I know everyone. I am in a CL supper club here in Austin and it has been great.
Talk to ya'll soon.

Hi SoCal (Diane),
It is nice to find another person that lives in OC on the bb. I live in Santa Ana near South Coast Plaza and my family is originally from Chicago. As a lifer, I too wish I could afford to live here as I have seen the area change so much. I also was traumatized by a dog as a child, but it was a boxer. Happy holidays and don't forget to attend the boat parade next month-it's fun!

Hi to you Wendy! Wow, someone basically down the street from me (although it would probably take an hour with the traffic around South Coast Plaza http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif )!!
You are right about all the changes around here. We've lived here for about 12 years now and I thought it was expensive back then!
I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't seen the boat parade...yet. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif Maybe this year. Funny thing is, the route I take for my walks includes Cliff Dr. that overlooks the bay and ocean. Wonder if I could at least see the lights from there? It certainly wouldn't be the same as being close to the boats. You have got my interest though.
Have a wonderful Holiday Season!

How great to really meet everyone. I'm Sandy, age 51, married 30 years next February. I have 4 children, two living with us in the U.S.A, one daughter living in Australia, one living in the Dominican Rebublic. I love CL and use it daily. I am always looking for recipes from other countries. Look forward to getting to know everyone better. Oh, a bit about myself...I am a legal assistant for a criminal defense attorney. Believe it or not, we love sharing recipes in the office. Mine are almost always from cL.

Sandy, what an interesting job! I have a paralegal degree, but I don't work directly with attorneys. I'm in a corporate setting. I used to be a paralegal for the famous Jacoby & Meyers- I did personal injury work. Couldn't take the people anymore- they would call all the time asking me to forward them money since "I know I'll get a settlement". Never mind that the attorney would be disbarred! I love criminal law and find it fascinating.

Okay, I quess I need to add my two cents. I have posted in earlier versions of this post, but this seems to be the BIG ONE, so count me in!
As many of you know, I live in Raleigh NC, but am originally from Richmond Virginia. I am 41, am married to a great guy and we have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, who is amazing. As many of ya'll also know, we are dealing with secondary infertility problems and are going through IVF, etc. which can be all consuming sometimes.
I am a lawyer, practiced with a big firm for 14 years, but stopped working about 6 months ago to concentrate on the baby thing and also to be able to get some things done around the house. My husband's job has become very demanding lately, with lots of international travel, so we just got so that we were just surviving and not having any fun. Now I have more time to get "stuff" done and COOK and we have much more fun. Also, I have the time to travel with him...London and Spain in July, Maui last week, Cancun next week. Oh, how I suffer!
My only other big thing is that we have bought a new house and are moving on Dec. 15 and I have my entire family coming for Christmas! Ahhh! I may not be posting as much in the next couple weeks! The new house has 1 1/2 acres, so my gardening time may impose on my cooking time!
It has been great meeting and learning from all of you. Look forward to more. Happy holidays!

I've got a son, age 27, a daughter, age 24, and a new resident stepson, age 15. My 83 year-old mother also lives with me.
I'm in nursing school and I'm set to graduate this coming May.
I've been reading Cooking Light since its introduction. Unfortunately, I don't always succeed in eating light http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

My name is Sarah: I'm 37, married 1 year, no kids and not planning any. My husband and I are owned by 2 golden retrievers, Amber and Teal. I'm a student, FINALLY getting my bachelor's degree after many years of working in various fields. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
My mom and I both get CL, and I find that I've been mentioning this BB more and more as we talk about various articles and recipes. I'm trying to persuade her to get on the web and check this out. With so much trash out there on the web, this is a site/BB that I can actually recommend to her without reservation. Thanks everyone for sharing a bit about yourselves!

Hi, am I too late to introduce myself? My name is Julia. I haven't been here for a while, had an old computer that was getting too slow to do much, it was really working badly. We finally replaced it and I can do things again.
I'm 39 years old, married to a wonderful guy since June (we'd been together 15 years and decided we weren't going anywhere). I love cooking - almost any kind of food and find this web site and CL magazine invaluable.
I live in Oakville, Ontario Canada (near Toronto). We've been here for a year (moved from Toronto).
It's amzing to see where everyone is from. We are certainly scattered all over, aren't we.

Hi!
I just started using the BB and everyone is just so nice. This is really a great community.
I am married - no children (we do have a dog and a cat). I am a creative director heading up a design department that creates the graphics for food and general merchandise packaging. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and enjoy cooking, gardening and creating art - raku pottery and painting (watercolor).
I have been a subscriber to CL for several years and enjoy pairing many of the dishes with wine - my husband and I got hooked after a trip to Napa and Sonoma 4 years ago.
Once again - what a great community.
Happy Holidays to everyone.

Hi Everybody!
It's been a few days but I had to get in on the action! I'm Jeanne and I love this BB! I've been on it since shortly before the boards changed. When was that anyway?
I'm 40 years old, married for 17 years to the best guy in the whole world (not only does he do dishes, he cleans toilets!). We have no kids; not by choice, but we've come to terms with it. No pets either - except for the birds and squirrels we feed on a daily basis.
We live in Columbia, MD which is a pretty area although I'd move home to Omaha, Nebraska in a heartbeat. I miss my family a lot.
I'm a meeting planner and my husband, PJ, works for the Defense Department. I love to cook and have been eating much healthier since I got addicted to this board and magazine. I've been subscribing for about 7 years now, but the board has really rekindled my interest.
It's great to meet all of you. Happy Holidays to all!

Hi, I'm Liz. I'm 29, married just over a year, and live in Memphis with my husband, Eric, and two cats (Lucy and Dr. Bombay).
I'm new to the bulletin board this week, but I know a great thing when I see it. I look forward to the great tips and information you all have to share. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Name is Pat
Age, 55
Live in Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby
Married 35 years to the same wonderful man
2 daughters, 30 and 25. The 30-year old just delivered my first grandchild, a little boy named Isaac. Some of you may have seen my post about the web site where you could see his cute picture. Do I sound dotty? It is a requirement of grandparenthood.
I am a retired business teacher who was an adviser for the Future Business Leaders of America. I enjoyed the closeness that develops between teachers and students when working together to accomplish goals (regional, state, and national competition). I miss my students; can you tell?
I am addicted to this board. I started cooking healthy many years ago as my husband has a HDL/LDL ratio problem. I started before Cooking Light and used the American Heart Association cookbooks, and the Cooking Light cookbooks that were published as Southern Living Cooking Light.
