As Thanksgiving fast approaches and we all get busy with preparations and family and friends I thought I'd start a thread to remind us of what we are thankful for.
First, I am thankful that an ancestor of mine, Sarah Josepha Hale (http://nm.essortment.com/thanksgivinghis_rxgy.htm), campaigned and was successful at getting Thanksgiving to be named a national holiday.
I am thankful that my best friend and cousin will be in town. I've missed her dearly since she moved away earlier this year and to have her around will be a true delight. I am thankful for a wonderful job that has blessed me many times over with growth, flexibility, great colleagues and decent compensation. I'm thankful that ski season is upon us. My outlook on life is always better this time of year. I grateful for the support of my friends, both IRL and here, through trying times.
So, what will you be thankful for this coming week?

Great thread!
I am thankful for my best friend, who listens to my issues and loves me despite them. I have put her in an awkward situation lately and she has handled it with much grace. I'm extremely lucky to have her in my life!:)
I'm thankful for my wonderful DH who isn't always wonderful, but then again neither am I, and somehow we keep making it work!:)
I'm happy for my good health, my great job, and my family. :)
And I'm most thankful that I will be getting a new nephew soon, as my sister is currently in labor!!!:D :D :D

I am thankful for DH, who keeps going even when he doesn't feel well, which is most of the time! And for being the one taking the lead on helping DD2 with her current problems.
I am thankful that we can afford to have DD2 living here while she finishes her schooling and hopefully gets a handle on the other problems!
I'm thankful for living on the lake, and for having a wonderful, caring community in my church and the fire department!:)
I am thankful that DMIL is still alive, and will be with us for the holiday.:D
I am thankful that DD1 is doing so well in her life, and is happy with her partner!
I am thankful that, so far, all the things that my body is doing to me are alleviated with exercise or a pill!

Great thread
I am thankfull for all of God's blessings .For a great DH, parents & inlaws!. I am grateful for being able to enjoy wonderful sunsets and sunrises & for being a phone call away from my parents who now live closer to us. I am thankful for some dear friends who have gone through a lot lately & for being there for them & happy that life is changing for them. On this Thanksgiving I will give thanks for all I have ;for those near and those who have drifted afar to someday come back and I will pray for those who are not able to be sitting around a bountiful table.. for our serviceman and woman and those that have lost their lives, the sick the hungry and those all alone.
Thank you too to all in this BB and Happy Thanksgiving and a blessed one to ALL.

Quite a few people close to me have suffered losses in the past month. Puts so many things in perspective and makes me so very thankful for my health. It's so imporant and something that I think many people take for granted. So while I'm grumbling about doing laundry, I'm thankful for my 2 good legs that carry me up and down the basement stairs.
In additon to that, my mom will be here tomorrow afternoon!! And she's staying for a week! Yes, she'll drive me crazy before it's time for her to go home, but I'll miss her the second she leaves. I'm thrilled that she'll be here.
My sister, neice and nephew will be coming here on Wednesday afternoon, too. I'm so happy to be spending the holiday with my family again this year.
I'm thankful for my 2 wonderful children who are healthy, bright, and so full of love. Makes me speechless some days to realize my good fortune.
And last, but certainly not least, I'm thankful for my DH who is honest and faithful and who has a great sense of humor. 8 years of marriage and 2 wonderful kids and I can still look at him at times and get those butterflies. Sure he makes me crazy, but I'm sure I cause my share of aggravation, too!

I'm thankful for my DH - for putting up with me, for being there for me, for actually being willing to go through the difficult times with me because it makes the good times that much sweeter.
I'm thankful to God for all of His blessings - even those blessings that come out of hardship. I learn so much in every day situations that I know must come from Him.
I'm thankful that DH and I have made the choice last year to pursue adoption to bring the family we've always desired into being and that now, 1 year later we are in the last few weeks of making this dream come true. The thankful part is because all of the State requirements have been met, all of the workers have been notified, all of the red tape has been gotten through with ease and soon, very soon, I'll have a son.
I'm thankful for my family - we've had some difficult times in the past but right now everyone is good with one another and that just makes this time of year so much the better.
I'm thankful for my dearest friend in the world - besides my DH - she really is a rock, although I know that I drive her crazy at times. She loves me and I love her and that's all that matters.
I'm thankful for my health, for my well-being, for the ability to still do the things in life that I've always enjoyed and for being able to appreciate and try new things in life as well.
Gosh, I didn't mean to write a book but life is good...real good in the big scheme of things. Yes, there is sickness to deal with right now, there are obstacles that I face every single day, there are loved ones that I don't know if they will make it to tomorrow but I'm thankful for the time I've had with them, the privelege to call them my friend, the honor of having been made a better person because of them.

I'm thankful for a good job with very sweet people.
I'm thankful that one of my attorneys invited DH and I over to her house for Thanksgiving (DH and I are not traveling back to OKC for the holidays).
I'm thankful I live in a quirky but cool city.
I'm thankful I have the sweetest FIL, MIL, and SIL ever.
I'm most of all thankful for DH.

I am thankful for the weeone, who reminds me that there is no such thing as perfect in life...just you way.
I am thankful for my parents who, despite making me nuts, love me and support me unconditionally.
I am thankful for a medical community that is able to keep me reasonably healthy and that is fighting for the life of a friend.
I am thankful for an amazing froup of friends who bring me strength, hope, a variety of perspectives and often times a good dose of reality!
I am thankful for US soldiers all around the world who have given up time with their own families to help keep other safe and me free.
I am thankful that I still have a job!!!

Besides the obvious (DH, a new job, being able to make ends meet), I am thankful for getting another fall/winter. I am thankful for all the support I received here during my diagnosis...as Robyn said, my friends IRL and here and my new rekindling with my twin sister---I am hopeful things will continue positively.
Great thread!
I like this one.

I'm thankful for my sister who is always, always there for me.
I'm thankful for my good health.

I am thankful for my health. Sometimes getting motivated to hit the gym is the hardest thing in the world, but the being able to go and be active is something I will not take for granted.
I am thankful for my older brother who has finally, at 40, gotten his life back on track and decided to join the army and dedicate his life to serving this country.
I am thankful for my parents and my many friendships.
I am thankful for my DBF who has helped me learn how rewarding a healthy, loving, mature relationship can be.
And a couple silly ones:

Personally, it was a rough year....Actually, for a lot of us, in one way or another. I am thankful that we have weathered our tough times and that we are still here able to rejoice in each other's victories and be there for one another in the rough times and times of sadness. My list of things of which I am thankful....
My Faith in God, who to me is an awesome God...
My husband and children...My friends...
(I am so thankful for the people who like me and love me, during the times I probably don't deserve it.)
My health and the health of all...
The guys we had the opportunity to employ and the joy that they brought to us, each time they did a job....and each time, it was a job well done....we had absolutely the greatest group of guys that an employer could ever ask for.
My job and the delight that it brings me each and every day when I greet those smiling little faces and hear their exciting little stories...to some it may be a job, but to me it is a calling.
My computer, this list and the camaraderie it offers us...
I am thankful for everyone who serves this country, whether it be the Armed forces, our firemen or our policemen and women.....
...And that we have this day for which we take time to pause and remember and be greatful .

Brilliant thread Robyn!
When I look at, or think about, my children I'm filled with such love, wonder and gratitude for their presence in my life. I'm stunned beyond words that they actually like being around me because at this age with so much beginning in their lives, 'mom' can be easily dismissed or taken for granted. I appreciate that I'm not.
My DH can drive me crazy like no one can, but he can also make me laugh like no one can. He thinks I'm beautiful - even when I'm having a bad hair day. We're soul mates, it was love-at-first-sight, and I'll always be grateful to have experienced this in my lifetime.
I'm grateful for my awareness of my Creator, and my tangible, powerful connection to that Universal Source. It is my strength, the source of who I am, where I come from, all that I have, and what allows that which is unfathomable to be bearable.
My health is something I never take for granted. I work to stay healthy, and appreciate beyond measure where a healthy body, mind and spirit can take me in this life.
There is more that I could list here, but having started this, I'll take this inner glow with me and quietly ponder the rest...:)

I am extremely thankful that neither myself or my passenger got hurt the other night when I hit a deer on the highway. I can't even bring myself to be upset about it because I am just too grateful that the accident wasn't worse.
I am thankful for the experience of moving to a new place with my family.
I am thankful for my family and the sacrifices that they have made for me throughout my life.

I'm grateful for my lovely home in a great neighborhood in a city that seems like a gift every day; when things are bad I have my cheery kitchen or a beautiful view, and that makes all the difference.
Of course my friends, all of whom have known me a long, long time - a couple of them are the only people left with whom I can talk about my father, my aunt, my brother, the house I grew up in.
DBF, of course, who has 40 employees and a very stressful/demanding job, but when I told him my mother had had a stroke, said "I'll drive you up to the hospital right now"...in the middle of a crazy Monday.
Here's something a little...unusual...that I've always been grateful for - I mean, for probably 20 years: I'm grateful to have lived my life free of social unrest. War, of course, but also anarchy or lack of structure, authority. Election Day, however you feel about the process or outcome or controversies...they're never resolved by tanks and troops, and for some odd reason, I've always been very grateful for that.
This afternoon I was feeling grateful for -- are you ready? -- my wonderful dentist! She's the best! But I guess you could put that in the healthy/health care column if it would make me look less freakish. ;)
And finally, given the nature of this board...great ingredients and great restaurants. They make me so happy. :)
