I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 - today the battery light started flashing alternate green and red. I'm powered up right now without the battery, just off the plug. When I push the little battery power button on the battery itself every other light lights up. I know that means something, but I can't find what on Dell's useless website. Anyone know? Is the battery dead and I need to order another or is there something else I can do?

Thanks in advance! I'm trying to keep this computer alive for a couple more months....ugh!

I did a web search and found a few responses that all say it means you need a new battery: this is an example of the typical posting I found on ask.com
using this query Flashing battery light on Dell laptop -- what does it mean?
I hope this helps.

I had the exact same symptom on my D505 - I contacted Dell who advised
it means the battery is done, so I ordered a new one.

My battery life had been getting shorter and shorter before hand and
when the red light thing started, it dropped to 10 minutes.

That said, after a couple of full discharge-charge cycles, the red light
stopped.

How old is the computer? I have an old Dell Insperion 6000 too and just bought a new battery. $139 direct from Dell, now the computer works like a charm...and if the battery dosen't have just enough juice, the computer will not boot at all. Good luck, Wanda

Wanda -

It's at least 3 years old. It might be older. I'd like to replace it, but I'm not through with all of my research! I"m thinking about going Mac this time, but I have double checked everything I need to to be able to do that, so I need this one to last a bit longer. I ordered a battery off of ebay - $59 rather than $139. It's a seller that I've bought from before so I kno whis stuff is usually legit.

Thanks to both of you for your input and help!

Who is the seller? Turns out i need to get a new laptop battery soon too. So rather than blindly choosing somebody, thought I might go with the seller you had good experience with.
