View Full Version : Favorite Eyeliner?

I'm trying to polish my look at bit and am having trouble finding the right eyeliner.

The stuff I've always used is more like a pencil and doesn't go on the upper lid smoothly. When I've seen liner that I like the look of, it looks so smooth that it could be magic marker! I've seen it on young adults in my area, but am too embarassed to ask what type they use.

Does anyone have any favorites or suggestions for a smooth easy to apply liner?

Also, I'm two hours from a dept store and have never had any success when I've tried to go to the cosmetic counters, so that isn't something that I'm considering doing at the moment.

Thanks!

My favorite is just a Cover Girl one (Perfect Point Plus) which has a built in sharpener. It is the only one I ever buy now, because it goes on very smoothly, and all you have to do is twist it to make more of it come out.

There are eye liners which resemble magic markers.

If you are trying to get a very defined "line", the best result is with some form of liquid eye liner and a good eye liner brush. Many of the brands carry this in some form and the trick is the application and the brush. Sephora and drugstore.com have excellent selections to browse.

A good eye liner brush and practice with technique is critical because liquid eye liner is less "forgiving". A dry eye is also important -- I use an eyelid foundation base and some powder eye shadow before applying eye liner.

In my experience, pencils of any kind seem better suited to the slightly smudged, less defined eye line which is also nice –- by their nature they are going to be a cream which is going to melt more into the skin than a liquid eye liner.

Both pencils and liquid have a place - depends on what look you are going for. I actually use a powder eye liner for every day since it gives a very subtle look of defining the eye and intensifying the lashes -- which is what I like for every day makeup -- I don't want people to "know" I am wearing makeup -- just want to look subtly enhanced.

I really like Aqua Eyes by Makeup Forever. I get it at Sephora. It goes on smoothly and lasts forever (all day). It's a pencil, but creamier than most, so it's easy to apply.

I've started wearing makeup (just on my eyes) a lot more because I look a little older with it. One of my clients told me I look like I'm in junior high when I walked into the exam room to look at her dog. So I try to look like I'm at least in college when I work: French twist, makeup and heels seems to do the trick! I love Sephora for makeup, I use Aqua Eyes and Bare Escentuals.

I'm addicted to Sephora. But for eyeliner on top, I use Lancome. Very thin brush, easy to put on.

For bottom, I use Mac fluid line. Stays on all day. Of course, nothing about me is subtle, so I only have the brightest colors they make!:)

Brushes are very important. If you can find your way to Sephora, they can teach you a trick or two...

I love gel eyeliner, such as Bobbi Brown or MAC, but they have a steeper learning curve. With enough practive you can create smokey bedroom eyes or more defined cat eyes.

For liquid eyeliners I prefer a nice thin brush, but some people like the felt-tip types. You could try CoverGirl Line Exact as an inexpensive starting point. I use that for when I'm in too much of a hurry for my gel eyeliner.

I've been using liquid eyeliner for years. I always get compliments on it. I much prefer the felt tip. I was using an Almay liquid liner, but now I'm using Maybelline's liquid liner. It does take practice to get it right. I use a wet Q-tip to correct any mistakes after application.

I am addicted to BE liner/shadows...they can be used wet or dry...and there is also this great stuff you can mix them with to make them waterproof...I get them from QVC, or Sephora.

I second that! And I love the Laura Mercier counter at Nordstrom- great advice and no hard sell. I love that eyelid primer and the SPF mineral powder foundation!

the one i use looks like it is in a lip gloss container, and you use a wand to apply it to your eyelid (then your finger to smooth it out). it really is amazing - my eye make up never runs or gets that greasy creased look now.

My absolute favorite is Avon's Glimmersticks. Goes on nice and smooth. I always stock up when they're on sale.
