This morning about 9:30 my youngest son who is a "junior" at UTSA called to let me know he was on his way home for the weekend (seems UTSA is one of the few, if not the only school to hold classes the day before turkey day). I wished him well on his trip and gave my usual motherly chants..."Be safe" "Be Careful" Drive Aware" "Don't Be Stupid" and most importantly "I Love You"...He's been a student there for 2+ years (coming home every 3 weeks)and he gave me the typical responses...I know I will and I love you too.

30 minutes later he calls again to tell me he's been in an accident...:( :( :( and my response was "Are you okay?" "Is anyone hurt?" "Were you at fault" "I love you"

I called my DH to tell him (thought he was out in the pasture) and he came up to go pick up DS and his car. MIL came over and was concerned but let her know that everything was fine. She made some comment about us having the equipment to go and bring him and the car home but my biggest thing was the fact that my son was standing on the side of the road 2 hours from home but could call me and let me know what was going on! In my day I would have had to ride in the tow truck and then made a collect call home. DS sent a picture of his car to DS@1 and I was able to see it hours before the actual wreck was haul into the driveway!

I Love Technology!!!!!

Well it sounds like everyone was okay - except for maybe the car.

I do love knowing that cell phones can come in handy for those kinds of things.

My first car died on me twice and stranded me where I was at the mercy of strangers. Not fun!

Glad he made it home one way or the other. :)

First off, I'm really sorry about the accident- that's an unfortunate way to start the weekend, but it sounds like it could have been a lot worse.

But yes, I completely agree about how different a scenario like that is from how it would have played out not so very long ago. A couple of years ago DBF and I were going to dinner at the home of friends who lived on a dark street in a town outside of Boston and we were totally lost. Called on the cell phone to get directions from them, saying, "We just passed a school on our right...now there's a diner on our left," etc. Finally, one of the couple said, "Slow down, I'm out on the porch looking for you...I'm waving - the house with the Jetta in front." It was GREAT. Remember when you'd get lost and then have to find a pay phone and hope the instructions you got would work - otherwise it was back to the/another phone and and another try.
