Maybe this belongs on "other stuff" but I was wondering -- does anyone here have any experience with/advice about getting medical insurance for pets? I am vaguely aware that there are plans out there, but have no idea what the pitfalls would be or what the typical costs vs savings are.

I have one cat that's diabetic. Another was just diagnosed with a thyroid condition; he seems to be reacting badly to the medication, and I am fretting about the prospect of having to make a very unpleasant decision in the near future.

Any thoughts?

I would definitely cross-post this on the Other Stuff board - I'm sure you'll get a lot more responses. I don't have any experience with pet insurance, but I suspect both of your cats' pre-existing conditions (diabetes and thyroid) would be excluded from any coverage, so it might not be a cost-effective choice to insure them. It's been a long time since I did any research on pet insurance, but at the time, I recall that the coverage was very limited and had a lot of exclusions. Not sure if that is still the case.

Thanks! I don't spend much time outside the food boards, so I wasn't sure where to put it. :)
