Santa is bringing me one for Christmas! We've never owned a camcorder, and I think this will be perfect for those rare moments when I put down the camera and wish I had a video. It's about the size of a pack of cigarettes, and doesn't require any disks or tapes - it has a USB port on the side that you just plug straight into your computer. It takes about 60 minutes of video (some people are reporting 2 hours) and costs $150. Pretty cool!
I posted since I think this would be a great gift for the more difficult people on your Christmas list - especially teens (boys and girls).

OMG! That is soooo cool! It's perfect for people like me who like to take a little video, but nothing too big. I'm going to have to investigate this some more!

Yep- we got one for Christmas last year and love it. Like you, we've never had a camcorder and I've never had any interest in lugging one around, but this one is great- just point and shoot, no other bells or whistles to worry about. :) My only complaint is that it absolutely devours batteries.

How is the picture quality? Could this be the sole video option for a family? I never use our Hi-8 camcorder since it is a pain to carry around and so we're missing out on lots of video opportunities with the kids.
I would love something small that produces good quality video. I'm assuming you can copy the video from the computer to a DVD? How does it look on a tv vs a computer monitor. Sorry so many questions, but it sounds like a great option as long as it's not a "fuzzy" picture...
Thanks!

I’m looking into the Flip, too – possible gift for the DS and maybe ourselves this year. The price is reasonable; but my main justification for purchasing has a practical side. With all these wildfires occurring in So. CA, I believe we would initially use the Flip video recorder as an easy way to document contents on the inside of the house for insurance purposes.
But then........ looking into the near future, can you not imagine a time will come, that instead of posting still food photos on the CLBB, we could soon be viewing each other’s foodie adventures by video clip!? How exciting is that!

I've been thinking about purchasing this too. We haven't had a camcorder in our family for years and it would be nice to record some memories again.
There are a lot of reviews on Amazon.com if you want to check them out.

Well, I think the quality is fine... but mostly what I do with it is post clips on Google video so that our family far away can see what DS is up to. I do know that the clips are editable, and that you can burn the videos to DVD. I believe my mom burned a few clips to DVD to show my grandma last January, since she had a DVD player but no computer for viewing, and I think that worked well. It also comes with cables so that you can view the videos on TV direct from the camcorder, but we've never done that. Sorry that I'm not much help- I guess this is why we never had a big camera, since we don't do a lot with our videos!

I got one a few months back. It is good for little video clips to email, etc. I do like how compact it is. The quality of images are not bad at all. Hope that helps.
