View Full Version : Which of the Barefoot Contessa's books?

Ina's stuff is too rich for me but I have a person on the gift list who seems interested in her. She's in her 30's and not terribly experienced cook but not a total novice either. From those of you who've used them, which is the best book? I think she wants to do some entertaining (casual) and also some home cooking for 3 adults. She's Asian and is trying to branch out from lots of stir fries etc. Thanks! valerie

There was a similar discussion not too long ago....here is a link to it!
(BTW: I love all of hers in a different way, so you won't go wrong with any of them in my opinion!)

Family Style is my favorite, followed by her original cookbook (The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook)
I agree - you can't REALLY go wrong with any of them!

I really like her original cookbook The Barefoot Contessa. But, like the others I find recipes in each cookbook that I really love.

I like "barefoot contessa parties" and have her latest "barefoot contessa at home". I tried most of the recipes in these books with satisfactory, but couldn't really connect with "Barefoot contessa in Paris" though.

I don't really use Barefoot in Paris....Family Style gets the most use. I would agree you probably won't go wrong with any, but maybe stay away from Paris for someone new to the books.

Family Style is also my favorite. There is a good variety of recipes in that one.

I love barefoot in paris, but that and the parties book use lots of cream, and some unfamiliar techniques-- for a stir-fry type cook, sounds wrong. The family style is probably the best intro.

Thanks everyone, I picked up a copy of Family Style at costco yersterday afternoon. I may need to look thru it before wrapping it up!
Nice gift! (I love Family Style also.) Your friend will enjoy it.
